Julie Bowen On Riding Out the Terrible Twos

Oliver McLanahan Phillips, 2, is quite the opportunist! So said his mom, actress Julie Bowen (pictured left with Busy Philipps), during a chat with Celebrity Baby Blog at the launch party for The Little Seed‘s all new Private Label, eco-friendly children’s clothing line.

Oliver — whom Julie describes as “smart and conniving and willful” — is “not psyched” about his twin baby brothers John and Gus, 10 weeks, and he makes his feelings known at the worst possible time.

“He waits until I’m double breastfeeding,” she shares, “and then he throws crap across the room! I can’t stop him because what am I going to do? Dump the twins? Throw one to the ground? It’s fine. This will all be over soon enough.”

When asked what her biggest family accomplishment is of late, Julie jokingly replied that she was simply pleased that her marriage to husband Scott Phillips is still intact and the boys are all breathing.

“That’s about as much as I can hope for,” she kidded.

Having three children under two is not for the faint of heart, and Julie — who co-hosted Thursday’s event — expressed gratitude that she is able to have full-time help. Even with a nanny, however, breastfeeding in tandem has seen her waking every four hours to feed. “Kids need the boobs,” she notes, “and the kids need attention and love.”

Having put “everything on hold” between the twins’ birth in May and her return to work next month on the new show Modern Family, Julie admits that she’s ready for a break!

“I can’t wait to not be in my house and have people ask me if I want regular or decaf, and ‘Can I bring you a breakfast burrito?’ ‘Bring it here. I’m not gonna even stand-up.’”

The 40-year-old actress shot the pilot in the latter stages of her pregnancy with John and Gus, and shortly thereafter learned that the show would air on ABC this fall — making for a very eventful delivery! “Unlike with my first son where I was on set at Boston Legal when I went into labor, [with] the twins I induced,” she explains. “But I still had an exciting day because it was while I was literally pushing, the phone rang and that’s when I found out my show got picked up — in labor, pushing.” And that’s not all! She adds,

“I [also] found out my house got sold. My house was for sale, so it was a good day.”

‘Doing it all’ isn’t something Julie is striving for, however. The best advice she ever received was from a doctor, who – shortly after Julie learned she was expecting twins — advised her to “give 75%” — and no more.

“I was like, ‘Wow!’ That actually was really helpful. It gave me permission to not be on all the time because you can kill yourself having three kids that are two and under, trying to do everything. I can’t do it. I can’t do it!”

Although she is “much lower on the totem pole” than she used to be, Julie adds, “you do still have to take care of yourself.”

Minnie Driver Calls Henry Her 'Greatest Love Affair'

 alt= Mike/Fame

Nothing ventured, nothing gained! During a recent appearance on The View, Minnie Driver recalled her week-long labor with Henry Story, 10 months. “He had such a big head,” the 39-year-old actress laughed. “It started, and then it stopped…he would begin to arrive, and then it would stop; It was completely insane.” At the end of her “longest journey ever,” however, the payoff was huge. “Yes, I would do it again,” she said. “It’s the greatest love affair of my life, with this baby.”

Henry was a “beautiful, unplanned” surprise, Minnie revealed, and although she is no longer involved with his father she harbors no regrets.

“I’m a single mom, [but] his dad is amazing and in his life. I don’t feel alone. Babies attract love…They attract people who love them.”

Minnie again offered scant details on the identity of Henry’s father, however, and defended on her decision. “My celebrity is not his celebrity and I don’t think you should have the attention dumped on an unwilling bystander,” she explained. “It’s not his [career] to have the paparazzi and [other] people in his business; I chose to do this, not him.” By staying mum, she said she hopes to protect both father and son.

Someone else who has become very important in Henry’s young life is Minnie’s dog Bubba, who took an instant liking to the newest member of the household.

“The dog loves him. The dog thinks it’s his baby. They have a relationship that’s based on Cheerios; Bubba very gently eats the Cheerios out of Henry’s hand.”

It appears as though Henry has fans everywhere he goes! Minnie went on to reveal that while shooting Betty Anne Waters in Detroit, even the Teamsters working on the set were smitten. “They loved Henry,” she said. “They made him a local Teamsters jacket.” She recalled,

“I’m still breastfeeding him, and it would be time to nurse and you’d hear them over the walkie-talkies [in male voice]: ‘Yo, we got Minnie here, and the baby’s gotta breastfeed.’ You’d hear it crackling over the set. It was really funny.”

Betty Anne Waters hits theaters later this year.

Candace Parker: Return to Basketball is Good for Mom and Baby

David Sherman/NBAE/Getty

Many moms can relate to pumping their breastmilk during the workday, whether it’s in their car, their office or a bathroom stall. For WNBA star Candace Parker– whose office is the Staples Center, home of the LA Sparks – it means pumping in the locker room after warm-ups, and before the game. “This is something I think I can keep doing for Lailaa,” Candace, 23, tells Newsday of her commitment to breastfeeding.

Although her return to action was remarkably quick — daughter Lailaa Nicole was born just 10 weeks ago — Candace feels that it’s in the best interest for all involved.

“I think you can still be a great mom and do what you want to do. I think following my passion is good for me and good for my daughter.”

Her return was made easier by regular workouts up until the very end of her pregnancy and supportive teammates, five of whom are moms themselves. It hasn’t been easy, however. Lailaa is still frequently waking during the night, and as any mom knows, returning a body to pre-baby form is never easy. “My core is not as tight and my legs are coming back but are not under me 100 percent,” she notes. Ever the optimist, though, Candace adds, “every day I am getting stronger.”

Touted as the female Michael Jordan when she entered the WNBA in 2008 for her ability to attract younger basketball fans, Candace is now feeling support from a different generation of fans entirely — moms! ”I feel that people are rooting for me,” she says. “I think they want me to succeed.”

“I never wanted to sacrifice my career for my family or family for my career. I think there are a lot of mothers out there who have the same dreams and I would encourage them to follow them.”

Lailaa is Candace’s daughter with husband Shelden Williams of the Minnesota Timberwolves.
