Courteney Cox-Arquette Dishes on Coco's Celebrity Crush

Bruce Glikas/FilmMagic

As a celebrity mom, Courteney Cox-Arquette isn’t afraid to call in a favor or two on behalf of daughter Coco Riley, 5. The best laid plans often go awry, however — which Courteney recently learned after arranging for actor Zac Efron to make a surprise visit to their California home.

“Coco gets these crushes on these young guys, these huge crushes,” the 45-year-old Cougar Town actress explained during a recent visit to The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien. “She just loves him.” Together with husband David Arquette, Courteney had the video camera rolling when Zac finally arrived — but Coco’s response was not what the couple had been hoping for!

“We told her to close her eyes, and then ‘Open them now! Open them now!’ And then there he is. She freaked out, just totally traumatized, and ran into her room.”

Courteney’s own reaction was surprising as well, and it soon became apparent that mother and daughter have much in common! “I looked at Zac, and I was like, he’s hot,” she concedes. “I was so attracted to him but I went into [Coco's] room and I wanted to console her.”

When Coco made it apparent that she would not leave her room, Courteney joked that it wasn’t exactly unwelcome news. “I didn’t need the competition,” she kidded, “and I let her stay in there. [Zac] didn’t stay that long, just like, 8 hours.”

Courteney’s new show Cougar Town airs Wednesdays at 9:30 p.m. on ABC.

Little Coco has good taste because Zac Efron is hot! My two-year-old daughter made me laugh a couple of weeks ago when one of my husband’s co-workers came by to look at a truck we’re selling. This guy was very cute and when my daughter saw him, she smiled coyly and dragged her little Dora suitcase over in an effort to impress him with her fancy new bag. She was either trying to impress him or leave with him, who knows. :)

Funny story, and nice effort on the part of the folks, but: what did they expect to happen? Any of them? I mean, Zac Efron was brought in to entertain a FIVE year old crush?! :O He must be a really nice guy to go to all that trouble. As for Courtney and David, I mean, huh? Did they want her to sit on his lap or something? I think this is all very hilarious.

LOL…too funny!! I am sure they thought she would just squeal and be so excited to meet Zac! Instead, she was overwhelmed and took off to her room, lol. They meant well :-)

Oh man this cracks me up. It reminds me of my sister just starting 1st grade and we were walking with our mom and we walked by a cute boy who was in her class and he was with his dad. After we were out of earshot, my sister said “His DAD is a hunk!” So funny! I would totally want to have a visit from Zac Efron to my house. My 7 daughter would probably want to practice some of the moves that she has memorized from the movie with him!

lol. That’s funny! I bet Coco is a handful!

a little over the outlandish side if you ask me. Maybe she’ll expect mommy and daddy to give in to all of her wishes from here on out.

Haha! I can’t wait to see if my own little girl will be like that when she has her first crush! My son is a ladies man already, he apparently has lots of girlfriends according to his teachers!!

The story was weird rather than funny. I think Courtney is trying a bit too hard to promote her “cougar” image.

Lol! My daughter, who’s 6, has a huge crush on Mitchel Musso (Oliver from Hannah Montana) and she had everything planned out that she was going to say if she ever met him. Well we ended up meeting him at one of his concerts and she just lost it and started bawling. The only thing she remembered to say to him was “I’m crying because you’re Mitchel Musso” lol

- missy on

Mira, I agree with you. Cougartown was funny but for Courtney to say she was attracted to Zac (yeah, the kid is smokin’ but still…..) but still went to console her daughter. But it must be nice to have that kind of pull to surprise your child like that. :o )

Coco looks nothing like Courtney. She looks totally, 100% like the Arquette family. Look at all that blonde hair too.

- Lily on

Man, CBB, can you give Courtney a message to send him to my house? LOL! My daughter, 6, is a MASSIVE Zac fan. She knows every song and almost every dance from those movies. She would FREAK OUT if she ever actually met him!

(Can’t say I blame her-that guy is smoking hot!)

Zac seems to have some sort of magical power over us “older” ladies. His co-star Melora Hardin in “17 Again” had a funny story about him too. Apparently they hit it off on-set and one day he made a joking comment, something about “…if you were younger…” and she was like “bring it on, I don’t need to be younger”!! Hilarious! Vanessa must have a laugh when they go out in public together and the moms swoon over her 21-year-old boyfriend.

I took my nieces and nephews and some of their friends to meet Jason Earles (Jackson from Hannah Montana) at a meet and greet this past June. The four girls I had with me were gushing the entire time we were in line, planning out what they were going to ask him. The pictures are so funny because the younger girls (both 7) just kind of nervously stood by the table. The older girls are leaning over as far as they possibly could so their faces could touch his. They were 10.

This story makes me think of Leslie Mann’s one where she had Zac call her little girl and wish her a happy birthday during her sleepover and all the little girls are shrieking. They showed the video when Leslie was on Ellen’s show, it was hysterical.

- Sarah on

Oh what stars won’t do to entertain their children. . .

- Karm on

How completely ridiculous, not to mention inappropriate…oh but these people what their children to have a normal upbringing…yeah right.

- Edwina46 on

Come on people! You can’t tell me that you wouldn’t do the same for your child if you had the means and ability. Any parent would! I guess you guys don’t ever give your children birthday parties either because that would be too outlandish and over the top. Whatever.

- joybell on

I agree with joybell. If I could have done something like this for my girls when they were younger I would have. Shoot right now if my youngeest could meet Rupert Grint she would freek and she’s 24.

- Jacki on

joybell- I agree! I also fail to see how what Courtney and her husband did was inapproprite? I mean, since when is meeting a movie star inapproprite?

- CelebBabyLover on

Jacki – I’d freak if I could meet Rupert Grint too! And I’m 26, and married! Your daughter has good taste ;-)
