Ju-Ju-Be WannaBe: The Bag That Made Our First Plane Trip Doable

There are times when leaving your house with kids seems downright impossible. There is just too much to consider.

When my twins were infants, it was formula, diapers, change of clothing, small toys. When I had potty-training toddlers, it was extra clothes and underwear, a potty seat. For all ages, it’s water, and snacks, and — heaven forbid — anything that I might actually have to carry for myself!! And that is when I am leaving the house to head to the playground!

I was recently panicking when I had to consider how to manage a five hour plane flight with my now 3 ½-year old-twins… by myself. Admittedly, the task might be more daunting with twins, but alas, I suspect that all of us have gone through the “how in the world am I going to carry this” dilemma at some point (or many) since they became parents.

And now there is an answer. Ju-Ju-Be, maker of designer diaper bags of all sizes, as well as bags dads won’t whine about carrying, now has a bag for traveling: the WannaBe travel and overnight bag ($160).

According to the company, the bag is named for “all the places we Wannabe.” And truth be told, I can imagine being those places with this bag. It has room for all of the things that I mentioned above — and more. It has small plastic pouches for wet items to be safely kept, it has pockets — both zipper and mesh — galore.

But we’ve all seen big bags before. And while the quality of the material and the variety and funkiness of the patterns is enough to get you to buy the bag, it gets better. In fact, I had a fairly big diaper bag for the first two years I had the kids, but this one — at 19″ x 17″ 8″ it’s truly one of the largest that I’ve seen — IS A BACKPACK TOO!!! It has straps that can be hooked on to create two shoulders straps for the bag to be carried. Which means two arms free in the airport. Which for a mom of twins flying without dad this past month meant possibilities and sanity.

The WannaBe comes in four fantastic and loud DuPont Teflon-coated prints that repel stains. Other features of the bag include their trademark mesh-lined Sand Trap to let crumbs and sand out without losing your belongings, external towel holder, MP3 pocket with headphone port, lined electronics pockets with dividers to keep your cell phone, camera, etc. from scratching each other, insulated snack pocket, two wet pouches, and magazine and book pockets.

Like their other bags, it also has light colored linings to make finding your stuff easy, Thinsulate-lined bottle pockets, is machine-washable (but should be air-dried), durable metal hardware, quiet magnet closures wherever you’d typically find velcro and a mommy pocket with a bungee-esque key chain.
