I agree with the male midwife but he will probably get a lot of criticism because he is a man saying it.

I think the midwife really said his point poorly. It came off like a woman NEEDS the pain to bond with her baby, and I just don’t believe that’s true. I would have disagreed with a female midwife saying it too, but I’ll be honest: I do think it comes off a little worse when it’s a man saying it, or a woman who has never given birth. It’s easy to talk about how a woman “should” labor when you’ve never done it!

I admire women who birth drug-free. It’s not for everyone though, and that’s OK. I strongly believe the best way to labor is what you are most comfortable with, because if you’re comfortable, your baby has a better chance of being comfortable. It’s ridiculous to think that women can’t bond with their babies properly if they don’t labor naturally. Post-partum depression can happen to anyone. I don’t think I need to go into the # of people I know (my self included) who bond with their kids just fine, either.
