My husband and I currently have a gestational surrogate carrying twin girls for us (they are due in 2 weeks). When a gestational surrogate is used, it is typically the mom’s egg and dad’s sperm. However a donor’s egg/sperm can also be used. The term “gestational” means simply carrying the embryo(s) to term with no genetic relation to that embryo(s). A traditional surrogate is one who uses their own eggs with either a donor or the intended father’s sperm.

(I had the same question about surrogacy too though, when it came to SJP and her twins..I wondered if they were from her eggs or if someone donated eggs for surrogacy).
