Courteney Cox-Arquette on the Pros – and Cons! – of Public Life

Bruce Glikas/FilmMagic

Despite her ability to maintain a low-key lifestyle amidst the glitz and glamour of Hollywood, Courteney Cox-Arquette is not one to shield her everyday struggles from the public.

“So the whole world knows I had miscarriages,” she reveals to the Los Angeles Times. “And yes, I’ve done in vitro however many times — three times. Yes, I’ve said that [my husband] David [Arquette] and I go to therapy.” Noting that “nothing’s too precious for me,” the 45-year old actress admits that although she often wishes she could keep more personal information to herself, it’s just not in her nature.

That said, while her frankness has become expected in interviews, Courteney laughs that some aspects of her life are better left unreported! “Recently my daughter [Coco Riley] had lice. Wasn’t fun. Became a big outbreak in the house,” she says. Unfortunately, when Courteney stopped off to stock up on supplies to fight the lice, prying paparazzi were in hot pursuit.

“So I stayed in the car, and I called up my assistant, and I said, ‘Dude, I can’t get out of the car.’”

The effects motherhood have had on Courteney reach far beyond what she could have ever imagined. After welcoming Coco, now 5, the protective mama jokes she has a newfound sympathy for all living things — including the flora and fauna in front of her house! The actress still hasn’t landscaped her yard because she can’t stand to kill the plants already growing there.

“I can’t tell you how much time I think about taking up the plants that don’t really work anymore,” she explains.

“Something has completely changed in me. I’m sure it’s after Coco — I’m sure. I have a life to take care of. But whoa, did I turn into a freak!”

Courteney’s new show, Cougar Town, premieres September 23rd at 9:30 p.m. on ABC.

My daughter recently had lice too!! I was so embarrased at first, I didnt want anybody to know…when I went to the pharmacy to buy a lice treatment, I whispered to the pharmacist and she goes ‘honey, dont be embarrased I get parents in here to buy lice treatments by the dozens, its part of childhood’ lol

Coco is so cute, looks just like her daddy I think!

I wish we got to see more pictures of Coco on this site. She looks a lot different then she does in that picture now.

Courtney seems very down to earth and funny. Coco is adorable. Lice happens to lot of kids, but it’s still the kind of thing most people do not want to admit heheh.

Haha I can’t stand to kill plants, either.

I used to be a school nurse in some schools where some kids had head lice almost all the time. Some of the teachers would completely freak out (all the time) and some of them just took it in stride. I find it amusing and refreshing that Courteney would admit so openly that her daughter had it, because, after all, it can happen to anyone! good for her!

Lice is supposed to be such a pain to get rid of. Luckily I never had it [knocks on wood]. But yes it can happen to anybody.

I had lice in fifth grade. We didn’t tell anyone. I felt like I was going to be cast out from society. It’s like this humiliating secret. This is actually the first time I admitted to anyone I once had lice, ha!

I’m in Australia and my daughter had terrible lice, which I treated of course, but she kept getting it from the other kids at school. B/c if just one parent is lazy, then the other kids keep getting infected! It’s good to know that celebs have the same problem.LOL

i had lice as a kid. it’s really got nothing to do with how clean you are so it’s nothing to be embarrassed about. they’re annoying, sure, especially because i have a lot of thick hair. but yeah loads of kids get them.

I’ve never had lice, but, when I was in Elementary school, the teachers passed out leaflets with information on lice at least once a year. The funny thing is, I think they were more worried and conerned about it than us students were! :)
