Brad Paisley To Sons: Visualize, Then Achieve, Your Dreams

Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic

Brad Paisley has made no secret of just how much sons William ‘Huck’ Huckleberry, 2, and Jasper Warren, 3 months, have inspired his music and when it comes to what will someday inspire the boys, Brad says he hopes they will dream big. “Visualize what you want out of life with all your might,” he tells Readers Digest when asked what advice he plans to give Huck and Jasper. “Close your eyes and build it in your mind.”

“If you want to be an architect, visualize the things you want to build. If you want to be a songwriter, visualize the effect your music will have on the audience. That’s what I do. If you don’t dream about what you want, it will never come true.”

Watching Huck turn “into a little man” is cited by the 36-year-old country crooner as the best part of fatherhood thus far. “He’s obsessed with the heavy equipment we have on the farm,” Brad notes. “I’ve got a mini-bulldozer, and he’s been riding with me since he was three months old.” All the experience has paid off! “Now he can run it because it’s all hand controls, kind of like an Atari game,” Brad proudly reports. And while Huck is hands-on around the barn, dad enjoys being hands-on in the nursery!

“I think the days of men saying they don’t [change diapers] are over. I’d like to see the guy who pulls that off now. No, I’d actually like to beat up the guy who says he pulls that off.”

Brad’s marriage to actress Kimberly Williams-Paisley works because he says the 37-year-old actress is “a real person.” It also helps, he says, that both are byproducts of marriages that have stood the test of time. “When you come from two families in which your parents have strong relationships, it’s less of an option for you to be the first in your bloodline to break up,” he says.

Reiterating earlier statements, Brad goes on to give Kimberly full credit for naming their latest creation.

“Before Kim was pregnant, she came to me and said, ‘I dreamed that we had a little boy and named him Jasper.’ I said, “That’s cool! I don’t know anybody named Jasper.” It works both for a guy 90 years old and a little baby.”

Mariska Hargitay: August Minds His P's and Q's!

Bauer-Griffin

There are some compliments that top all others when you’re a mom, and for Mariska Hargitay hearing what a well-behaved baby boy she has in 3-year-old August Miklos Friedrich takes the cake. “My son made me look really good when two people told me he said ‘Excuse me, would you be so kind…’” the 45-year-old Law & Order: Special Victims Unit star recently recalled for OK!

“Ooh! She said, ‘What have you been teaching him?’ And I went, ‘That.’ He’s very polite, and that makes me very proud. He’s Mr. Please and Thank You. That’s important to me.”

Dad Peter Hermann chimed in to describe August as a “happy kid” — which brought Mariska’s emotions flooding to the surface. Of her husband of nearly five years, she tearfully revealed, “[He] is the most soulful poet that I know, and he makes me very happy.”

Prince Lionheart Stroller Shade: Don't Let the Sun Shine In

When your child’s stroller sun canopy doesn’t cut it in bright sunlight, it may be time to attach a extra sunshade.

Prince Lionheart’s Stroller Shade ($13) — with SPF 50 fabric — reduces the sun’s rays that reach your child by up to 97%.

It will also shield against wind and insects. The mesh fabric provides ventilation.

It pops open quickly and folds down easily — just twist the frame twice to make it smaller and then secure it with the attached red elastic band (it’s compact enough to fit in your stroller basket or diaper bag).

It fits on practically all strollers (even jogging strollers).

Ani DiFranco Grateful For 'Me' Time Before Becoming a Mom

Bill Haber/AP

When she learned that she was expecting a baby, Ani DiFranco feared what motherhood would mean for her music. “I had a little bit of resistance to the idea of taking energy away from my work, and the baby comes along and, lo and behold, that’s exactly what happens,” the 38-year-old songstress concedes in a new interview with the Daily Camera.

Happily, it’s a change that was long overdue. “I did a lot of work with myself over the course of being pregnant and the first few months of being pregnant,” she explains. “It’s nice, the pace of being pregnant; it gives you a long time to not just germinate a baby but germinate the mother that you’re gonna be.”

Noting that being mom to 2 ½-year-old Petah Lucia “takes a lot of patience,” Ani goes on to express how “thrilled” she is that “more and more women [are] becoming mothers later in life.”

“There’s a lot of sacrifice involved. I had 20 years of just working non-stop, so for me to slow down and redirect a lot of that energy feels great right now and it makes me a happy mother, and I wish for a lot of women that they get a lot of ‘me’ time in either before or after [having] kids.”

Fans need not worry about Ani losing her edge, however. Despite all the changes she has undergone in recent years — including marriage to Petah’s father, music producer Mike Napolitano — she reports: “I still feel very much like myself.” Petah gets credit for pulling mom off her “hamster wheel,” however, and Ani notes that “as opposed to doing, I’m just being.”

“You really have to be present and just go with the flow, follow the moment with a kid and I think that’s helping me get back to myself in a way.”

Bringing baby girl on tour has also opened Petah’s eyes to the notion that mom is often considered “public property.” When the two are leaving a venue, there are often fans angling for a moment with Ani; While Ani herself is happy to oblige, Petah is not so generous! “She is my alter ego,” Ani notes.

“She’s like, ‘F– you! F– off! She’s mine now. You’ve had her all night and now she’s finally mine. Go away. This is my mom now.’”

Julie Chen is Ready to Set Up Shop in Los Angeles

Jemal Countess/WireImage

In a few weeks, Julie Chen will be completely grounded — literally! Due October 4th with her first child — a boy — the host of Big Brother and co-host of The Early Show currently splits her time between Los Angeles and New York, respectively, to fulfill her responsibilities; Soon, however, Julie will unpack her bags on the West Coast until baby boy makes his arrival. “I’m going to have to stop flying, I’m not going to have to stop doing Big Brother, hopefully,” she tells Ryan Seacrest.

“If all goes according to plan, we’ll probably have our finale around September 15th, so that gives me two weeks before my due date and I’ve been trying to be very healthy and follow doctor’s orders.”

Gearing up to settle in Los Angeles, Julie recently joined The Early Show via satellite, and admits that the extra early wake-up call — due to the time zone difference — is nothing to scoff at! “Talk about the early wake-up call!” she laughs. “I’m there by two…I have to get there by two so I can look pretty at four!”

Baby boy will be Julie’s first child with husband Leslie Moonves.
