Rebecca Romijn Recruits Jerry O'Connell As Mr. Mom

Sam Sharma/Pacific Coast News

As Rebecca Romijn plays witch by day — she is currently promoting her new fall series, Eastwick — and mother by night, her husband Jerry O’Connell has happily stepped up to the plate in his own new role: Mr. Mom.

With the couple welcoming their fraternal twin daughters Charlie Tamara Tulip and Dolly Rebecca Rose seven months ago, and the actress filming the pilot shortly after their birth, the girls were brought along for the ride. “They were with me every second of the day,” Rebecca reveals. “I was still nursing and I was on a real strict schedule with them.”

Now prepared to begin regular filming on her series, Rebecca says that Jerry has taken a hiatus from his own career to take care of the girls. “Now that we’ve gone back to work, Jerry has taken off” the last three weeks, she says. “So he can be the parent [on] diaper duty!”

For Jerry, the past few days of quality time with his daughters have not been well spent – given that the girls are in full teething mode. “They’re both in pain,” says their mother. “Their teeth are about to cut through.”

As the twins work on their latest milestone, the playful mama can’t help but laugh when prompted about old family teething remedies.

“Whiskey and brown sugar, right? Just like grandma used to do!”

Joking aside, the first-time mama admits she has turned to her own mother for parenting advice, as she recalls a sudden moment of truth when she was eight months pregnant with the girls. After assembling their cradles and observing the “plush and soft” bedding, a very “uncomfortable” Rebecca envisioned herself catching a quick nap in the beds!

“I was setting it all up and thought, ‘Oh, that looks so cozy. I want to crawl in there myself.’ My mom said, ‘Get ready. You’re about to have a lot of other mother moments like that.’”

Why is Rebecca CONSTANTLY talking about breastfeeding her babies? It seems so strange to me. In every single interview (short or long) that I’ve read with her in it, she references nursing her children at least once. Perhaps some things should reamin private…Or at least be given a rest.

It’s good for her to talk about it, it helps to normalize nursing.

Patrice, I think that because she has twins it might have been quite the daunting task to nurse them both. Many of my friends with twins resort to supplementing because it’s such an arduous task. Maybe she’s proud that she was able to nurse them both for as long as she did.

The term “Mr. Mom” really bugs me, it implies it’s the mother’s responsibility to care for the child and it’s somehow emasculating for a man to be with his own children.

Patrice, it’s good that’s she is talking about it. Not only does it normalize nursing, but it really breaks the myth that you can’t possibly make enough milk for 2 babies.

Nice interview, nothing negative about it. Sounds like she and Jerry are enjoying being parents.

I talk about my experiences as a new mother all the time, including nursing! She must be proud of herself, nothing wrong with that:)

How come when dads do something they are SUPPOSED to do (i.e., care for their kids) they are called Mr. Mom?

- sdfsd on

sdfsd- I think it’s just a term of endearment. :)

Ladies, all I’m saying is that complete stranfgers DON’T CARE about that. I mean, maybe mother to mother, but I certainly am not interested when my friends who are mom’s want to go on and on about their breasts. Maybe my tune will change once I’m a mom, but I mean, does she really think that interviewers want to discuss this? I know I wouldn’t. No one is at all suggesting that nursing is abnormal, but for non-new baby focued mommies, it is QUITE un-interesting.

Patrice, why do you visit this site? It is specifically about the new-mother experience, and nursing is a huge part of that. I imagine it is even more of a challenge with twins. Grow up, and revisit this site again when your sensitivity to benign subjects like nursing no longer needs to be shielded.
