Sandra Bullock Says Betty White's Take on Stepchildren Gave Her Strength

Steve Granitz/WireImage

At 44 and 87 respectively, who knew that both Sandra Bullock and Betty White shared so much in common? While spending time filming their new movie The Proposal, Sandra — after discovering that her co-star once found herself in the same situation when it came to parenting stepchildren — was only further encouraged that her lifestyle choices have been the right ones.

“[Betty] said, ‘You know what? I never had children biologically. I married someone who had three children. And how blessed I was to have those three stepchildren.’ That’s exactly what happened to me,” Sandra recalls.

“I went, ‘Wow.’ When everyone is going, ‘You should have a baby now,’ I’m like, ‘I could. Maybe I should. But do I need to?’”

Embracing life as a stepmom to husband Jesse James‘ children — Chandler, 14, Jesse James Jr., 11, and Sunny, 5 — has Sandra stepping in to help raise their youngest daughter while her mother Janine Lindemulder serves time for failure to pay taxes. As for the older children, as a result of the couple’s teamwork with mom Karla, things have been smooth sailing. “We all parent together,” she says. “It’s beautiful. It’s like synchronized swimming.”

While the actress is well aware she “may never hear that word ‘mom,’” and admits the lack of a formal title “hurts,” she has come to terms with the bigger picture of parenting. “Being a parent is not about breeding. It’s about caring,” she explains. That, she says, is what remains close to her heart.

“It’s easy to say, but it’s harder to do. But this is the best test of being a parent. And I just have to keep reminding myself I don’t care what I get. I care what I give.”

The Proposal is in theaters now.

Caught Caring: Marlee Matlin and the Los Angeles Regional Foodbank

Celebrity Baby Blog – Caught Caring

The glitz and glamour of life on the red carpet was undoubtedly far from the mind of Marlee Matlin last Thursday. The Academy Award-winning actress and her 13-year-old daughter Sarah Rose spent the day volunteering at the Los Angeles Regional Foodbank, packing spinach into food distribution bags bound for local senior citizens.

The experience clearly left a lasting impression; Ever since, Marlee has been tweeting about the work being done by the Foodbank, and urging others to get involved. With 1 in 8 Los Angeles residents currently at risk for hunger, the time is now. Marlee notes that “this year the demand for food assistance has gone up 24% in LA county alone,” and in a later tweet writes,

“Be prepared folks. The problem here will get worse, esp in CA. Budgets are being cut and people will have to go without. We who are fortunate must help.”

Marie Carpenter

Doing so is easier than you think. The Foodbank’s Skip a Lunch, Feed a Bunch program provides four meals for every dollar donated. Donate $10 — what you’ll probably wind up spending on lunch today — and you provide forty meals. What’s more, thanks to a generous matching grant from the Goodman Family Foundation, a gift of $10 will be matched to provide food for 80 meals.

One lunch for you, or lunch for 80 people in need? For Marlee, the answer is simple. After recently “mediating” a squabble between “12 kids who were arguing what to do with Lemonade stand profits,” Marlee tweets: “After much ado, I decided. DONATE!”

In addition to Sarah, Marlee is mom to Brandon Joseph, 8 ½, Tyler Daniel, turning 7 next month, and Isabelle Jane, 5 ½, with husband Kevin Grandalski.

Meet Donald John Trump III!

Lawrence Schwartzwald/Splash News Online

It’s baby Donnie! Donald Trump Jr., wife Vanessa and kids Kai Madison, 2, and Donald John III, 4 months, pose for a photo after a casual brunch at Serafina on Father’s Day in NYC.

How’s Kai adjusting to being a big sister? Very well, according to Vanessa.

“I’m breastfeeding, but sometimes I pump and put it in a bottle so she can feed him,” she shares. “Kai loves it. She loves to sit there, she puts the pillow around, she copies me with the burp cloth.”

The family tries to stay together as much as possible.

“We try to integrate as much stuff with the children by bringing them to dinners and making them a part of it,” Donald explains. “I think frankly it’s a way to really develop a child well, too.”

Do you ever pump so your older child can give a bottle to your infant?
