Parminder Nagra Welcomes Son Kai David Singh

Jill Johnson/JPI

It’s a boy for Parminder Nagra and James Stenson! The former ER actress and her husband welcomed their first child — son Kai David Singh Stenson — on Tuesday, May 19th, her rep reveals to Us Weekly. While no further birth details have been released, the rep says,

“Mother, daddy, and baby are all doing great.”

The pregnancy had been announced in December. In March Parminder shared that her husband took full responsibility for the baby shower, while she was still marveling at the wonders of pregnancy! “It’s hard to get your head around until it actually happens to you,” she said at the time.

The name Kai went through a trend about five or so years ago in the UK (and yes, it’s pronounced like ‘hi’). I’m not massively keen on it personally, but it does go well with the surname. Congrats to the family!

Congratulations, Parminder and Jason! I loved you as Neela on “ER”, and I couldn’t be happier for you! I’m sure Kai is adorable and I can hardly wait to see a picture of him! Congrats again on your bundle of joy!!!

Kai means dark ocean in Hawaiian and rejoice in Celtic.

This is my boyfreind’s name and until i met him, i’d never heard it before. Now i seem to be hearing it more and more. It’s a powerful name with good meaning.

Only annoying bit seems to be people who will call him Kyle by mistake. My BF get’s this at least twice a week .

Kai means ocean also in Japanese. Such a beautiful name!
Congratulations!

- Leah on

I’m a Native Hawaiian and I can tell you that Kai means THE SEA, not dark ocean. Hawaiians have a different word for ocean. If you want to get technical Kai literally means “Salt Water” and Wai means “Fresh Water” in ‘olelo Hawai’i (Hawaiian language).

It is just insane to me how many people are using this name.

LOVE the name and I can’t wait to see pics, with his parents this little man is going to be GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!!!!

Kai David Singh has a nice little ring to it! Congrats to Parminder and James on their little baby boy. :)

Congrats, liked her on ER and in Bend it like Beckham movie years ago. Cute name, flows well, although here in NZ in our native Maori culture Kai is Maori for food, so there’s always a diff meaning in diff parts of the world, lol…
