Nancy O'Dell Was Never Taught the Basics of Breastfeeding

Richie Buxo/Splash News Online

Fear of the unknown — a common thread among expectant mamas — became a phrase that Nancy O’Dell learned all too well during her pregnancy! “There’s so much that happens that isn’t life-threatening but scares you!” she says in a new interview with American Baby. As a result, the Access Hollywood co-host has penned her first book Full of Life: Mom-to-Mom Tips I Wish Someone Had Told Me When I Was Pregnant, all in an effort to “demystify” the pregnancy process. Her inspiration? Fellow moms!

“I sent an e-mail to Halle Berry listing all the things I wished I’d known when I was pregnant.”

Once she delivered daughter Ashby Grace, turning 2 next month, the lack of information only seemed to continue. Struggling with the basics of breastfeeding, the frustrated mama quickly realized she had never been taught how to properly nurse. “I couldn’t figure out how to unlatch my baby!” she recalls. “Thank goodness someone showed me how to move the baby to the breast, not the breast to the baby.”

Fortunately, things improved after a few weeks of practice, as Nancy encourages women to stick it out. “It would’ve been helpful to know that nursing can feel so much better after three weeks,” she says.

Despite her difficulties, the 43-year-old proud mama relishes her role.

“Motherhood is in vogue right now, but it’s also simply the best thing ever!”

Ashby is Nancy’s first child with husband Keith Zubchevich.

Bryce Dallas Howard Plays Pregnant in Terminator

Jason Merritt/FilmMagic

Hollywood actresses often feel pressure to bounce back into shape after having a baby – but Bryce Dallas Howard was actually encouraged to keep on the baby weight.

Bryce had recently given birth to son Theodore ‘Theo’ Norman, now 2, when McG, the director of Terminator Salvation, offered her the role of Kate, the wife of the film’s hero John Connor, played by Christian Bale. “I had a pregnant body with no child in it,” she told PEOPLE at the movie’s Los Angeles premiere Thursday.

Bryce, 28, says she was offered the part over the phone, so wasn’t sure how to tell her director about her post-baby figure. “I was so excited, but then was just kind of waiting to tell him, ‘I’m not in great shape right now,’ ” she says. But when she did break the news to McG, “He said, ‘Oh, that’s okay. [Kate's] really pregnant. That’ll be even better.’”

While the actress — the daughter of director Ron Howard and wife of Dirty Sexy Money star Seth Gabel — didn’t have any action scenes, her body did begin to slim down on set – prompting her director to take desperate measures.

“Naturally just after a woman has a baby she starts to lose weight,” explains Bryce. “McG was throwing cookies at me the whole time, ‘You’re still eight months pregnant [in the film]! Be careful! Continuity!’”

Today, Bryce is back to her usual proportions thanks to “good old-fashioned diet and exercise, and homeopathy to help me get my hormones back in shape, because that goes crazy after you have a child,” she says.

Still, she wasn’t taking any chances at the Terminator Salvation premiere. Her snug, multicolored Mario Schwab dress showed off all her curves. “I felt like it was Spanx,” she says with a laugh. “I have a 2-year-old and I need something to just suck it all in!”

Terminator Salvation is in theaters Thursday.

Gilles and Juliana Marini to Undergo Surgery Together

Adrian Varnedoe/Pacific Coast News

Like father, like daughter! The old adage rings true for Dancing With the Stars finalist Gilles Marini and his 2 ½-year-old daughter Juliana. Gilles needs surgery in the near future to repair a separated shoulder he suffered during the reality show, and is getting nervous as his appointment with the surgeon approaches.

“As the procedure is “getting closer … I’m getting a little bit antsy,” the actor admits. “I’m like, ‘Ok, what’s going to happen?’” It turns out that Gilles’ nervousness isn’t only for himself — Juliana needs an undisclosed form of surgery herself, as well.

“My daughter needs a little surgery too, so we’re going to have one room. We’re having surgery the same day — that way we can actually stay together.”

Juliana is Gilles’ daughter with wife Carole. The pair are also parents to son Georges, 9 ½. Watch Gilles and his partner Cheryl Burke compete in the finals of Dancing With the Stars, starting tonight on ABC.
