For actress Eileen Davidson, the best parenting advice came in the form of watching her own mother. Her mom, Charlotte, showed her that you have to allow “your child to make mistakes,” The Young and the Restless star explains. “She had seven kids and watched them go through trials and tribulations.” Using her own move to Los Angeles as an example, Eileen shares that Charlotte’s “hair turned gray, but she was still supportive of what I did, even though it was freaking her out!”
Eileen even finds herself repeating stock phrases that her mom used to say to her sons Duke, Flea and Jesse Thomas, 5 ½. “I’m always like, ‘I can’t believe I sound like my mother.’”
“I remember running out of the house telling, ‘Put your shoes on or you’re going to get sick!’ That’s an old wives’ tale, but it’s like some weird mind control that I would be like that.”
With Mother’s Day just having passed, Eileen, 49, reflects on the best gift she’s given to her own mom — wall-to-wall carpeting! “She loved it,” Eileen laughs. Her mom isn’t the only one who likes simple gifts — Eileen’s own favorite Mother’s Day was last year, when her husband [actor Vince Van Patten] fixed her breakfast in bed and she received cards from Jesse and her stepsons.
Eileen and Vince, 51, have been married since 2003. Duke and Flea are Vince’s sons from a previous marriage. Vince is a celebrity baby himself— he is the son of actor Dick Van Patten.
