Caught Caring: The Surfrider Foundation and LEGOLAND
![]() |
Some familiar CBB faces — both young and old — recently teamed up with LEGOLAND California Resort in an effort to benefit the Surfrider Foundation. Now through September 8, visitors to the Carlsbad-based theme park can view ocean-themed Lego mosaics created by the likes of Heidi Klum, Tony Hawk, Peter Facinelli, Brooke Shields and more; What’s more, many of the celebs were aided by their children in designing the one-of-a-kind creations. The Celebrity Mosaic Project not only benefits the Surfrider Foundation, but also helps mark the first birthday of LEGOLAND’s Sea Life Aquarium.
Heidi — soon-to-be a mom-of-four — created a mermaid mosaic, while dad-of-three Peter opted to make a tropical fish with his LEGOS. Perhaps not surprisingly, Tony’s blue sea creature (see below) is depicted on — what else! – a skateboard. The mosaic was a team effort, however; Tony recently tweeted,
“Check out the LEGO mosaic that my son Spence and I made for charity. He created the fish, I did the skateboard.”
Organizers are hoping that the mosaics — which are available for auction — will ultimately serve as a creative way of educating the public about our fragile ocean and marine environments. All proceeds from the auction will be donated to the Surfrider Foundation, an international non-profit organization dedicated to the protection and preservation of oceans, waves and beaches for 25 years. The group has taken part in over 600 beach clean-ups and initiated more than 200 community outreach programs all the while logging more than 140,000 volunteer hours since its inception.

In addition to 10-year-old Spencer, Tony is dad to Riley, 16, Keegan, 8, and Kadence, 13 months.
