Dustin Pedroia Awaiting a Baby, Reveals Wife's Premature Labor

Mitchell Layton/Getty

Premature labor can be terrifying, for both parents-to-be. Boston Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia knows that better than anybody, having missed last Monday’s game against the Oakland A’s to be by wife Kelli‘s side after she began laboring at seven months pregnant. “It seems like everything’s OK,” Dustin revealed Wednesday. “I had to be there last night, obviously. It’s been tough.” The 25-year-old 2008 American League MVP adds,

“But she’ll be all right. She’s good. She’s a lot more together than I am, I can tell you that.”

Dustin feels particularly powerless over what has transpired. Noting that baby-on-the-way is the couple’s first child, he admits that he’s “learning on the fly.” Kelli’s premature labor “kind of happened real fast,” he shared. “I’m just glad she’s OK and the baby seems to be OK so we’ll wait and see. She’s probably going to be [in the hospital] a while, but we’ll get through it.”

“They’re giving her all this medicine, they gave her some shots to help the baby out so we’re trying to keep him in there for as long as possible. He probably wants a Red Bull or something.”

Red Sox manager Terry Francona said that there was never a question of whether Dustin would play. “He needed to be with Kelli, and she needed him,” Terry said. Once it became evident that Dustin was no longer needed at the hospital, however, Kelli was the first to encourage him to rejoin his team. Joking that he always does what he’s told, Dustin revealed that after their Tuesday game against the A’s he did return to his wife’s side. “It’s good I’m small,” he noted. “I slept in some little bed [at the hospital]. Hopefully she’ll be all right.”

Exclusive! Taylor Hanson Shares a Family Portrait

While four kids may sound like a handful to many, for Taylor Hanson, the arrival of his newest child, son Viggo Moriah, didn’t send his stress level over the top. “After two kids, you’re outnumbered,” he tells Celebrity Baby Blog with a laugh. “So once you cross having three, having four is not such a big deal.” Viggo’s digging the big family, too. “He’s so interested in what everyone is doing around him,” says Taylor. “He loves to be in the middle of the action and doesn’t want to miss a thing.”

There’s no shortage of action for Taylor, 26, wife Natalie, 25, and their brood (left to right: Penelope Anne, 4, Viggo, 7 months, River Samuel, 2 ½, and Jordan Ezra, 6 ½). “I think it’s pretty much ‘the more the merrier’ for them at this point,” jokes the proud dad, whose bandmate brothers Isaac and Zac have families of their own as well.

When Viggo arrived back in December, each of his siblings welcomed him in their own way. The eldest, Ezra, happily took the new addition in stride. “He’s always been really sweet with other kids and babies,” says Taylor. “My wife jokingly calls it the Hanson gene.” Big sis Penelope, “immediately wanted to hold him and said to Natalie, ‘Oh, Mommy, if you need any help, I can get Viggo dressed!’ It just clicked for her.” And the former baby of the family, River, “was a little indifferent when he first met Viggo,” says Taylor with a laugh (adding that River pronounced his brother’s name “Biggo“). “He appreciates that he’s got another brother, but he’s kind of busy right now. He’s like, that’s great! I’m gonna go play with my Legos.”

As for resemblance to mom and dad, Taylor reports that most people say he looks like Natalie more than any of their other kids, but Viggo, “has these fat little cheeks that are just like I had when I was a baby.”

Now, as dad gets back to work — Hanson will be back on tour in September to promote a new EP and have a new full-length album out in the spring — he says nothing compares to life at home with his wife and kids. Years ago, “I never saw myself having this big family at a young age,” says Taylor. “But I can’t imagine anything else now. It’s just the greatest.”

Karolína Kurková and Fiancé Reveal Baby is a Boy

Dave Allocca/Startraks

It is shaping up to be quite a year for expectant mom Karolína Kurková.

“I’m definitely very excited,” the 25-year-old model told OK! at the Nelson Mandela Foundation Gala at Grand Central in New York City on Wednesday.

“This is my first pregnancy, my first child, my first engagement. I’m just enjoying it more than anything.”

Her enthusiasm was matched by fiancé Archie Drury, who revealed that their baby-on-the-way is a boy! “We’re thrilled,” he said. “We couldn’t be happier.” Karolína added,

“I always wanted to have kids and I love children, but being pregnant, the whole experience of having a baby inside of you that’s growing. I start feeling the kicks now and feel the baby, it’s just the most amazing thing. I just can’t explain.”

Baby boy is using those kicks to make known his preferences for a name!

“It’s really funny,” Karolína says. “I think he might have decided his name — the baby, not us…I don’t want to say it, but he knows his name because the baby responds when I talk about that name.”

That said, if she needs a third party to bounce ideas off of Karolína will have a captive audience in fellow Victoria’s Secret models Heidi Klum, Gisele Bündchen and Adriana Lima. “It’s like a baby moment,” she notes before joking, “It’s almost like the trend right now.” The moms-to-be have all been in touch with one another to offer congratulations, and Karolína says that their bumps send “a nice message for the fashion industry.”

“I think it’s awesome…A nice thing, showing that we are real women and we are normal and healthy and that’s why we can get pregnant…That we really take care of ourselves and our body. And we’re growing up. We’re not 17 or 18. We’re becoming women and becoming moms.”

It’s a transition Archie says he can’t wait to witness. “She’s going to be amazing,” he predicts. “I mean incredible. I get emotional when I think about her being a mom.”

Mariska Hargitay: 'Having a Child Changes Everything'

Courtesy Redbook

The ability of a baby to heal the childhood wounds of his or her parents is a phenomenon that Mariska Hargitay knows all too well. Having lost her mom — actress Jayne Mansfield — in a car accident while still a toddler, Mariska is now mom to a toddler herself, 3-year-old August Miklos Friedrich. “Becoming a parent erased many of my negative childhood feelings and filled them with something new,” she tells the August issue of Redbook.

Many of those feelings were recently dredged up again, however. In January, the 45-year-old actress learned that she was suffering from a collapsed lung, and in March following surgery, her lung collapsed again. “I just thought, ‘Please make me better, please make me better,’” she recalls. “I got really scared that maybe something else was wrong.”

“All those old fears about my mom and my grandfather [who also died at an early age] came shooting up. Having a child changes everything. All of a sudden you have so much to lose, so much to live for. Sometimes things in life happen that allow us to understand our priorities very clearly. Ultimately you can see those as gifts.”

In fact, Mariska says she feels “like the luckiest person in the world” after all she’s been through. “I think you learn to feel grateful when you are exposed at such a young age to the fact that bad things can happen,” she explains. Like most moms, however, Mariska admits that she fears failure — “all the time.”

“It’s why being a mother is so loaded. A friend said to me recently, ‘You’re a really great mother,’ and I said ‘What?’ I feel like I’ve been preparing all my life, but I want to do all of it right.”

Although she has since returned to the set of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, where she sustained her injury, Mariska has definite ideas about what she would do with a year off. First and foremost would be more time with the Joyful Heart Foundation, which she founded to provide support for women who have been sexually assaulted. Then, she says, it would be time for some rest and relaxation with the people who matter to her most. “I’d go to Italy and take cooking classes, swim with my son,” she reveals. “I’d eat, see the countryside, and be with my husband (actor and writer Peter Hermann) and kid the whole time.”

Anna Friel Tells Working Moms to 'Keep Going, Keep Looking Forward'

Michael Tran/FilmMagic

Working motherhood isn’t what it used to be, Anna Friel, 33, notes in a new interview with Closer magazine. “I think it’s very different nowadays,” she opines. “Before, a woman could take two years off — a year for her pregnancy and then the first year, but I don’t think that’s possible for women in show business or in any industry any more.” Her own return to the workforce was fraught with worry, and her advice for other new moms is to “keep going — keep looking forward.”

“If you stop, you’re like, ‘Oh God, it’s too overwhelming.’ And believe me, I’ve had my fair share of those moments.”

One came while filming Goal! shortly after the 2005 birth of daughter Gracie Ellen Mary, 4, when an “over-tired” Anna went a full week without sleep. “The ground was moving and I felt I was going to faint,” she shares. “If you can get through that, you can get through anything.”

“You want to be there for your child at night – and I was still breastfeeding, but then I’d get to the point where I couldn’t sleep when I did get to bed. It went on and on. Eventually, a doctor gave me a sleeping tablet and I slept for a weekend.”

Gracie is Anna’s daughter with partner David Thewlis.
