My daughter was 9 lbs 11 oz and 22 1/2 inches at birth, but I wasn’t diabetic with her either. My 2nd son was 8lbs 13oz and he was 3 wks early, but I wasn’t diabetic with him either. I was, however, diabetic with their brother, who was 8 lbs 6 oz at birth. They are now 14 & 12 (sons) & 11 (daughter). The boys are both 6 ft tall, not at all fat, not even chunky. Tall and lanky. My daughter is 5 ft 4 inches at 11, and not obese or fat either. Birth weight doesn’t mean the mother has uncontrolled diabetes or blood sugars or that they will necessarily be overweight later on. PS…I am 5 ft 7 in (was 5lbs 13oz at birth)& their dad is 6 ft 4 in (was 6lbs 2 oz at birth). So, even our birth weights didn’t have anything to do with my children’s weights.

What? Blaine is an old Scottish name. It’s not ridiculous. Quite nice actually.

Blaine is an old fashioned name, not a ridiculous one. Perhaps they are naming him after an older family member or a deceased relative?

I personally think Blaine is a lovely name, not silly at all.

I cannot believe the comments here saying the baby is obese and hopefully she had a c-section. What?!? Babies come in all sizes and a baby is not obese; it’s just not. And I would not wish major surgery on anyone. Why are we in this country so scared to birth our babies?

I’m 5’4″ and weigh 125-130 lbs when not pregnant/losing baby weight. I have never had gestational diabetes. My first was 8 lbs 7 oz and I definitely did not gain enough weight with her as I was in an emotionally difficult place.

My next 2 were boys, both 22″ and weighed 10 lbs 1 oz and 10 lbs 2 oz at birth (2 days late and on his EDD, respectively); they were also very broad-shouldered and had large heads (thank you DH!). They were big babies, but most definitely not obese; they just look like 3-month olds. And they were both born at home, perfectly healthy, no need for major abdominal surgery one bit.

Anyway, congrats to them and I hope they enjoy their “little” one!

I won’t bother commenting about the size of the baby because some of you prefer to think having s small baby is better so whatever.

I really believe this is why more and more babies cry at christenings/baptisms than several years ago. Sigh.

My 1st daughter was 10lb 9. We are all tall and were told she was going to be a big baby from about 6 months into pregnancy. They still let me go 10 days overdue!! She was the most beautiful and perfectly healthy baby and is now an extremely tall and slim 6 yr old. Why are you so judgemental about baby weight! As if kids aren’t paranoid enough about weight these days! Geez people, calm down.

cara – I don’t know exactly when they got married, but I think he proposed to her on TV (I think it was at the finale show, but I don’t remember exactly). The shocking thing was not that they got married, but that he was already married to someone else when he was a contestant on the show. He left his wife (the one who stayed married to him even when he was obese) for Amy once he got thin and decided he could land someone more “attractive”.

Wow some of the comments are a bit much. There have been many babies born around 10 pounds who are perfectly healthy.Believe it or not there are babies who are bigger when they’re born.

That’s a big boy! I don’t think you can claim he is obese or anything, considering he was JUST BORN!

I don’t think the mom or dad’s weight/height have anything to do with the baby’s size. Amalah (www.amalah) gave birth to a 9 pound 15 oz. son the first time, and a 7 pound 7 oz. son the second time! And she is so tiny!

Congrats! Everyone needs to stop making such a fuss about his weight. 10lbs. is not ideal, but he’s fine! My friends mother gave birth to a 10lbs. 7oz. baby one month early! And now, he’s 4 and doing fine and is a cute little boy.
