Stephen Joseph Animal Wallets: In Funny Animals We Trust

Teaching kids to keep track of their money is a big deal, and Stephen Joseph’s kid-friendly nylon animal wallets ($8) are perfect for the job.

They come in 25 styles including a brand-new ladybug version. They fold into thirds and have numerous pockets for kids’ treasures. My son Finn loves the race car style.

Caught Caring: MD Moms and the Skin Cancer Foundation

It goes without saying that a maker of sunscreen products would care about the dangers posed by excessive exposure to the sun, but MD Moms puts its money where its mouth is. This month, it will donate 10% of its sales to the Skin Cancer Foundation in honor of National Skin Cancer Awareness month.

Philanthropy at MD Moms isn’t limited to May, however; Instead, a climate of giving back predominates twelve months a year. MD Moms designates a special children’s charity of the year to receive a portion of their proceeds from the sale of its Baby Silk products. In 2009, the beneficiary of that goodwill will be the Oscar Litwak Foundation, which brings mobile playrooms — easy to recognize, with their signature “flying kite” design – to bedridden children battling life-threatening diseases. So-named in honor of Oscar Litwak, who died of kidney cancer in 2003 at the age of four, the organization’s founders also refurbish and rehab pre-existing hospital playrooms in the hope of providing “refuge and comfort” to those little ones who need it the most. According to their mission statement,

“The flying kite represents the hopes and dreams of many children who spend countless hours in hospitals and treatment centers. Many wish nothing more than the opportunity to enjoy the beauty and simplicity of life, the freedom to play, the right to be a child.”

Ana Ortiz On Her 'Whole New Chapter' in Life

Robert Pitts/Landov

In the home stretch of her first pregnancy — she’s due the end of July with a baby girl — Ana Ortiz is relying heavily on her support system: her husband Noah Lebenzon and her mother. While the Ugly Betty actress and her mom have gotten a few laughs over the sex of the baby, joking that payback is sweet, Ana admits that sharing the experience has brought the pair much closer. “There’s somebody that I can go to and say, ‘Is this normal? Does this happen?’” she says of the proud soon-to-be grandmother.

“We’re on this plateau with one another and it’s just incredible.”

Despite her mother’s support, at the end of the day, Ana can always count on Noah to make that midnight ice-cream run! “Most, most, most of all, my husband has been incredibly supportive,” she gushes. Telling Us Weekly that “there’s no one I would rather be going through this with,” Ana reveals her favorite part of the pregnancy to be watching Noah marvel at his wife’s moving belly. “I love seeing my husband’s face every time [he] watches my stomach move,” she giggles. “You can see movement, it’s crazy!”

As she envisions the future together as a family of three, Ana has trouble listing all the special moments she is looking forward to with baby girl. “Seeing what this person looks like, what kind of personality she’ll have,” she says. Sharing that she is excited to watch her daughter “meeting my family” — Ana quickly corrects herself, adding, “her family” — she closes the interview by summing up what’s to come.

“I’m just looking forward to this whole new chapter of life.”
