Sarah Jessica Parker Tackles the Tough Questions

Bruce Glikas/FilmMagic

For soon-to-be mom-of-three Sarah Jessica Parker, the birds and the bees are a topic that is best discussed at home! “I just feel there’s a time and a place,” she explains in the April issue of Ladies Home Journal. Unfortunately, her 6 ½-year-old son James Wilkie hasn’t gotten that memo; During a recent cab ride he asked, ”How does a man get the seed into the lady?” Sarah Jessica recalled. “I got so embarrassed.”

Although she stops short of characterizing herself as an old-fashioned mom, Sarah Jessica says that she’s definitely a different parent than husband Matthew Broderick.

“I might be pretty structured and Matthew might not be. I might believe in a set bedtime and no movies during the week.”

Their contrasting styles are a good thing for James, however, Sarah Jessica feels. “I think the last thing James Wilkie needs is two people like me,” she adds. “He thinks Matthew hung the moon, and I’m thrilled.”

Young children are so comfortable with just about any subject, but they have a knack for picking some interesting times to bring up the “interesting” topics…James Wilkie is no different! LOL! I can’t wait to see the little girls and to hear their names!

Does he get called by his full name “James Wilke” then, instead of only his first name?

- Leah on

Leah, I’ve heard her call him both. And somewhere, I think I read that they call him just “Wilke”.

To me, he will always be Jim Willie.

I didnt know that they call him James Wilkie as a whole name. I just assumed that Wilkie was a middle name or some sort of family name that they just shoved in his name to keep a relative happy! Wilkie isnt even a name!!

Since Mom seems to be referred to as Sarah Jessica it doesn’t surprise me that she calls him James Wilkie.

From my own experience I’ve determined that children were put on this earth to embarrass their parents. :) It keeps us grounded.

Snow – James was named after Matthew Broderick’s father, the actor James Broderick. His middle name is after the author Wilkie Collins that Sarah and Matthew admire and wanted to honour (his name was actually William Wilkie Collins, but he went by Wilkie).

A three year old where I work yesterday when I helped him change his diaper: “Ena (I’m Helena), my dad has a BIG PENIS.”

Or from another time, with another child, during lunch: “My dad lies on top of my mom and tickles her. They think I’m sleeping.
:D

The “tickles” & “They think I’m sleeping” cracked me up! Kids!

Ha love the words that come from innoncent babes. At my nephews house the other day and he has recently got into wrestling so like to wrestle with his dad on the bed before the bath. He said “Auntie Beth can you strip to your pants (I’m from the UK so he meant my briefs) and wrestle with daddy on the bed too”. Bless!

Hea- ROFLOL! That last one especially cracks me up. If those parents knew that their child was basically watching them do, well, THAT….well, I can only imagine how mortified they’d feel!

i love that phrase ‘hung the moon’ – my baby certainly thinks her daddy hung the moon, especially for her… x
