Diaper Diva Lotus Bag: Do I Tell Her It's A Diaper Bag?

09/10/2009 at 10:00 AM ET

As I stood in line to buy a salad, the woman behind me said, ‘I just LOVE your bag!”

For a minute I thought I should just thank her and keep its goopy contents to myself, but my 15-month-old son Egan sitting on my hip, was a dead giveaway. I told her it’s a diaper bag and she couldn’t believe it.

The Diaper Diva Lotus Bag ($115) comes from Diaper Dude, the California-based company that specializes in fantastic diaper bags and accessories for men. This bag shows they’ve got some great products for women, too!The Lotus bag comes in a bright, happy paisley print with bright-orange, faux-leather trim. While the fabric is a bit plastic-y and stiff, it’s exceptionally easy to clean. The orange, nylon lining makes it easy to see what’s inside. The inside has two bottle pockets, one zippered pocket and four velcro pouches to keep everything organized. A large, outside pocket holds an adequate and wipeable changing pad and a flap pocket is ideal for depositing keys and my phone.

It comes with an adjustable and removable shoulder strap that’s very stiff at first, but softens up eventually. Unfortunately the Lotus bag does not come with stroller straps. I guess you could loop the shoulder strap around the handles, but I’m not inclined to use it much. The bag’s handles fit nicely on my shoulder or hang from my elbow.

I like orange because it is happy and gender neutral, but it’s not for everyone. All in all, the Lotus bag is a bright and colorful, practical diaper bag that conceals its true identity nicely.

Mom Said It

"It helps that other moms had said that once they had their babies, they forgot they were ever pregnant. So once my focus became the baby and not the pregnancy, it was a very easy decision."
