While not the most safe name choice, I have to admit that Bandit Lee Way is a grower! When I first read the news this morning I thought ‘you’ve gottttttttt to be kidding me’ but now I feel its quite cute, full of mischief and whatnot bahaha.
Remember it is Gerard and Lindsay, they’re very arty and quirky…a safe name was never on the cards. I think the ‘Lee’ is a family name…his late grandmother was called Elena Lee Rush and his mother is called Donna Lee Way.
Bandit might be a comic book character that we just don’t know about!

Bandit is growing on me. If you forget the connotation and just say it aloud, it does have a nice sound to it. Whereas Apple has a sweet connotation but is not a pretty sounding word, imo. Bandit reminds me of Bridget or Ingrid, for some reason.

Once she gets married as an adult, she can always lose the “Way” at the end.

She could always use a nickname. Like Bandi? Or Di? I personally think the name is awesome, and would have loved to be named Bandit. How sweet is that? (Even though I’m not a fan of either bands) Personally, I don’t like normal names too much. They’re too boring for me.
My middle name is “Hines” from my grandaddy which is a male name and sounds like ketchup. Basically all I do is explain to people where the name came from. I’m not scarred for life and plus I have a myriad of cool symmetrical monogram choices with the initials SHM. So a name doesn’t scar one for life, it’s the way one perceives the name that scars them for life. Also, if Bandit decides to use a nickname, all her name will be is a verbal calling and a repeated line of cursive/print.

G!na, Mary-Helen may well be from somewhere other than the US. I had never even heard of this guys name (although I know the band). They aren’t “massive” worldwide in a sense that some other bands are. If Bandit *shudder* walked down the street here (UK) and said “It’s okay, I have a weird name, but my dad is Gerard Way”, it would more than likely provoke a response of “Who?”, and she would just be a kid with a weird name.

Also, plenty of musicians give their children names that are classically considered as names. For example, you have Steven Tyler (Liv, Mia, Chelsea, Taj), Jon Bon Jovi (Stephanie, Jesse, Jacob, Romeo) and Dave Grohl (Violet and Harper) to name only three. It’s very much each to their own, but being a musician or a celebrity is not really a good defense to playing with your kids name.

OMG! How come people are saying such bad things about her name? Isn’t it up to them exactly how they want to name their own child, if someone down your street wanted to call their child an unusual name, you wouldn’t even think about it. Anyway, my best friend’s dad is famous and she has a normal name and so do her twin siblings. No-one will judge her on her name anyway, they’ll judge her on the person she is, and if they don’t who cares about them anyway? I think it’s a great name personally, I would love to have been called Bandit. At least people will remember her name instead of if she was called a normal name, and it’ll make her more confident instead of fading into the wallpaper. I feel sorry for celebrities, they get judged on everything they do, including what they call their kids. I’m just so glad that they had her and yeh I really want to see pictures too. Hermione, since I am from the UK, I know we are not “unrelated” to the rest of the world. What a silly thing to say! The band is not ‘huge’ over here, like it seems to apparently be in the US. I still maintain, most people will not know who Gerard Way is. I spoke to my sister just after posting this and she works for a music magazine, and she tells me the same story. Some people know the band, but they don’t know the members. It’s not like (as I alluded to in the example before) saying “my dad is Jon Bon Jovi”. I’m sure this little girl will be loved and raised well, but if she gets teased for her name, I don’t think she’ll be able to use the “don’t you know who my dad is?” defense very effectively.

Hermione, you may want to have a quick read over my posts, since you are stretching my words to quite some length! It’s possible that you didn’t mean to, but I never said or even implied by any stretch that US bands are not known in the UK. And “everyone you know” is by no means a reason to jump on my post and be so defensive. The fact, and if course it’s wrong, is that kids are cruel. In a perfect world I could call my next baby ‘Turd McToilet’ and he or she wouldn’t get bullied, but that’s not how it works. Bandit probably will get teased for her name at some point, I think you’re being a little too optimistic and unrealistic to think that it won’t ever happen. It may not cross the line into full-on bullying, but I would eat my own hand if she gets through life without a joke coming up at her expense. I’m sure not everyone in the US knows who this band are either, that’s a bit of a stretch. Anyway, I’m not getting into this with you, I just don’t appreciate my words being twisted. Not only am I beyond stoked that she is finally here (I swear I knew it’d be a girl all along…the mental image of Gee playing tea party is too appealing) but I really LOVE the name Bandit Lee!

I mean for one thing we all know that Lee is both his mother’s (Donna Lee) and his grandmother’s (Elena Lee) middle name. It’s like a tradition. My guess is if they’d had a boy it would’ve been James. (Donald & Mikey’s middle name)

As far as the Bandit part goes, I think it’s cute. Sure it’s unconventional but common names are so ridiculous. I mean does the world REALLY need another Madison, Ashley, or Jennifer? I don’t think so.

I’m sure at some point in history those “popular” names were at one time frowned upon as well. I give them props for having the guts to give their little girl a name that turns heads but it also so friggin cute.

I’m no celeb but when I have kids you better believe they’re gonna have names similar to Bronx Wentz, Bandit Way, and (Keaton) Danger Lazzara. Normal is boring and I definitely don’t want my kid to be boring or just another face in the crowd.

hey when will people realise that it’s not a person’s name that makes them interesting? giving kids ridiculous names just set the child up for hassle their whole life. pretty selfish. parents just want others to their they are cool but don’t think ‘hey that’s pretty stupid for an actual real life person’s name!’ ashlee and pete wentz – yes that’s you i’m talking about!! and just ask dido! she always hated her mad name! i know you can call your kid whatever you want but my opinion is Bandit is something you say when you stub you toe or get a nasty papercut (i’m from scotland and my mum always used to say ‘ya bandit!’ when she wanted to swear lol!). It is not a name.

I think more folk should call their children ‘normal’ names like John and David. Just think, the future generations will have hardly any Daves or Jims and that is just weird!! lol! I’m a substitute teacher and I heard a diverse range of names and the kids like Pixie and Maverick were pretty popular. The kids that got picked on were Mike (fat), Kimmy and Jennifer (both fugly). Maybe it’s because so many posters are from an older generation where everyone was named Jennifer and Amanda, but kids today are really open about different names. There are a lot of children from Burmese here in Indy and they have names like Chin, Hong, Tin, Bung, and so on. No one gives them trouble for it. Little black girls named T’Eshana and La’Toneshaque don’t get hassled either.

Maybe the other posters live in very white areas and have no experience with diversity so a kid with a strange name would get picked on? Indy isn’t the most diverse place, but Bandit, Bronx, Zuma, and Apple would do fine here, assuming they aren’t fugly. Ugly and fat will get you picked on way more than a quirky name. That never changes.

I get that you like the name, and that’s fine, but I completely disagree with your reasoning. Bandit is just wince-inducing. I’m sorry that you got bullied, I truly am, but I would’ve thought that would lead you to see where I and others are coming from. This name will make her statisically more likely to be given a hard time because children who are perceived to be different in any way will be singled out. Is that fair or right? Of course not, but if you figure out a way to stop that from happening, please let me know. I still won’t be giving my next child a ridiculour moniker like this though.

The name Bandit expresses a very specific lifestyle and strong expection from the parents. IMO opinion, a more “normal”/ neutral name actually gives a child much more freedom to develop their own personality. Ofcourse, when I was a teenager I hated my normal name and wished my parents named me Pixie Aurora or something. But now I’m very happy with a name that doesn’t cause strong reactions when I’m introduce myself to a potential employer or colleague, boyfriend etc.

When i heard that the baby arrived i screamed. then i saw the name and screamed louder. I live in Canada, but what I mean is that MCR isn’t nearly as huge as say Angelina Jolie who could kind of get away with giving her kid an eccentric name. I had some friends a few years back with very indifferent names.
Such as Fey Phoenix, and Tuesdai.
They were never ripped on for their names,
but my brother on the other hand has the name Christopher.
“Pisstopher” was just one of the insults.

HOWEVER, i wish people would think, a child is not ‘yours’ solely… they are people who will have their own lives… stamping your own personality onto your child with a name is as unfair as influencing their life choices or moulding their personalities…
i just wish people would think, my best friend just called her son Zan Clancy, and i want to support her and try not to judge.. but i can’t help but feel so sorry for my godson..

People say that Zuma is weird because it’s a place name….But so is Kingston (Kingston is a place in Jamica) and no one says that’s a weird name! Maybe when you throw Nesta Rock in there it’s a bit odd, but it sure beats Peanut, Audio Science, or Moon Unit!

Same with Bronx Mowgli. Okay, so Bronx Wentz doesn’t exactly flow the best, but then neither do a lot of names.

Okay.. I personally like the name. Its mischievious(sp?) and unique. and her middle name Lee is in honor of Gerard’s late grandmother Elena Lee. But don’t think they tried to blend her middle and last name, cause Lee is a family name (Gerards gran, and his mom both have that middle name) and she just got landed with the last name Way. I personally am a very big fan of both parents, met Gerard twice, Lindsey once, and of course knowing them you can’t possibly be expecting something bland loke “elizabeth” “anna” or “emily”

I’m so happy and excited for them!! The first MCR baby!! I love her name. I think it’s cute and different. I found this post, ironically, when I was searching the name Bandit, Which I saw under a baby name site (nameberry.com) and found it to be terribly neat.

I find it incredibly disturbing how passionatly people are adverse to naming a human anything but straight-laced common name all for the sake of the child not getting the shit kicked out of them on the playground.

You all were young once? Usually it was the kid too small and easy to take advantage of that took the beating. I grew up around alot of kids with weird names and never saw them get much shit. However Dan that didnt bathe or Jennifer who was 340223 pounds over weight. they got all the attention.

Raising your children to automatically have negative responses to the unfamiliar.. like you all are doing here, are the ones with these asshole kids beating up on other kids which is just funny since you people are the ones petitioning for this poor little ones esteem when they are younger.

Ask any effin 5 year old what he WISHES his name was and he will say something like T-rex Von Frankenstien… So Im fairly sure YOU are the close minded retards with the problems. not the bullys you will be soon raising.

Another thing is how much reverence you put into a name for a “person” but hardly ever put alot of meaning or thought into. Clearly by all the Jennifer Ann’s and John Edwards, naming your baby is not something your doing for them either. so don’t be a hipocrite.

I don’t know why everyone is making such a big deal over this little girl getting teased as a child, because kids with “normal” names get made fun of, too. My name got plenty of Charlotte’s Web references, and as much as I disliked being compared with a spider, I wasn’t scarred for life or anything. It’s a part of growing up.
Personally, I think Bandit is a very cute name. It’s mischievous and playful.
