KidCards: Kid-Crafted Greetings Mean The Most

05/17/2009 at 09:00 AM ET

I’m a stickler for thank-you cards and I think kids should make their own as soon as they’re big enough. KidCards Coloring Cards (20 cards for $15) are one of those, “Why didn’t I think of that?” products. It’s a spiral-bound book of 20 cards for every occasion, plus 20 envelopes.

The cards feature simple designs that make it easy to say, “Happy birthday!” or “Get well soon!” and show off the kids’ artwork. Each card is perforated so it tears neatly and scored for a nice fold and kids can decorate them however they want. My mom thinks my kids’ artworks are true masterpieces, and for 75 cents apiece, they’re much more affordable than mass-produced cards from the drugstore.

Although this is nice, it’s more like a coloring book. I think when kids make their own cards, pictures it means more. There are other card kits where kids can be more creative and decorate with different things.

Looks as though this version is for a younger child… website shows another book that has cards with more space to be creative/decorate

Hello! This is Melissa Marra, creator & developer of KidCards. The last posting is exactly right! These cards shown in the review are meant for a younger child that is really only able to color. We also offer a volume for older children called “FreeHand Drawing Frames.” This version is more of an “outline” that kids can use to make a card. Each card cover leaves ample space for their own creativity and decorations. Check it out at: http://www.kidcards.org/4.html

Mom Said It

"It helps that other moms had said that once they had their babies, they forgot they were ever pregnant. So once my focus became the baby and not the pregnancy, it was a very easy decision."
