Paris Bennett: I'm Motivated by Motherhood

Songstress Paris Bennett has learned a lot since her days on American Idol, but despite adding motherhood to her resume when she welcomed daughter Egypt, now 7 months, the 20-year-old skipped out on the lessons of hard labor! After feeling the baby moving around in her belly followed by some minor pain, the expectant mama went in early to her doctor’s appointment — only to find out that she was already 8 cm dilated. “I called my mom and the family rushed to the hospital,” she tells momlogic.

“I got to the hospital around 3:00 p.m. and Miss Egypt came at 3:36 p.m.”

In the months since her fast arrival, Egypt has not slowed down and makes sure she keeps her mama always on her toes! Calling her baby girl “very demanding and diva-ristic,” Paris shares that Egypt — who has become “picky about everything” — is not too fond of a dirty diaper. Fortunately, the proud mama has discovered the perfect remedy to keep her little princess peaceful! “I never knew that warm milk at night or wrapping your baby tight after a bath would really work,” she says, admitting she considered them both to be “old-school” myths. “It really does work! I give Egypt a bath at night, wrap her in a warm blanket, and give her a warm bottle and she’s out at night.”

Sending out a message to all the parents who find themselves struggling to juggle both a career and their family, a sympathetic Paris is quick to offer encouragement. “You can do it! Never let anyone tell you you can’t!” she urges. “Use your child for self-motivation.” With a blossoming music career, the singer is taking her own advice as she often looks to her daughter when she is in need of a boost. “I look at Egypt every day and think of the things I want her to do in life and everything I wouldn’t want her to want for,” she says.

Proving all the naysayers wrong, Paris is determined to be successful, both for herself and her child. “It takes time and a great deal of self-determination,” she explains of motherhood. With her thoughts turned toward the future, any struggles she is facing are overturned by her dream to make it to the finish line.

“I had my share of people saying I wouldn’t be able to have a career and a baby, but that just made me want it more. I added her into my lifestyle and I am going to keep going and prove them all wrong.”

Wow, Lucky! I really hope I could have an easy fast labor like that!!

Well, her labor does sound awesome. I had quick labor and deliveries with each of my four kids, but ironically, it was my fastest that was the worst! I woke up with my water broken in bed, and my daughter shot out of me within 40 minutes. 40 minutes of the most god-awful shocking pain I have ever experienced. My first was also natural, total of 2 hours, still hurt but nothing like my daughter. My other two were a couple of hours but I had an epi, and that was the way to go. Paris is beautiful, and I think she has a great attitude. Egypt is a pretty name.

i hear ya, crimpe. my daughter (my 2nd) was born less than an hour after my water broke at home with no real labor pains before it happened. what followed was an immensely painful car ride to the hospital that i can best describe as one big contraction. she arrived within 5 minutes of our arrival. it was quick but sooooo painful! i’m just really glad she wasn’t born in the car.

Although I do think you can have it all, personally I don’t think you can have it all at once. Just my opinion!
And goodness I wish I had her labor!! Lucky!

I love how she referred to the baby as “Miss Egypt”! :)

Hopefully she isn’t having the baby drink the bottle in the crib. She sounds like a very devoted mom : D
