Last Licks of Summer! Frozen Treat Maker Roundup

Hamilton Beach Ice Cream Maker

I have wanted an ice cream maker since I was a kid. Seriously. I know, I know, you can just buy a pint of ice cream at any corner store… but I like a challenge. So you can imagine my glee when I got to take the Hamilton Beach Ice Cream Maker ($30) for a spin (literally) this summer — and found it easy to use.

Just mix together your ingredients — the machine comes with a bunch of recipes in the manual — and 20 to 40 minutes later, the entire family is enjoying delicious, creamy, homemade ice cream. No cranking, no rock salt. Just turn it on, pour in the ingredients, and you’re good to go. Sure, the noise might drown out your dinner music, but it’s worth it!

The biggest convenience is that you can control exactly what goes into your kids’ ice cream. Organic? Easy. Less sugar? No problem. Fresh fruit, maple syrup, nuts … whatever you want to add to keep your ice cream healthier is up to you. And ultimately, it’s cheaper, too. Turns out kid-me was really onto something!

Kendra Wilkinson Opens Up About Baby's Health Scare

Sam Sharma/Pacific Coast News

Like many parents-to-be, Kendra Wilkinson and her husband Hank Baskett were anxiously awaiting the ultrasound that would reveal whether their initial instincts of a baby boy were to be true or if the two would soon be seeking pink.

However, after a trip to the doctor only the day before, the couple were left with a much bigger worry: baby-on-the-way’s heart was showing abnormal beating patterns. “The doctor told us that there were heart problems — not problems, but it was like a skipped beat,” Kendra tells E!. “I was so scared and so was Hank, we were both very nervous.”

As baby’s health immediately became first priority, Kendra admits everything else was suddenly pushed to a back burner. “We didn’t even care about finding out the gender, we cared about finding out the next day if it was healthy,” she shares.

“I just wanted to get there and see that heart beating…and we did. We went there the next day and we were just both very nervous and excited at the same time, but we saw on the ultrasound the perfectly normal heart and that’s all we cared about.”

Once the health scare passed, doctors confirmed Kendra’s suspicions that she was indeed expecting a boy! “We cried and then all of a sudden…a penis! That was like the extra, to top everything off,” she laughs.

Baby boy — to be named Hank Baskett IV — is due on Christmas.

Ingo Rademacher on Marriage: Maybe, Baby

Jill Johnson/JPI

Labels are interchangeable in the home General Hospital star Ingo Rademacher shares with partner Ehiku and the couple’s 13-month-old son Peanut Kai. “I call Ehiku wife, sometimes fiancée, sometimes girlfriend, sometimes baby mama,” Ingo said with a laugh during a recent interview with Soap Opera Digest. “We haven’t gotten married yet, but we’ll get around to it sometime.”

The couple, for now, are content to explore the world with their son in tow. “He travels great,” Ingo notes.

“Kai has been traveling for a long time; He’s been to Hawaii, like, five times already and Germany once.”

Air travel is about to become more complicated for the couple, however. “He just started walking and he’s pretty much only walking now,” Ingo, 38, explains, “so we have to see if we can keep him on our laps.”

Katherine Heigl Hosts Ellen Pompeo's Baby Shower

Stefan/INF

Mom-to-be Ellen Pompeo was joined by 25 friends, including Kate Walsh, Sandra Oh and Rebecca Gayheart, for a baby shower held Saturday afternoon at Katherine Heigl‘s home in the Los Feliz section of Los Angeles.

Ellen and her husband Chris Ivery are expecting a baby daughter in October.

As an eyewitness told PEOPLE, “Ellen looked gorgeous in a white summer dress with her hair in a braided up-do. She seemed very excited to celebrate with her girlfriends.”

The catered, outdoor baby bash was held in the backyard. Umbrellas shielded guests from the heat — L.A. temps reached 104 degrees Saturday — and pink flower arrangements and candles accented the tables.

Guests brought gifts wrapped in girly pink and yellow colors. Many of the gifts – which included a Sleep Sheep toy mobile, Sleepy Safari stacking toys, organic hooded towels and a Kiddopotamus organic swaddle wrap – came from the Juvenile Shop in Sherman Oaks, where Ellen is registered.

Monica Bellucci is Home Base for Deva

Venturelli/WireImage

The nomadic existence of an actor isn’t always conducive to family life, but Monica Bellucci feels that life is what you make it. “The most important thing with children is to give them your time,” she tells the Daily Mail. “Actually, that’s all that matters.” To that end, while the 44-year-old actress and her daughter Deva — turning five next month — are currently living out of a New York City hotel, Monica concedes that their globetrotting days are coming to a close. “In a year, Deva’s going to have to go to school and I’m going to have to decide where we base ourselves,” she notes.

“She’s very easy. She travels so much that she can fall asleep in any bed — she’s like a gypsy baby. Right now, her base is her mother and her father, even though the scenery changes.”

As for just where the family-of-three — which includes Monica’s husband Vincent Cassel — will eventually settle down, it remains to be seen. “Truly, I am a woman of the last minute,” Monica says. “When I was pregnant I organized three different hospitals because I couldn’t decide where I wanted to have my baby: London, Rome or Paris. In the end, I decided to go to Rome, arrived on the Monday and gave birth on the Saturday.”

The timing was fortuitous in more ways than one. “Deva arrived at a perfect moment for me,” Monica says. “I have done so many things in my life, been to so many places, had some great times — but when she came I was ready to give her everything.”

“I am at a stage in my life where if I don’t go out, I don’t feel I’m missing something. I get bored surrounded by people smoking cigarettes, drinking alcohol… And I’m not so interested now in going to premieres, or being photographed on the red carpet. I want to be with her.”

From the sound of things, Monica doesn’t have the energy for a night out on the town anyway! “Kids steal your sleep,” she notes. “I didn’t sleep for two years…I was breastfeeding for nine months.” She adds,

“But I was so happy to become a mother, I don’t mind any of the sacrifices. They are the ways in which you learn to be a mother.”
