The birth of my son brought out in me a sudden zeal to become an amateur photographer. But hundreds (upon hundreds!) of snapshots later, I never got any closer to creating that album of Travis’s first year – until I got some help from Shutterfly’s Photo Book system (prices begin at $12.99 for a 5×7 size, 20-page book).
After picking out the album size (there are five to choose from) and cover material, Shutterfly’s Storyboard tool helped me drag and drop my uploaded photos onto each page and added text underneath each picture to tell a story. Then the real fun begins. You can customize everything from the photo book material and color, the photo border to the background style for each page. With hundreds of styles and colors to choose, any parent is bound to find a style to suit their taste.
And while it took some time to sift through the many choices — should I go with circles or country snowfall as a background? — it was a fun process. If I were to change anything, I would go with matte paper stock (but glossy stock is the pre-offered choice). But that’s a minor detail that did nothing to diminish the “wow” factor when the book arrived. Everyone from my husband to our families and friends (and even Travis himself!) loved thumbing through the photos. Sure, memories can live forever — but bound between the pages of a handsome photo book, our memories of Travis, year one, are now a cherished keepsake.
