Jill Hennessy's Slim Secret: Veggies, Yoga and Kids' Leftovers!

Johns Pkl/Splash News Online

Jill Hennessy: Pop star? The former Law & Order actress is returning to her musical roots with a new album she wrote and produced with her husband — mostly from the kitchen table of their New York City apartment. The wise-cracking, down-to-earth mother of two, who starred in the hit NBC series Crossing Jordan for six years, recorded the album with her husband, Paolo Mastropietro, while she was pregnant with her second child, Gianni, 17 months. Ghost in My Head will be released online in June.

Juggling an album release, starring in the just-released movie, Lymelife, with Alec Baldwin, Emma Roberts and Timothy Hutton, and parenting two energetic boys (Gianni’s big brother, Marco, is 5 ½) was no easy feat, says Jill, 40. “The album that my husband and I produced is finally coming out on June 16,” she told PEOPLE at a party Monday night for chef-to-the-stars John DeLucie’s new memoir The Hunger at The Waverly Inn in New York City. “We sit at the kitchen table and we work on distribution, publicity, graphic art and design and stuff.”

While she tries to eat lots of veggies to stay slim, that didn’t always happen while they were producing the album, she says. “I’m a vegetable freak.  I love vegetables. But because of all the work we’ve been doing, I end up not eating as much as I should.” Or chowing down on her kids’ leftovers! “I end up eating peanut butter and jelly crusts, ham and cheese, carrot and celery sticks and coming to events like this and hoping there’s food,” she says laughing. “That’s exactly what’s been happening lately.”

Chasing after the kids and squeezing in mommy-friendly workouts when she can keeps her in shape. “I love yoga,” she says. “I was doing yoga during pregnancy. It’s something I could do while the baby’s down for a nap and I have five minutes to myself. Or I’ll get up twenty minutes early and do some sun salutations. It clears my head and it’s fun. I feel like I’m a little kid playing again doing stupid things with my body and I love it.”

The Canadian-born actress started her career busking in New York City subway stations, singing Green Day, Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen covers – and making $15 an hour, to boot. She was in a band when she landed the Law & Order gig, starring as DA Claire Kincaid in the early 1990s, which made her a star. At this point in her life, she’s thrilled to be releasing her first full-length album.

“She’s always singing around the house,” says Paolo, who met Jill when he was working in a New York City Bar more than ten years ago. “I used to ride her around this [West Village] neighborhood on a bike. What I love about her is that she’s so laid back.”

Beyond the music and the acting, Jill says she loves being a mom more than anything. On Mother’s Day, she says she and Marco enjoyed a little one-on-one time – indulging in a meal of macaroni and cheese and attending a concert. “I was sitting next to him, thinking, ‘This little guy is so cool. I can’t believe I’m related to him!’”

Gretchen Wilson and Daughter Proud to be Redneck Women

Chris Polk/WireImage

Country singer Gretchen Wilson is happy to call herself a redneck woman — and so is her 7 ½-year-old daughter Grace Frances! “My daughter is a redneck woman, she’s a redneck girl,” explains Gretchen, and says that as a mom, she couldn’t be prouder about it. “To me, redneck is a sense of self and a way of life. My daughter is proud of who she is regardless of what anybody tells her she’s supposed to be.”

Gretchen tries her hardest to be a good influence for her daughter, and that’s one reason why she went back to school and received her GED last year. The mom has no doubt in her mind that Grace will go on to finish school.

“Mothers and daughters have that rivalry thing. And now that I have my diploma, I have something that she doesn’t have. So I have a feeling just knowing her and knowing she’s like me, she’ll have to have one, too.”

Gretchen, 35, burst into the country scene in early 2004 with her hit Redneck Woman. Her fourth album, I Got Your Country Right Here, is set to be released this summer.

Grace’s father is Mike Penner.

Jerry O'Connell Stops to Smell the Flowers

Sean O’Neill/INF

With two brand new daughters and two busy careers, Jerry O’Connell and Rebecca Romijn are no doubt stretched to their limits. If the pressure is getting to them, however, it isn’t showing. “‘Sure, we’re busy, but we’re also taking the time to take it all in — to stop and smell the roses and the tulips, if you will,” Jerry tells the Chicago Sun-Times, in a nod to daughters Dolly Rebecca Rose and Charlie Tamara Tulip, 4-months.

In his new film Baby on Board, Jerry portrays a cad caught cheating just as his wife learns she is pregnant. “The funny thing is — we learned about Rebecca’s pregnancy around the time I was shooting [the film], so maybe there’s a bit of karma there,” he jokes. He’s quick to point out, however, that all similarities end there!

”If I was anything like the character I played in this movie, I probably wouldn’t be sitting here as a happy father of twin girls right now. My point is, that [fictional] couple is nothing like my wife and me. Rebecca really wanted a child — and having twins is just a bonus.”

One thing is for certain: The girls won’t be seeing Baby on Board anytime soon! “Given the language and situations in [the film], I’d say they will have to be well into college before I let them see it,” Jerry, 35, says.

Baby on Board will be available on DVD next month.

Jennifer Lopez Opens Up About Emme's Health Scare

Roger Wong/INF

Shortly after welcoming fraternal twins Maximilian David and Emme Maribel, now 14 months, singers Jennifer Lopez and her husband Marc Anthony were in seventh heaven, enjoying life as a family. However, their happiness almost came to a screeching halt as the two were faced with a parent’s worst nightmare: the couple found a lump on then 3-week old Emme’s head.

Opening up about the scare at a Noche de Niños gala benefit for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA), the memory is one that is hard to erase from Jennifer’s mind. “We both got very nervous, very very nervous, and I just remember my heart sinking to my feet,” she recalls.

“I looked at [Marc] and I said, ‘You know if anything happens, I’m not going to be OK, you know that, right?’”

Immediately the couple rushed their daughter to the hospital where doctors reacted quickly, running a long list of tests — among them an MRI. Fortunately, Jennifer and Marc consider themselves among the lucky ones as baby Emme “turned out fine.” The incident, however, finished with a happy ending in more ways than one. “I started to wonder, what if I couldn’t afford a doctor or receive the medicines, the procedures?” says Jennifer.

As a result, Jennifer has teamed up with CHLA to jointly form the Maribel Foundation, an organization that will assist in providing pediatric medical services to struggling families.
