Jerry O'Connell Says Rebecca Romijn 'Not Dieting Per Se'

Sam Sharma/Pacific Coast News

When Jerry O’Connell needs a break from his homework — and from life at home with 8-month-old twins Dolly Rebecca Rose and Charlie Tamara Tulip — dad and daughters make a beeline for Eastwick. The girls provide their mom Rebecca Romijn, an actress on the new ABC show, a welcome distraction.

“I got the short straw for not working so I’m going to grad school part-time,” Jerry recently explained to FOX News. “But Rebecca misses the girls a lot when she’s at work, so I bring them around and let them bother her on set.”

In previews for the show Rebecca appears to have reclaimed her pre-baby physique, though Jerry says her efforts were stalled somewhat upon weaning Dolly and Charlie at six months. Still, the 35-year-old actor is first to admit: “I don’t know the particulars.” He adds,

“She looks great, back into the Pilates…But we had a very large lunch today and we had dessert so I don’t think she’s dieting per se.”

While Jerry has no doubt logged plenty of face-time with the girls since becoming a stay-at-home dad, the same cannot be said for their entry to the world! “I was there for the birth but I did not look,” he reveals about the twins’ delivery via c-section. “A friend of mine said ‘Listen, I’ve looked so I’m giving you a piece of advice — I don’t think you should look.’ So I didn’t actually see anything.”

He just irritates me. He seems so rigid and intense…I don’t know, something creepy about him. I loooove Rebecca. I’m happy for her and Jerry, he just weirds me out!

Kind of tacky for reporters to ask him about his wife’s post baby weight loss and diet.

My son was born via Caesarean and my fiance looked over the drapes to see him being lifted out of me and he says it is the most amazing thing he has ever seen, and can’t believe that someone wouldn’t want to see it so I am surprised Jerry didn’t look, its a moment he’ll never get back!

- Chloe on

hmm Jennifer, I have never seen him as intense and rigid. I remember reading they had friends over and suddenly Jerry comes out to the pool in a speedo just to make everyone laugh. I always think he seems funny. I wonder if he is bored right now? He always seems to be giving all kinds of info about his family life lately. But what did he mean he got the short straw and isn’t working?

My husband didn’t look when our daughters were born either. He said he wanted to be there to hold my hand but he didn’t need to see it lol. Some guys just feel that way. He didn’t cut the cord either.

I love seeing photos and hearing tidbits about this little family. :)

Aw, he’s not weird! haha. He seems so in love with his family! I had pictures taken during the birth but didn’t want to look at the time, what I saw in the reflection of the tv was enough, glad I have the pictures now though!

They really do seem like a fairly ‘normal’ couple. I think a lot of people don’t talk about some of the stuff they have, but it’s funny to hear sometimes.

My DH looked during the c-section I ended up with our first child and said “They’ve got your uterus outside of your body!” when they were cleaning it out afterward. As much as he doesn’t want to admit it, I do think it bothered him a little bit to see people digging around inside my body. To contrast, he said while I was pushing out our second (and third) child, “It looked like your butt was going to explode!”. I don’t think he really should have looked with any of the births, but he did. He doesn’t seem too traumatized by it, but he does tell his friends not to look, though.

I’m just amazed that he doesn’t think going to grad school, even part-time, is work. :-)

I don’t get the publicity blitz surrounding this guy. I’m glad they are a happy family, but why is he always speaking for Rebecca? That would drive me NUTS.

Most people don’t want to watch their loved ones being cut open so I understand Jerry not wanting to look. So what he missed the part where his daughters were pulled from his wife’s bloody uterus? Everyday he’s experiencing more beautiful and significant moments in their lives. I didn’t want to videotape any of my children’s births (vaginal or csection) because it would be tramatizing to see what my body had to go through. Like most choices, it’s based on a person’s individual tastes and shouldn’t be mocked, Chloe.

I think much of Jerry’s self-depreciating humor doesn’t translate well into text which is why many people get all annoyed by his comments. I’m not really a fan of either of their work, but they do seem very much in love with each other and their daughters which makes them fun to read about.

- Adeline on

Yes, people, he IS being self-deprecating… no way is he rigid or whatever.

I don’t think I would want to look either! I’m a wimp when it comes to that sort of stuff.

- Terri on

I think Jerry’s sense of humour doesn’t come across right when in text. He seems like a great father and husband.
My husband didn’t want to see our daughter being pulled out of me either. He said he was pretty grossed out just watching the amniotic fluid rush out on to the floor. I imagine he may have passed out if he got to see any more. He was happy holding my hand and making sure I was doing alright.

Skunknuggets- Congrats on being able to have VBACs!

Skunknuggets – your husband cracks me up. I think I laughed more reading your statement then the article LOL.
