Bumbleride Flyer: A Reversible Handle Plus Good Looks

We reviewed the Bumbleride Flyer ($360) in the vita color scheme, a great-looking hot pink.

At first I was reluctant to push my 1-year-old son Egan around in a pink stroller, but once I got the hang of the Flyer I was sold. I really like this stroller and if people think he’s a girl, so be it!

The Flyer is a full-featured stroller with a reversible handle. Just push two latches and it flips right over so you can look at the baby. Then you just lock the back wheels and unlock the front wheels so they swivel instead. This is important because we tried pushing it with all four wheels swiveling.

The effect really resembles a dog on roller skates — pink roller skates.

BabbaCover in Airy Cotton: Protect Baby From Sun, Wind and Bugs

Most infant car seats have abysmal sun coverage because they’re designed to be used chiefly in the car. But everyone knows that parents frequently use the car seat outside of the car, often in a car seat frame like the Snap and Go, so we’re left draping blankets over the limited hood. One gentle summer breeze and a lightweight blanket often flies off. Enter the BabbaCover in Airy Cotton ($60) which provides 50+ SPF protection with the Solarweave cotton and mosquito netting which also allows for air circulation/flow. It comes in three cute prints, has a hole by the handle so you can securely grip it and fits all standard infant car seats (may not fit the Orbit).

The cold weather versions ($89) are made of fleece (which include a car and pig style) or flannel and keep out the sun and cold. Because they don’t have netting, there is a roll-up window so you can check in on baby and maintain eye contact.

As with all third-party car seat products, the BabbaCover should not be used while in the car because they are not tested for crash protection.

Peter Facinelli Finds the World is Fit For a Fivesome

Axelle Woussen/Bauer Griffin

The decision to add another child in the mix is a big step, and while actors Peter Facinelli and Jennie Garth have spaced their brood out, the father of three admits the large age gap has its share of disadvantages. “They’re all like 4 or 5 years apart, so every time they were out of diapers I was like, ‘Oh, I think I can do this again,’ and you forget that it’s so much work,” he tells Ryan Seacrest.

To that end, although Peter may be moving past the diaper phase, the age differences between his daughters isn’t getting much easier! “Now they’re all at an age where they all want to do different things, so you’re constantly being split up — your attention is being split,” he notes. While the 35-year-old jokes that a dedicated father handbook would be most useful, it has been good, old-fashioned experience that has taught him two kids are easier than three!

“I’d say [with] two you’re going man-to-man, so you have your wife with you and it’s easy. Now [with three kids] we’re playing zone.”

As Ryan suggests the theory that a fourth child could create a sense of balance among the siblings, allowing them to depend more on one another and less on their parents, Peter laughs that his own mindset leads him to believe the world is designed for a fivesome. “That’s what I tell my wife,” he says.

“It’s party of five. You go into a restaurant, there’s five chairs at a table. You go to a hotel, you can fit five people in the [room]; If you get one more person, you have to get two hotel rooms. You get into a car, it seats five, otherwise you gotta get a Yukon bus!”

Peter and Jennie are parents to daughters Luca Bella, 12 this month, Lola Ray, 6 ½, and Fiona Eve, 2 ½.

Ashby Zubchevich Celebrates Her Second Birthday!

Jen Lowery/Startraks

Celebra-babies gathered Saturday at the Los Angeles home of Access Hollywood host Nancy O’Dell and her husband Keith Zubchevich, to celebrate the second birthday of their daughter Ashby Grace. According to mom and dad, the guest of honor is already quite the tomboy!

Even though she wore a pink dress to her Sesame Street-themed party — styled by Jennifer Sbranti of Hostess With the Mostess and featuring a candy buffet with treats from Sweet Factory — Ashby’s favorite toys are WWE action figures and a set of plastic golf-clubs according to Keith. “She could care less about dresses,” he reveals. “She doesn’t have one Barbie doll.”

She’s not afraid to stand up to her big brothers Tyler, 13, and Carson, 10, either! Keith jokingly adds,

“Her favorite thing to say now is, ‘Beat it, punk!’”

Ashby took a swing at T-ball early in the afternoon with family friend Benjamin Edward Sanov, the 4 ½-year-old son of The Biggest Loser host Alison Sweeney. Proud moms Nancy and Alison, carrying 5-month-old daughter Megan Hope, watched over the game and shared a laugh when one wild swing sent the T flying into the air. Sam Sheen, 5, and Lola Rose Sheen, 4, were on hand with mom Denise Richards, as well as The SuperstarsAli Landry with 23-month-old daughter Estela Ines, The L Word’s Marlee Matlin with three of her four children and Marissa Jaret Winokur with her 10 ½-month-old son Zev Isaac. The 36-year-old Dance Your Ass Off host revealed that she’s in the process of shedding the 25 pounds of sympathy weight she gained both before and after Zev’s birth. “[It was] total stress,” Marissa explains. “You don’t actually have to carry the baby to gain weight.”

“When I wasn’t working, if I had an hour [and] my husband wasn’t home from work yet, I’d be like, oh, I’m gonna run on the treadmill. [But sometimes] you have an hour and the last thing you wanna do is get on a treadmill.”

Moms, dads and babies then retreated indoors for a performance by Bubble Mania that left everyone oohing and aahing, and later Ashby danced to a surprise concert from her “favorite children’s group” (according to mom Nancy!), The Jumpitz. Denise and her daughters grabbed a front-row seat for the show, sharing a couch with party-planner Jayneoni Moore while Nancy and Marlee grabbed seats on the ground. The Jumpitz performed several songs from their new DVD Celebrate Animals and sang a special rendition of ‘Happy Birthday’ just for Ashby.

Ashby’s friends and family left the party toting SkipHop Doggy Zoo Packs filled with Thinkbaby sippy cups, items from Fisher Price, Lego, the “Your Baby Can Read” system, Plum Organics, Crayola, Motts and more.

Tyler and Carson are Keith’s children from a previous marriage; Ashby is the first child together for the couple, who will celebrate their fourth wedding anniversary later this month.

Swim School Deluxe Toddler Racer: A True Water Winner

This summer’s perfect pool toy search started in early spring for me. I was looking for the ideal combination of inexpensive, safe and fun. Swim School’s Deluxe Toddler Racer ($20) fit all three categories. Even before I pumped it full of air my kids were playing with the yellow and red steering wheel. Once in the water my toddlers had a ball “driving” their racing boat around the pool.

Made with double-laminated vinyl for extra durability, a comfortable seat back, holding handles and a turning steering wheel with horn, it’s suitable for ages 18-36 months, 20-35 pounds. The toddler seat with leg openings ensured that they were fairly secure. Of course, this doesn’t mean that you can lounge in a chair drinking a Margarita leaving the toddler unattended — I was never a step or two away from the racer, and usually had my hands on it at all times — but it gave me a chance to give my kids a little independence in the water.
