Gabrielle Reece Digs Deep, Finds More to Give Daughters

Price/Ertischek/Splash News Online

The inner reserves of love and patience that parents find they have with a subsequent child is always a pleasant surprise. In the cover story for the February/March 2008 issue of Fit Pregnancy magazine, Gabrielle Reece admitted she was worried about how the introduction of a second daughter — Brody Jo, now 18 months — would impact her first daughter,  5 ½-year-old Reece Viola. “When you have your second child, you’re surprised that you have more to give,” Gabrielle says in the magazine’s August/September issue. “With one, you feel like you’re giving everything you have, and then a new baby arrives and you’re amazed you can give even more.”

Still, it was a “big transition” for Reece to make; Because she is “very close” with dad Laird Hamilton, Reece needed to learn how to share his affections. When her older daughter struggles with as much, Gabrielle says she reminds her of all that she has gained. “I explain that Brody Jo will potentially be the closest person to her in her life, that it’s a good thing to have a sister,” she adds.

Motherhood has transformed Gabrielle, who says that when she is pregnant often feels like “a sitting duck, just holding your breath until the baby comes out and you hear a cry.” She adds,

“When we are separated as a family, I am acutely aware of it.”

As a mom, the 39-year-old model says that she’s become “more direct about things,” making decisions quickly because “there’s no time to mess around with unnecessary drama and frivolity.” When asked how Laird fares as a father, Gabrielle offers a description that many moms can relate to! “I see it in his face: When he looks at all the girls, I see so much love, but I also see him wrestling with the details of what it means to be a family,” she explains. “He knows when to step in, but he wants a medal after doing it.”

Cruz Beckham: Head and Shoulders Above

INF

David Beckham‘s 4-year-old son Cruz David gets animated atop his shoulders during a trip to The Grove shopping center in West Hollywood on Thursday.

Earlier in the week, the soccer star made his return to the Los Angeles Galaxy — but not without issue. David was handed a $1000 fine by Major League Soccer after getting into a confrontation with a fan.

David, 34, and wife Victoria Beckham are also parents to boys Romeo James, 6 ½, and Brooklyn Joseph, 10.

Munchkin Caterpillar Spillers: Stacking, Linking Cups For Tub-Time Play

My 15-month-old son, Egan loves Munchkin’s Caterpillar Spillers ($7) for the tub!

Seven cups link together for a long, snaky chain or they stack for a tall tower.

We use them to spill water on his head and talk about the colors of each section.

My older son recognizes the numbers on each cup and stacks them in order.

We’ve even thrown them in the dishwasher when they need a good cleaning.

It’s a cute idea for a tub toy!

– Kristen, NJ mama to energetic 1 and 4 year old boys, loves hot designer goods (but appreciates a good bargain even more) and believes strollers should come with cup holders and toys should have volume controls

Dennis Quaid Switches Up His Defense

Flynet

Fatherhood the second (and third!) time around has provided Dennis Quaid with a different perspective on parenting; while raising multiples has also presented an additional set of challenges.

Speaking with USA Weekend, the 55-year-old actor notes that the age gap between son Jack Henry, 17, and twins Thomas Boone and Zoe Grace, 20 months, gave him plenty of time to accept all the life changes that a new baby can bring. “You don’t freak out at every sniffle and every trip and fall,” he explains. “It’s not such a shock, changing diapers and getting up in the night.” At the same time, Dennis admits “it’s harder because there’s two of them.”

“One’s going one way, and the other’s going the other. You go from man-to-man to zone defense.”

The twins are healthy and recovered from their rocky start in life, and Dennis – who spent spring break with Jack, looking at colleges — says that some stereotypes have held true. “She’s very much a girlie-girl, and he’s a linebacker,” he shares.

Dennis’ next project — G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra — hits theaters August 7th. Boone and Zoe are his children with wife Kimberly; Jack is his son with ex-wife Meg Ryan.

Lita Ford Hits the Road With Family in Tow

As rocker Lita Ford crisscrosses the globe in support of her upcoming comeback album Wicked Wonderland, she need not fret about leaving sons James, 12, and Rocco, 8, behind. The family of four — including husband Jim Gillette — has hit the road together, and they are making memories at every turn!

Although “bad food” has become a familiar sight, Lita, 50, notes that at least the cooking wasn’t hers! And while airports have also offered their fare share of highs and lows, the former Runaways lead guitarist puts a child-friendly spin on the extended downtime. “Isn’t security a blast now?” she asks before adding:

“Then there was the bomb threats in Sweden, but hey, the bomb sniffing dogs were cute!”

Wicked Wonderland is slated for an October release.

Nikki Nelson/WENN

“Both mom and baby are doing very well,” reads the statement. “Kayden is so handsome.”

Just last weekend, the excited expectant mama — who is the new face for Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula anti-stretch mark products –  celebrated baby’s upcoming arrival with a sprinkle and dished to CBB on her favorite pregnancy moment. “The best part is when the baby moves,” she said. “He lets me know he’s there.”

Annie Duke on Divorce: Don't Make Kids Pay for Parents' Mistakes

Ethan Miller/Getty

Celebrity Apprentice star Annie Duke is a single mom by label only. The 43-year-old is quick to point out to MomLogic that between her live-in boyfriend of four years Joe Reitman, an “extremely involved” ex-husband in Ben Duke and a nanny, she’s hardly going it alone.

“I have a relatively easy single parent life — we do support each other so much in our parenting and really do co-parent in every sense of the word,” she says of Ben. “When people ask me to speak about being a single mother, I often say I couldn’t even begin to speak upon those issues!” Emerging from their divorce unscathed is a source of pride for the one-time couple, who together are parents to Maud, 14, Leo, 11,  Lucy, 9, and Nell, 7. Annie adds,

“I wish that every divorced couple would remember this: You chose your partner, so take responsibility for that decision. Your kids did not choose their parents. Whatever wrongs your ex did to you (unless they were abusive) … don’t make your kids suffer from those mistakes.”

Annie singles out her tendency to be “overly focused” on the kids as the reason behind their split. “I think that’s what happens a lot to moms,” she muses. “Maybe I wasn’t as nurturing of the relationship.” When she found herself staying at work longer and longer to “avoid the problems at home,” Annie realized that action needed to be taken.  ”I wouldn’t have gotten divorced if I didn’t think what was going on in the marriage was affecting my kids negatively,” she explains. “When I realized that it started to affect the way I parent, that’s when it was over.” The kids are “so much happier” as a result, Annie says.

Despite her foray into reality television and her successful career as a professional poker player, Annie says her public persona does not extend to Maud, Leo, Lucy and Nell. “I wouldn’t put my children on a reality show in the first place,” she insists. “If you look on my twitter feed and my website, you will see zero pictures of my children. On my blog, you will see very few mentions of my children. Yesterday, I deleted 1,000 friend requests on Facebook because there are pictures of my kids on there, and I will not accept you if I don’t know you.” While a Jon & Kate Plus 8-type show has often been pitched to Annie, she says she has always consistently declined. “With cameras on 24/7, you lose that private part of you,” she notes. “I don’t see how a family is supposed to survive that.”

“We were raising four kids and we lost our marriage. You have to really maintain focus or that gets lost. I wasn’t putting focus on having private time with my spouse. I think it’s already hard if you have eight children to NOT lose that connection … and then you put it on TV?…My recommendation would be not to put your children on camera, period.”
