Mia Hamm: Don't Call Me Supermom!

Michael Williams/Startraks

Going from no kids to two kids – at once! — has its advantages, soccer star Mia Hamm notes in the May issue of American Baby. “I’m not going to act like I’m this supermom because I have twins,” she says. “You go with it, and you make it work.”

“We always say we don’t know anything else; We’ve only had two, never one.”

Mia says that moms of multiples need to accept help when it is offered, however. “Even those five minutes to take a shower or to eat something sitting down as opposed to standing up — they’re vital for your energy,” she explains. What’s more, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. “It does get better every single day,” Mia, 37, notes. “It does get easier.”

Two-year-olds Grace Isabella and Ava Caroline may have shared a womb, but that’s all they have in common at this point! “One daughter wants to be with me more, but I have to make sure I spend enough quality time with each,” Mia reveals. “The other girl is pretty mellow and very independent, and I just want to make sure she understands that I love her and adore her just as much as the daughter who wants me to hold her all the time.”

Taking time out for herself is often difficult, and Mia seeks refuge in an unlikely place: Because it’s hard to find a shopping cart that will accommodate both girls, she tries to grocery shop by herself whenever possible. “Those are times for me to get away,” Mia says. Exercise remains a priority, as well, with Mia often working out after her babysitter arrives and the girls have settled in for the morning.

“It’s important to not feel guilty for taking those moments — in the end, it gives you more energy, and you’re better off.”

Describing the day she delivered the twins as the best day of her life, Mia is grateful for all that she has, and keeps the chaos of life with twins in perspective whenever possible. “Sometimes it’s too easy to get caught up in all the nonsense,” she admits. “In the car today, I looked back and they had chocolate all over them and I was like, ‘It’s really no big deal.’ You can clean them.”

“We have two really sweet and happy kids. For both me and my husband, that’s all that matters.”

Grace and Ava are Mia’s children with husband Nomar Garciaparra of the Oakland Athletics.

Maya Rudolph's 'Aggressive' Pregnancy Brain

Jeffrey Ufberg/WireImage

Pregnancy the second time around has been a breeze for Maya Rudolph, but the cravings are beginning to kick in! “I didn’t have any cravings or anything” with daughter Pearl Bailey, 3 ½, Maya revealed during a recent appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, “But I had this really weird experience where I was sitting up late, watching television, and all of a sudden my brain was like…’Hey. You awake?’”

“I said yeah…What do you want? ‘I know what you want. You want pumpkin bread.’ I’m sorry…What? Pumpkin bread? My brain was like, ‘Yeah, did I stutter?’ My brain is really aggressive.”

Maya went on to joke, “I don’t know when I’ve ever had pumpkin bread…do they sell it at Starbucks?’ Noting that “it’s not even October” and asking host Jimmy Fallon “isn’t that a seasonal loaf?,” Maya then posed the question to her baby-on-the-way. Looking down at her bump, she wondered,

“Why pumpkin loaf, buddy?”

Jimmy then joked that perhaps she could name the baby — a delivery surprise, and her second child with partner Paul Thomas Anderson — Pumpkin. “Aw,” Maya said. “That’s so cute.”

Maya and Paul’s second child is due this fall.

Teri Hatcher Celebrates Mother's Day at the Track

Joe Kohen/Getty

Just as she does every year, Teri Hatcher recently marked Mother’s Day at the racetrack alongside her own mom and her daughter Emerson Rose, 11. Construing their annual tradition as a lesson in mathematics for her daughter, Teri revealed during a recent appearance on Late Show with David Letterman that Emerson is already a pro. “This year she did all the winning,” Teri said. “My mom and dad spend a lot of time handicapping, and we all lost.” Emerson’s technique is fairly straightforward — she picks her horse based on its name — and on her first race of the day, she won $28.

“She starts with $100; That’s what we all play with…So I said, ‘You can quit now, and go home with $28. And she didn’t. By the end of the day she still had, like, $8. I said, ‘You spent the whole day losing $28.’”

A good time was had by all, however. “She rides horses, we have horses…I just think it’s beautiful,” Teri, 44, explains. “It’s a beautiful day. It’s kind of like the Kentucky Derby…It’s our little Los Angeles version of that.”

Emerson is Teri’s daughter with ex-husband Jon Tenney.

Infantino Bug Buddies Activity Mirror: EEK! BEDBUGS!

Infantino’s cute, new 2 In 1 Activity Mirror ($15) fastens easily to a crib or, thanks to an ingenious, fabric, easel-like back, it can prop up on the floor for tummy time. All the fasteners are short, fabric ties and there are no pieces that could entangle a little one.

My one year old son Egan loves the crinkly, rattly little bugs that dangle from it and, like all babies, he loves to see his face in the mirror. I like that it has no batteries but it still entertains him long enough for me to unload the dishwasher.
