Mary-Louise Parker: My Kids Aren't Going Into the 'Biz'

As a pot-dealing mom on Weeds, Mary-Louise Parker‘s character is faced with a variety of ethical dilemmas. But luckily for Mary-Louise’s children, off-screen, the mom of two knows right from wrong.
“My character’s the worst parent, but I guess she’s doing the best she can with what she has,” Mary-Louise tells new magazine Observer Playground.
“It’s not an example to follow, I can say that much.”
Single mom to William Atticus, 5 ½, with ex Billy Crudup and Caroline ‘Ash’ Aberash, 3, adopted in 2007, Mary-Louise knows her priorities rest with family first, before work and even dating.
“Even though I would love to have dinner with this person or this person, it’s not as important to me as putting my kids to bed,” she says.
Though linked with actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan earlier this year, the actress is now single, and focused on her children first.
Though Mary-Louise began her acting career as a teen, she hopes her children won’t follow in her footsteps — at least for now.
“They aren’t going into any ‘biz’ while they’re children,” she says. “Show business is still a business and those children are still working, essentially. I believe in working, but not working when you’re a child!”
