Paris Bennett: I'm Motivated by Motherhood

Rick Diamond/WireImage

Songstress Paris Bennett has learned a lot since her days on American Idol, but despite adding motherhood to her resume when she welcomed daughter Egypt, now 7 months, the 20-year-old skipped out on the lessons of hard labor! After feeling the baby moving around in her belly followed by some minor pain, the expectant mama went in early to her doctor’s appointment — only to find out that she was already 8 cm dilated. “I called my mom and the family rushed to the hospital,” she tells momlogic.

“I got to the hospital around 3:00 p.m. and Miss Egypt came at 3:36 p.m.”

In the months since her fast arrival, Egypt has not slowed down and makes sure she keeps her mama always on her toes! Calling her baby girl “very demanding and diva-ristic,” Paris shares that Egypt — who has become “picky about everything” — is not too fond of a dirty diaper. Fortunately, the proud mama has discovered the perfect remedy to keep her little princess peaceful! “I never knew that warm milk at night or wrapping your baby tight after a bath would really work,” she says, admitting she considered them both to be “old-school” myths. “It really does work! I give Egypt a bath at night, wrap her in a warm blanket, and give her a warm bottle and she’s out at night.”

Sending out a message to all the parents who find themselves struggling to juggle both a career and their family, a sympathetic Paris is quick to offer encouragement. “You can do it! Never let anyone tell you you can’t!” she urges. “Use your child for self-motivation.” With a blossoming music career, the singer is taking her own advice as she often looks to her daughter when she is in need of a boost. “I look at Egypt every day and think of the things I want her to do in life and everything I wouldn’t want her to want for,” she says.

Proving all the naysayers wrong, Paris is determined to be successful, both for herself and her child. “It takes time and a great deal of self-determination,” she explains of motherhood. With her thoughts turned toward the future, any struggles she is facing are overturned by her dream to make it to the finish line.

“I had my share of people saying I wouldn’t be able to have a career and a baby, but that just made me want it more. I added her into my lifestyle and I am going to keep going and prove them all wrong.”

Celeb Chef Stephanie Goldfarb Shares Grill Recipes Kids Will Love

Stephanie Goldfarb

Memorial Day reigned in the official start of BBQ season and though mom and dad are usually open to grilling all sorts of meats and vegetables, most kids are strictly all about the hot dogs and hamburgers. How can you get them to experiment? We asked celebrity chef Stephanie Goldfarb who has cooked for celeb parents like Halle Berry, Ben Stiller, and Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith for healthier ideas that kids will love. She shared three great ideas for kids’ favorites that you can put on the grill.

Kabobs
“Kabobs are always a big hit with kids,” Stephanie says, because “kids love food on a stick.” (Who doesn’t?) Get creative: teriyaki chicken kabob for dinner, a fruit kabob for dessert.

Mirka Vavrinec Federer Roots for Roger

Juan Soliz/Pacific Coast News

Pregnant Mirka Vavrinec Federer — wife of tennis star Roger Federer — cheers on her husband during the French Open 2009 held Thursday at the Roland-Garros stadium in Paris.

The couple, who are expecting a baby boy this summer, haven’t chosen a name for their son yet, and consider it a daunting task!

“You know, we’ll see,” Roger said recently. “There’s quite a few books around that are that thick, so we’ll see where it takes us. But, no, we haven’t decided anything yet. I have no clue right now myself. Thank God we have time left to decide.”

Hank Azaria: I'm Used to Being Alone

Janet Gough/Celebrity Photo

Contemplating first-time fatherhood at the age of 45, actor Hank Azaria knows that things are about to change in a big, big way. During a recent appearance on The Bonnie Hunt Show, he admitted that he has “a ton of anxiety” about the son he expects this summer with girlfriend Katie Wright, and said that pregnancy lasts nine months because “wrapping your brain around the idea” takes a long time! “I am old,” he joked. “I was used to just being alone.” His older sisters were apparently used to that notion, as well. “They’re a little too excited,” he quipped. “They’d given up on me procreating.”

After thanking the audience for applauding his “successful insemination,” Hank said that Katie’s pregnancy has hit all the high — and low! — notes. “She has skipped no symptom,” Hank said. “I find it hilarious, fortunately. It’s really cute and funny and she’s very, very sweet.”

When host Bonnie Hunt revealed that her own mom craved coffee grounds while pregnant, Hank clarified that what she actually suffered from was pica, an eating disorder whereby women crave things of little or no nutritional value. Unfortunately, it is something Katie has also experienced! Adds Hank,

“The other day she was looking at the wood paneling, like, ‘I just really want to bite it. I kind of want to bite it.’ I was like, ‘Go ahead baby.’ It’s very very strange.”

Hank can currently be seen in Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian.

Hugh Jackman Lends Oscar a Hand

Humberto Carreno/Startraks

Need a hand? Hugh Jackman takes Oscar Maximillian, 9, out for a father-son day in New York City on Thursday.

The actor recently discussed his boy’s latest interest: girls!

“He’s already scoping the crowd for chicks,” Hugh laughs. “It’s unbelievable! The other day he said, ‘Dad, 2 o’clock, hot chick. Look, they’re hot aren’t they?’ They were about 14. Part of me is going, ‘Yeah, good on ya son!’ And part of me is like, ‘Oscar, they’re 14. I can’t comment on whether they’re hot or not!”
