Kingston Rossdale Rocks a New 'Do!

Splash News Online

After officially kicking off the No Doubt tour in Las Vegas, Gwen Stefani — who clearly passed on her fashionable genes — arrives at Los Angeles International Airport on Sunday.

Accompanied by bandmate Tony Kanal, the family nannies, and sons Zuma Nesta Rock, 9 months, and Kingston James McGregor, 3 next week, we couldn’t help but notice that Gwen got her oldest boy a haircut — Kingston was rockin’ a long mohawk!

Dad is Gavin Rossdale, who’s currently out on tour himself, playing St. Petersburg, Fla. tonight.

Whoa Kingston’s hair!! LOL I wanna see a close up of that new style :D

- Natasha on

I’m not usually one to judge but it looks as though she dyed his hair. That seems a bit excessive for a 3 yr old.

- morgan on

Did they dye his hair?. i know its blonde but that does not look natural

- Liz on

I really hope she didn’t dye his hair. Hopefully, it’s just some spray in stuff that’s harmless. EVERYONE knows you don’t dye a child’s hair, don’t they?

- Brandy on

Zuma is cute. Don’t know what to say about Kingstons new haircut.

- Jes on

Oh wow, JustNouDoubt has small, blurry ones and the sides of his head are shaved, too!

- Ryo on

Hmmm I’m not sure I’m a fan of the new hair. But if Kingston likes it, I guess that is all that matters! And he is a cutie otherwise :-)

- Laura on

Who cares? He’s 3 and she’s Gwen. Color is fine as long as it’s not bleach. I like that she’s passing her creativity and expressiveness down to her children.

- michelle on

well….i usually find gwen great and beautiful, as well as her kids but i don’t know why this picture scream trash trash trash to me! lol
i think it’s kingston haircut and gwen outfit :) not my cup of tea i would say, but i’m not a popstar so….by the way, zuma is a cutie!

- daze on

Yeah, that hair is really sad…what’s also sad is going on tour with 2 babies under 3. JMO.

- SH on

Oh my. My son had massive amounts of hair so we gave him a mohawk at 2 1/2. This, though…it’s all a bit WT. One does not achieve that color without peroxide. But I bet Kingston loves it!

- crimpe on

Wow, I’m really not a fan of his hair! And I think it is terrible to color a small child’s hair…hair dye is full of chemicals and totally ruins your hair.
I don’t see why they feel the need to do that to a 3 year old, Kingston is so adorable naturally…Weird..

- Y on

Can’t deny he looks cute & like a lil rocker.. but def not my thing.. coloring my 3 yr old’s hair!! Temporary or not!
Zuma is so cute!

- Jae on

How is what she and the kids wearing fashionable?? Just my opinion.

- Katie on

SH, why is it sad to go on tour with 2 children under 3? Both parents are pop/rockstars and obviously, they are hands on parents and rather than leaving their children with nannies, they wanted to bring them on tour. I personally am glad they did it.

Britney Spears took her two boys on tour with her recently and no one said it was sad…everyone said it was good cause it gave her a chance to be with her boys. Such a double standard.

PS: I love Kingston’s hair. Chances are, that was his decision after seeing mommy’s different hair. Besides, he’s so young…this is the chance to do fun stuff with their hair!

- Robyn on

He’s a cute little guy, regardless, but I prefer his other hair. This mohawk isn’t working, sorry. :)

- FC on

From this picture, I can’t really see his new hairdo that well so I can’t tell if I like it or not yet. I really don’t think they dyed his hair, though. If you look at other pictures of him, you can see that he clearly has natural highlights that are very blonde. It is possible that the lighting mixed with his natural highlights makes it look like they dyed his hair. Until we can see some better pictures of his hair, I wouldn’t jump to conclusions about his hair being dyed (although, I guess it is possible).

- Hilary on

Kingston’s hair, Gwen’s entire outfit-trash, trash, TRASH. I do not know of anyone else who would dare leave the house in those pants.

- Lauren on

I’m actually quite disappointed she’s done that to Kings’ hair. He had such lovely locks .. but then again it’s her kid, so it’s up to her.
I’ve seen some other pictures of the hair ‘do on the side and it has been all shaven off and it has been dyed blond. No way that kid has such light hair.

- Pippa on

I remember getting my hair to look that color with sun in and a hair dryer. So It could be from that, or the actual sun. His natural hair color had highlights. Those pants are more distracting that the hair. I feel bad for Kingston because he seems to really hate the paparazzi.

- laura on

Maddox rocked a blue mohawk for a LOOONG time and I didn’t hear any complaints. What’s the dif?

- Sarah on

It looks like Kingston used the same dye as Tony (behind him) did! In any case they are a rock star family and I guess are expected to be on the odd side. But what I can’t stand is the paci in a three year olds mouth!! Also I see they stopped at Hudson News- I had about a million of those bags cause my boyfriend works at the airport- the cashier gave me a weird look when I went there and returned them all one day.

- Cortney on

There were a lot of complaints over Maddox’s blue mohawk actually.

- PJ on

I don’t really like it but it doesn’t look dyed to me – his hair was this same color last summer as well and with all the time he spends outside I’d bet his hair bleaches really blond in the sun like my sister’s did. Here’s a pic from May 08:

http://i43.tinypic.com/300h2yu.jpg

- Ryo on

This seems like a publicity stunt for her new tour. I don’t like it at all, if that’s the intent.

- Chris on

Also why is that one lady wearing a gold fanny pack- the whole group minus the baby is a fashion crisis!

- Cortney on

He’s just a little guy, he looked fine the way he was before.

I’ve always hates when people dye little kid hair and their pets. Go redo your own hair if you need to style something so desperately, or go get one of those barbie heads you can style and put makeup on and play with her hair every night.

- J on

“Who cares? He’s 3 and she’s Gwen. Color is fine as long as it’s not bleach. I like that she’s passing her creativity and expressiveness down to her children.”
——

Thank you michelle, voice of reason.

I don’t know why people always automatically have to assume the worst. Hair colouring does not necessarily equal hair dye and bleach. There are other ways to safely colour hair and I’m sure Gwen and Gavin are well aware of them. To assume otherwise is silly. There was exactly the same argument with Maddox and Pax Jolie-Pitt.

Personally, I like to see creative, extravagent personalities in kids. Kids should be taught that it’s okay to be different. It’s okay to have a crazy hair style. It’s okay to colour your hair. We should be embracing creativity and expression, not rejecting it.

- Amanda on

gwen & king both look AWESOME.

- maribeth on

I LOVE his hair! And I don’t think it looks colored. Considering their usual fashion/hair/accessory choices, I think if Gwen were going to color her child’s hair, she would do a way over the top color, not just another shade of blonde. Kingston could so rock out some blue hair! I loved Maddox’s blue mohawk back in the day.

Either way, I dig it.

- Niki on

How is giving your kid a new hair do a publicity stunt? That doesn’t make sense to me. I think he probably just wanted a cool new ‘do :-)

- katie on

I’m sorry, but it’s not right. Teaching a 3 year old that their darker hair color and normal style isn’t adequate enough so it MUST be platinum blond like everyone else’s and “rocker” to sufficiently display the family’s lifestyle? IMO, teenagers ONLY should be allowed to experiment, but only when they have shown that they are fully comfortable with their natural selves, and are not doing it out of insecurity. I think this is only going to foster insecurity in the boys with their natural looks and that’s not healthy.

- Jess on

Just one more comment… how do we know that Gwen FORCED this on her son? Kingston probably sees all of mommy and daddy’s friends with “different” hair and may have wanted to get it. Nothing wrong with that. I honestly don’t think it will foster insecurities at three years of age.

- Niki on

The Jolie-Pitt kids constantly have their hair dyed and people here don’t even comment. He’s their son and they can dye his hair if they want to. So what if you wouldn’t do it? Maybe Gwen wouldn’t do half of the things that you do as a parent either. Nobody is right or wrong.

- Andrea_momof2 on

Fashionable genes? They all look so trashy to me.
Zuma is probably the cutest baby I’ve ever seen though.

- Sarah on

Some of you are really pathetic. It is none of your buisness what Gwen does to HER child’s hair. And to call Gwen “trash” is really uncalled for. The number of catty and judgement remarks about Gwen and her son is disgusting. Grow up people.

- lily on

Poor kid, that does not look like a mohawk, it looks more like a I-just-rolled-out-of-bed, do’ Looks like she has been bleaching his hair just like hers, pretty sad. She’s exploiting them.

- Marisela Velasco on

I really don’t care what she does to his hair. They are celebs, they live in a different world. My parent’s were rather strict, I wasn’t allowed to color my hair or do anything that could be considered “out of the norm” until I was 16. I haven’t been as strict about these issues with my son, but I would not have dyed his hair at 3. But coming from Gwen it doesn’t seem that strange to me.

Curious though, I’m surprised she needs more than one nanny with just the two boys…again, a different world. =)

- gargoylegurl on

Just saw a bigger picture, and yes Kingston’s hair is definetly dyed. And the sides of his head are shaved, too.
I know that the parents are popstars and all and they desperately want their kids to look cool but I think that doing that to a 3 year old child’s hair is a bit excessive.

- Sarah on

The Jolie-Pitt kids don’t have constantly their hair dyed, only Maddox and Pax for a couple of weeks last summer and there were a lot of complaints over it ;-)
So what it’s Gwen and Gavins kid and he’s a Cutie!

- Jes on

Count me in the this is not a big deal category. It’s hair. It’s not a tatoo. It isn’t pierced ears on a two month old (which is think is way worse). And their outfits? Love. They’re a rock and roll family. Nobody gets bent out of shape when lawyers dress like lawyers and put their kids in kakhi’s and news boy caps!

- Lauren on

Zuma’s outfit is the only one I like in this picture!
Kingston looks uncomfortable and rushed.

- Valerie on

It’s a rocker look for a rock band tour. It doesn’t surprise me that Gwen and Gavin did it, nor would it surprise me if Kingston requested it – the crazy rock star look is part of his world! It’s only hair. It will grow and be cut dozens of different ways in life, and right now – it fits his lifestyle. I would not begin to cast doubt on the parenting abilities of Gwen & Gavin over something like a haircut… when we see Kingston drinking a beer with his arms around some groupie on the tour… then well, we can start the conversation then :)

- Mrs. R. on

Robyn, to answer your question, I happen to to think that 2 babies don’t belong on the road with rock bands. How about stay home and raise your kids instead of dragging them here there and everywhere in that environment with people constantly in their face. Like I said, JUST MY OPINION.

- SH on

i can deal with everything except the jean shorts. but nobody asked me.

- brannon on

And I want to add that while that may be Gwen’s calling – touring and being a rock star – it may not be her childrens. I think it’s disrespectful of her to automatically make them into rockstars as well with their clothes and hair. Hopefully Kingston won’t look back on pictures of his 3rd birthday and cringe. What irks me is how people write “oh, he’s a fashionista too” – no, it’s Gwen dressing him. He’s not even 3.

- SH on

My daughter was sporting a similar do an hour ago, of course, she had pulled out her pigtails lol! But we still took a bunch of pics of her crazy hair.

I don’t see it as a big deal. I personally wouldn’t dye my kids hair, but that’s just me (then again, most women would kill for my youngest’s platinum hair haha). However, it’s really not a big deal. Hair grows back. I think he looks adorably silly!

- Mary-Helen on

Jes, I’m pretty sure their hair has been dyed more than once. I’ll kiss your feet if I’m wrong but I remember Maddox’s being dyed quite a few times. And with peroxide just like everyone’s is saying Kingston’s is.

- Andrea_momof2 on

My son has a mohawk and it is dyed red while the sides are black. He is 11 and he has had his hair dyed and cut funky since he started asking for it at 7.

Nothing about it hurts him. It is his way of expressing himself and it makes him happy.

It is NOT a big deal.

- tigerjen77 on

LOLOL! I love it!!! there is nothing wrong with letting him have his hair like that if he wants it…It doesn’t hurt ANYONE.

Personally my hair has streaks of dark purple in it and I am a very conservative up tight Republican…LOL. But I am also a very creative person and a jewelry designer. Believe me, my sales are up and everyone who sees it smiles and its a great way to start a convo. My husband works for a halry dealership and he did his naturally dark brown hair with flames. The top had red, orange and yellow. People LOVED it…Even old people…LOL

OPur kids think its cool that everyone knows them because of thier dads hair. So this summer they asked to color their hair. So we are letting them each do 1 strip of 1 color of their choice. No big deal…it doesnt hurt anyone and it lets them be creative and confident.

- Courtney on

I should add my kids are 5, 6 and 8.

I totally agree with you!!!!!! People need to grow up….I think some of these comments are trashy….

SH…..Why don’t you do what’s best for you and your family. I don’t think Gwen is doing anything wrong by taking her kids on tour……Wait……the magic word is her kids, not yours…..

- lala2 on

im not sure if i like it..or the color maybe..his natural hair was cuter

- cas on

lala2,

I AM doing what’s best for me and my family. I disagree with you, the magic word is MY OPINION.

- SH on

what type of shoes is Gwen wearing? anybody know?

- momto3 on

I prefer his old hairstyle/color, however…. like many have said, he’s not my kid! He probably just wanted to have some fun and Gwen was willing to go along with it. I find the comments about how Gwen is teaching him that his old hair “isn’t good enough” really ridiculous… Just because they decided to have some fun and switch Kingston’s look up does not mean she is teaching him that he’s not adequate the way he is naturally.

- alice jane on

Wow Gwens upper body looks amazing, so does her legs but look at those arms. wowza.

I am 19 and have never dyed my hair, to scared too. I personally wouldn’t dye my childrens hair at such a young age but thats just me. If its what Kingston wanted, was safe and Gwen and Gavin were happy about it then there is no problem.

About them being on tour, I see no problem with it. Shooter Jennings was very excited about taking Alabama on tour with him becuase he said he loved growing up on the road with his dad, Waylon.

- Sammy-xx on

i really dont like kingston’s new style…. but is their problem, is gwen’s son and if she loves it and he loves it thats all they need…. little zuma everyday gets more and more beautiful!

- camille on

Aww man Kingston was the only little boy that I liked with somewhat long hair. It always looked tamed and really stylish and this….oh boy not a favorite of mine and to me it def. looks a lot lighter. Not sure if it’s the light/sun or hair color but I really hope it’s just the lighting!

- JMO on

I should add that I grew up with a mother as a hairdresser. She really was great about letting my brother and I express ourselves how we wanted but with REASON. She wouldn’t let us do anything drastic but every other month I swear my brother had a new phase of hair and by the time I was 11 I was dying my hair. Truly it’s no different then giving your little girl a perm or putting a hair piece on for a dance competition. It all comes out eventually! My mom also pierced my ears at 6 months and let me have a second hole at age 8 *gasp* My brother also had his one ear pierced when he was like 8 as well. By the time I was 14 she let me get a tattoo and a few piercings. My mom always said, “well there is worst things that you could be doing and if this is the least of my worries then I’m happy to allow it!” – At the end of the day the new hairstyles, piercings, tattoo’s didn’t change who we were. We just were all about creative expression!

However with that all being said I do believe you should allow your child to express themselves how they want when they’re old enough to decide they want to. At 3 I really don’t think Kingston said, “hey ma shave my hair on the sides, put in a mohawk and give me some low lights!” I am sure this was more about what they wanted to do with his hair and at the end of the day it’s their kid and there are no laws that say you can’t mohawk his head and dye it blonde. Like I said, it isn’t the end of the world but I think I liked him the way he was. JMO

- JMO on

One of the girls in my 5 yr olds class had two red streaks put in her brown hair by a family friend who was a hairdresser and now all the little kids want them! I hated Kingstons hair before, on aesthetic grounds, and this is a marginal improvement, even if it looks a bit trying too hard IMO. Kingston is such a skinny slip of a boy it looks a bit funny ie dorky white boy acting tough…but I have no problem with anyone dyeing their kids hair.

- fuschia on

Check out the arms on that kid! The picture makes him look like he’s got major muscle! Cute hair too, very Rossdale-Stefani.

- marie on

I think Kingston’s hair is C-U-T-E!

I have 9 year old twin boys that have had mohawks since they were 2. When given the choice to cut their hair I got a horrified “NO!” from both of them! During the summer they are allowed to color their hair with Manic Panic and have a lot of fun with that (they have very light hair so no bleach is involved). You wouldn’t believe the number of perfect strangers that have felt the need to share their negative opinions of me over that! :P

- Nixx on

lala2,
Please remember that everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Just because you don’t agree with them doesn’t mean they are wrong. THAT is the grown up thing to do.

- Jenn on

In my opinion, I really hate Kingston’s new hair! It looks so messy & unkept! I’m pretty sure he had his hair colored! He’s hair was never that blonde! If Gwen likes it that all that matters! However, I loved the way maddox had his hair mohawked! It was done nicer! just my humble opinion! Kingston’s looks so messy!

- g!na on

Ok I’ve weighed in already. But to be fair, I must agree that this is a family deal. There is absolutely nothing wrong, in my opinion, with giving the kid a fun style. It is hair, it grows back. Yeah, I think it is a bit trying-too-hard, and maybe it is harder for a skinny white toddler to pull off. My kid had more in common with Maddox, looks-wise. BUT, Kingston might be walking into some major wind, hence the messiness. And I agree that Gwen’s body is amazing! They are in the public eye, we love this site and love to air our opinions. I think Gwen and Gavin can take it!

- crimpe on

ok, i feel bad to say i don’t like Kingston’s hair! It caught me by surprise! I just think it was a extreme from his other look! I just think a mohawk done a little cleaner like Maddox’s is nicer! AS long as little Kingston likes it that all that matters! Gwen is awesome and i love NO Doubt♥ ♥

- g!na on

He was much cuter before im very dissapointed :(

- ellie on

My goodness! Out on tour? Didn’t Gwen get the memo that she’s a momma now and she’s supposed to be at home, barefoot and shackled to the stove, eternally stirring a pot and gettin ready to crank out another youngin? How dare she think about her career and do what makes her happy? Why has she even left the house! For shame.

Go Gwen! Please keep LIVING and not just existing.

- Josie on

What’s wrong with her pants? My 14yr. old daughter has those! Then again, how old is Gwen?! It’s the shoes that are mismatched.

I’m not a big fan of mohawk’s on any kid. Looks like some sort of dye to me, pics I’ve seen have not shown highlights that bright and light. Each to his own I guess.

- Denise on

I don’t think there is anything wrong with allowing a kid to express him/herself. My nephew wore his older sister’s cheerleading outfit to school for a while. He LOVED it! Some cultures pierce their children’s noses at a young age. I don’t think the way he wears his hair or even dying it is bad. My problem is when parents start letting their kids dress WAY too old for their age (you know the little 10 year old girls you see in the mall with plucked eyebrows, tight pants that say “Juicy” on the bottom). Let your kid be a kid (mohawk included).

Gwen looks adorable!

- txgal on

Not keen on the hair but my question is how did they get a 3y old to sit that long in the to cut, dye it (if it has been dyed)and style it?????

I chase my daughter round the bedroom with the hairbrush and hairdryer!

- sarah in the UK on

It’s hair people LOL who cares as long as the kid is happy and healthy. ( I agree about the chemicals though, but if it’s a safe form of dye, then so what?)
Sometimes people fuss over something so small.
Personally I LOVE little boys with mohawks. It gives them personality and a certain ‘funkiness’

- kate on

I don’t like Kingston’s mohawk, it doesn’t even look like one BUT if he is happy with it and his family are too, then that is all that matters. (And Gwen’s shoes aren’t very nice either) but I do have to say holding Zuma brightens up her outfit :P

- babyboopie on

I’m not keen on the hair but seriously that is just hair! There’s no big deal with this hair do (though it does bother that his hair is dyed…). It’s definitely not like he had a tattoo or something…

- Corinne on

I’d say HATE IT, but this is the offspring of two rockers…so it fits him just fine!

- Danielle on

I love his hair, my little boy would love to have his hair like that but it’s school that won’t allow it… what bothers me, is that Kingston has still got a dummy and he’s nearly 3.

- Ess on

I’m sorta surprised that CBB would even ask such a question, especially when people can say some pretty hurtful things about this child’s hairstyle. Quite disappointed to say the least.

Love it or Hate it is a regular PEOPLE StyleWatch feature, and we were asked to run the poll on CBB instead as it is a better fit here.

- CBB Staff

- L.J. on

Okay, I don’t see a binky in Kingston’s mouth. I think it’s just his lips. As for the hair…I agree with the people who have said that it’s just hair, and as long as the dye isn’t toxic, there’s really no harm in it. Also, for the record, dye does NOT ruin hair if you use it properly. My mother used to dye her hair a lot (she stopped because she was tired of messing with it and tired of being ashamed of having gray hair!)…and her hair is none the worse for the wear! In fact, you can’t even tell that she ever dyed her hair!

- CelebBabyLover on

his hair probably was lightened by sun…love the mohawk but its just a little tooo long. Would be cuter if it was about 2-3 inches shorter. One of my sons wanted a mohawk (mainly so people would stop getting him confused with his identical twin brother!) and i let him have it….it was summer, wasnt in school, and its hair…it does grow!! he would “color” it blue with blue hair gel. I guess the thing that bothers me the most is that stupid NUK!! hes 3!! throw it away!!!!!!

- katrina on

his hair rocks!!!– much love lil rocker (L)

- Jax on

what the heck did she do!!!!! his curls were adorable!

- bella on

Katrina- He doesn’t have a Nuk in this picture (in the picture from yesterday he does, though). Other than that, I agree with you about his hair being lightened by the sun. My brown hair used to turn almost blonde in the summer from the sun when I was a kid!

- CelebBabyLover on

That just seems so cruel lol! Maybe when boys are much older and can make the decision for themselves, but I feel like the world is laughing at him and he doesn’t know it…is his hair colored? I always thought he had the most beautiful hair color, perfect mix of both of them!

- Emaline on

first of love the hair love the family
and i have to say thank you to alot of people here!
you crack me up!!
it seems some of you people have realy strange ways of looking at the world… like gwen forsing her kid to get a haircut.. making him dress a sertan way and o my o my how dare she take her kids with her on tour she’s a mum now she should lock herself inside her home her life is over and she must only breath on for her children
as a child psycologist i can tell you kids love to be creative and dont get hurt by these types of haircuts! the haircuts they hate and stricked parents forse on them are the ones that stay with them in a negative way… the haircuts that are fun and cool will be remembered with a smile!
plus kids will only be happy when there family is happy… so if for gav. and gwen touring is the thing that makes them bloom! it will give there kids the massage “you can do what you want follow your dreams”
maybe one or two (or more) of you should take notes of the rossdale family! who knows you might learn something

- tish on

I actually think it looks very cute, however, I just don’t think you’re sending your child the right message about self-esteem by suggesting they change their natural looks this young. It’s just so artificial and a little cheesy.

- Jenny on

This would be very odd on a “normal” kid, but on a rocker’s kid…i don’t see the harm. it’s not like she dyed his hair. But why is he still sporting a paci?!?! (See other photos)

- LC on

I love it! Kingston is by far the cutest celeb kid! the new do fits his style! Way to go Gwen!
