Kelis and Nas Welcome Son Knight

Johnny Nunez/WireImage

It’s a boy for Kelis and Nas! The 29-year-old R&B songstress gave birth to son Knight Jones around 9 p.m. last evening, Wednesday, July 22nd, in New York City. Baby boy weighed in at 7 lbs., 8 oz.

According to her rep, Kelis delivered naturally with her mother and sister by her side after about 31 hours of labor. “The beautiful baby boy and his mother are doing wonderful,” she shares.

The pregnancy was announced in February. Knight is the first child for Kelis and the second for Nas, who has a 15-year-old daughter, Destiny, from a previous relationship.

Kelis’ due date had been Tuesday.

I heard quite a bit about this birth and it just happened!

and I actually like the name

Congrats love the name. Poor girl that’s a long labor. One of mine was 17 hours and I thought that was bad. Funny that I saw this news on ok’s site yesterday but she had not even delivered yet.

- Brandi on

Congrats to her! Hopefully now that her lil one is here, she and Nas can start focusing on co-parenting instead of her asking for as much money as she can get and him making defensive statements. I don’t really care why they split, but when she is demanding 3/4 of his income and saying the only way he can see his son is by paying the hospital bill, she looks like a gold-digger and he doesn’t look much better. They were a very loving couple @ one point, so perhaps with some mediation they can put Knight first.

Congrats to them, and 31 hours?! My longest was five!

I hope Kelis and Nas can work things out between them in order to raise their child. I’m sure Knight is beautiful, and his name is actually very nice in my opinion.

I love Kelis and Nas and hopefully their new bundle of joy can help them reconcile their differences for the child’s sake

I love the name. It flows. Different and unusual but not totally out there

- stedine on

Congratulations to them! The name is different but not too out there. I kinda like it. Wow, 31hrs of labor?? I think that would just about kill me.

I like the name. Congratulations to them!

And Mary-Helen, I heard Nas wasn’t allowed in the delivery room because he was drunk.

- Lynn on

I hadn’t heard that. If so, how sad.

I just hope the public squabbling stops. Like I said, the reasons are none of our business, but when they go off publically on each other like this, especially about money, it makes both parties look really childish. They were once very happy and hopefully they can reach a place where they can co-parent successfully.

- Mary-Helen on

congrats to them love the name long labours with first borns are common so we shouldn’t jump to conclussions

- Courtney on

I love the name Knight! It flows perfectly with their names; Kelis, Nas and Knight.

31 hours is a lot, but my poor sister in law was in labor for 52! Go Kelis for going natural and being such a trooper!

- Sarah on

I didn’t know that they split! Poor Kelis, one more to join the team of Bridget Moynahan, Denise Richards, Mary-Louise Parker, Isabelle Adjani…

By the way, congrats for the baby.

- Anne on

That is a pretty cool name: Knight Jones. It also is similar/area of “Kingston”. I hope her and Nas work things out, whatever makes it work! I bet the little guy is adorable :)

- Mia on

Loooves the name, I knew she would have a creative unique name choice based on her sense of style!
I hope her & Nas can grow up and work something out for little Knights sake, Congrats nonetheless!!

- Daisy on

It’s strange that some sites are reporting Knight born the 21st at 9 pm, not the 22nd. Oh well, congrats to Kelis. 31 hours is long!

- Marilyn on

Congratulations, Kelis! Nas,no comment.

Congrats to them! Love the name! Don’t believe everything the media says…

- Maura on

Very cool name!

K for Kelis and n for Nas(stage name). Different w/o being out there. Congratulations!

- Hilda on

Actually, Nas’s given name is Nasir, so it is a fun combination of their names. Kelis’s name is her parents names combined, so perhaps they decided to keep up the trend?

- Mary-Helen on

Mary-Helen, it’s not as if Kelis is submitting press releases about seeking spousal support; petitions for spousal support are public records. And to be quite frank, if she was not receiving any financial support while she was pregnant, she was entitled to go to court and get it. She also did not seek 3/4 of his income.

Congrats…welcome new baby!

- Chrystal K. on

What a cool name!Kelis is awesome.I’m sure their boy is darling.

- eva on

Mary-Helen- Obviously I have no way of knowing how true this is, but I read somewhere that Nas cheated on Kelis while she was pregnant.

If that is the case, then I will have lost a lot of respect for him. I mean, cheating on your wife is bad enough…but doing it while she’s pregnant is even worse!

Granted, none of us know the whole story, so it’s possible that Kelis also made some poor choices that contributed to the break-up. I just can’t stand men (or women, for that matter) who cheat on their partners!

- CelebBabyLover on

I’m not a fan of the baby’s name, but congratulations to them!
