Melania Trump: Barron is a Trilingual Toddler

If there was any doubt that Barron William Trump would live up to his father’s great accomplishments in life, let the toddler speak for himself — literally! While attending the MET Gala event, Donald Trump and his wife Melania Knauss Trump stopped to talk to reporters and the proud mama couldn’t help but gush about her “delicious” little boy. “He’s very special, he talks nonstop,” she says.

“He talks three languages. He speaks my language — Slovenian — English and French.”

With the 3-year-old set to start school in September, Melania admits that she often contemplates having a second child. However, after her two boys — Donald and Barron — she jokes that her hands are quite full! “I never say never to more children, but I have two — I have a big boy and my little baby,” she shares.

I’m a bit jealous…I really wanted my children to speak another language, but I never got my act together to learn one myself. My new plan is to try to learn alongside them when they start foreign language in elementary school. Wish me luck!

What are you talking about ‘somebody from Slovakia’? Melania is from Slovenia and therefore speaks Slovenian!

I’ve been wondering about that and it’s great that she’s taught Barron Slovenian. Generally Slavic languages are very hard for English speakers to learn latter in life, particularly the pronunciation.

I’m pretty sure though, that Melania taught him Slovenian because to be honest her English isn’t very good. So it’s probably easier that she talks to him in a language she is fluent in.

Well,it’s always nice when people teach their children their native languages.I come from Bulgaria and I’ve taught all of my kids to speak it fluently.And a few months ago we hired a French spoken nanny to look after the children while my husband and I are away.

Where I live it’s really not uncommon to see 10 year old kids speak at least 3 if not 4 languages ;o) it opens up many doors when you’re adult!

Sanja- To be honest, I was a little confused at first, too. Then I remembered that there IS a country called Slovenia, and vaguely remember hearing that Melania is from there. I think that, because Slovenia is not a very well-known country and the name sounds so similar to Slovakia, people tend to get confused a lot when they hear someone saying things like “I speak slovenian”.

As for how “a person from Slovakia” mistakenly thought Melania was actually referring to the Czech language…Well, since the Czech Republic and Slovakia were joined as one country (Czechoslovakia, obviously) until New Years’ Day of 1993, people tend to forget that they are now, in fact, two seperate countries with two seperate languages (obviously “a person from Slovakia” probably knows that. S/he was probably referring to the fact that Melania may have gotten confused).

For that matter, they had seperate languages even when they were one country (but it’s understandable that a lot of foreginers wouldn’t know that. I didn’t really know that myself until I met someone who is now a very close friend of mine and happens to be Czech. ), but I digress.

I am from Slovenia too. I hate when people think that we are from Slovakia or from Czech republic.
I agree that we are VERY small but we have beautiful country and we are proud of it. Everybody must see our country.

I’m quite proud that she taught him Slovene..as sanja already said it’s very difficult to learn slavic languages..
I must admit that I somehow didn’t expect she will teach him our language but now I see I was mistaken..great job:)

Well, if you are Slovenian, there is no other way than to learn other languages like english, spanish, italian, german, croatian, hungarian, french and other. We live in Europe and there is no way that if I would go to Rome Italian would understand me speaking slovenian language, well they also don`t understand english, so you must learn italian langugage if you want to speak to Italian people. The same thing with French people… Interesting thing is, that no body wants to learn slovenian to speak slovenian with Slovenian people, lazy asses.
