Shutterfly Lays Out the Welcome Mat

If you store your photos on Kodak Gallery, you have to place an order of $4.99 or $19.99 (depending on how many photos you’re storing) to keep them there for the next 12 months or make other arrangements by today. If you don’t make the minimum order, Kodak’s new terms of service state that your photos “may” be deleted. Stepping in to help Kodak customers who need a free solution is Shutterfly, who are unrolling a “welcome mat” full of freebies and discounts to new customers. The welcome mat package includes a free photo book, 25 free prints and 12 stationery cards in addition to their free photo storage and sharing. Afterward, their 4×6 prints will cost you $0.15 each but you can also purchase pre-paid plans that lower the cost to as much as $0.10 a print.

It’s going to be a little bit of a pain in the you-know-what to get your photos off of Kodak and ironically, what you have to do will allow you to extend your storage by another year, but in the long run, it will be worth it. You can order an Archive CD-ROM of all of your photos for $10-35 for up to 1,000 photos and then either upload the images to Shutterfly yourself or send the CD to them.

In the meantime, take advantage of the Welcome Mat offer by opening a Shutterfly account by Monday, May 18, 2009 and uploading at least 50 photos. You will then be eligible for the Welcome Mat deal. Even if you’re not a current Kodak Gallery customer, this is a great offer!

Candace Parker, Shelden Williams Welcome a Daughter

David Sherman/NBAE/Getty

It’s a girl for LA Sparks’ forward Candace Parker and husband Shelden Williams of the Minnesota Timberwolves!

The WNBA star, 22, gave birth to a daughter today, Wednesday May 13th, at 11:29 a.m in Los Angeles. Baby girl weighed in at 7 lbs., 6 oz and 20″ long and is the first child for the couple, who eloped in November. “Shelden and I are thrilled,” says Candace. “We are very excited to be expanding our family. This is such a life changing moment for us, we feel blessed to have a healthy and beautiful baby girl.”

The couple do not wish to release their daughter’s name at this time, hoping to share with both sides of the family and close friends first.

The 6’4″ forward had an impressive 2008 — she won two Espy awards, and was named Rookie of the Year as well as Most Valuable Player, marking the first time in the WNBA’s 12 seasons that a rookie won MVP.

The “female Michael Jordan” as she’s referred by fans worldwide captured her first Olympic Gold Medal at the 2008 Summer Games in Beijing. Candace says she has no plans of slowing down and will continue to work out in preparation for the 2009 season, beginning June 6th. She may even take her bundle of joy along to the court. “The baby will be along for the ride, with me on trips, at the court,” Candace told ESPN Magazine. “You don’t hear about male players doing that, do you? Women, we just have to balance more things. It’s harder for us. That’s just the way it is.”

The couple announced the pregnancy in January. Candace says she plans to rejoin the Los Angeles Sparks once she receives clearance from her physician.

Marcia Cross: Twins Provide Their Dad With 'the Best Medicine'

INF

Although they don’t know it yet, 2-year-old twins Eden and Savannah Mahoney have been instrumental in helping their dad Tom Mahoney as he battles an undisclosed form of cancer.  Their mom, actress Marcia Cross, shared during a recent appearance on The Bonnie Hunt Show that the girls visited their father in the hospital just once, but it was with great success! “I was sort of apprehensive,” Marcia admits, “but we just wanted to make it really normal.”

“We didn’t tell them where they were going in case we had to change plans, but they came in and they were so happy to see him. They just wanted to … explore everything. It was great. It’s the best medicine…They don’t know what a hospital is, they don’t care. It’s just…’There’s dad!’”

Marcia, 47, keeps Tom connected to their family of four when he is undergoing treatment any way she can! During a brief hospitalization last week, Tom was missing out on the girls adventures in potty training. “Lets just say we took pictures of what went in the potty to show Daddy,” she laughed. “He’s a very proud papa!”

The girls are growing up in more ways than one. Whether it’s being “very mischievous together” or playing hide-and-seek, they are developing distinct personalities and making sure their opinions are heard! Marcia recalled one recent exchange at bedtime, when the girls were “stalling” to have more time with mom. “It’s, ‘Another book, another hug, another kiss,” she explained, adding:

“One of them was face down in the crib and she said, ‘Another song Mama?’ And I’m just thinking…you’re so tired, you love them, but you’re like, ‘Go to sleep I’m exhausted!’ And so I start singing ‘Rock a Bye Baby,’ and I hear, ‘I’m not a baby anymore, Mama.’ I’m like, ‘Okay, fair enough.’”

Nicole Richie's Green Thumb

Ramey

She’s not your garden-variety starlet! An expectant Nicole Richie finds herself getting down and dirty during a visit Tuesday to the Helen Bernstein High School in Hollywood, where she celebrated the launch of the Environmental Media Association’s celebrity-driven initiative to provide organic gardens at schools in the Los Angeles area.

Nicole, 27, blogged on her site,

“I’ve been a board member of the Environmental Media Association for four years now, and when I heard they were taking on this very powerful awareness program, I immediately wanted to help.

The purpose of school is education, and to me, it doesn’t make sense to educate children in math, science, history, and literature, but not educate them in nutrition and their environment. This program will give me the opportunity to help mentor students in these very important subjects.

Each of [the celebrity members of the board] will be adopting a school to raise awareness for the program and help students with environmental education.”

Nicole and partner Joel Madden expect their second child in August, joining daughter Harlow Winter Kate, 16 months.

Pregnancy Not Slowing Down Shannon Miller

Jim Sulley/Newscast/Landov

Staying fit has always been a priority for former Olympic gymnast Shannon Miller but it is even more important now that she is expecting her first child. Shannon, who tries to work out at least four times a week, knows that her workouts will change slightly while pregnant and has already made some adjustments to her schedule. “I have added a lot more yoga to keep my flexibility and my cardio workouts are focused around long walks, elliptical and swimming. This way I’m not pounding on my joints or ever-expanding tummy!,” she explains. “I also try to do some light arm weights to prepare for carrying around my bundle of joy.”

For now, staying in shape is a priority for Shannon as she plans to participate in her foundation’s first annual Shannon Miller Kids Marathon on May 30th. Encouraging children to run or walk 25 miles in the 12 weeks leading up to a race, the kids then finish a final 1.2 miles on race day to complete the 26.2-mile marathon distance. Now that’s she’s expecting, Shannon finds the topic of childhood obesity closer to her heart than ever.

“My foundation is geared toward fighting childhood obesity. Now it seems even more important as I think about my nutrition needs during pregnancy and keeping our child healthy and active growing up.”

As for the baby on the way, Shannon and husband John Falconetti “are so excited about our new addition” and she is enjoying each new development — minus the morning sickness! “The 24/7 sickness more than morning sickness. But my friends kept reminding me that it’s the sign of a healthy pregnancy. And at this point I am feeling much better.”

Shannon announced her pregnancy on last month and is due on November 5th.
