Peek… Aren't You Curious: Spring and Summer Duds California Style

Taj Mahal Tee and Plaid Longboard Shorts

Peek… Aren’t You Curious ($15-78) is a San Francisco brand of stylin’ kids’ clothing with a cool vibe. Peek has eight boutiques, six in California, one in Texas and one in Arizona, and everything from their house brand is available online.

Spring and summer 2009 brings tons of funky tees ($34) for boys with the Taj Mahal, the Parthenon or the Kremlin on the front. They come in crisp, bright colors with white lettering. The back reads “See The World.” My 3 1/2-year-old son chose the blue India shirt and paired it with their preppy, Plaid Longboard Shorts ($38) for a cute but not-quite-matched outfit.

For girls, I’m loving the Suzy Shirt Dress ($88). The fabric is a modern paisley print that would look darling over white pants or leggings if it’s not quite warm enough for bare legs just yet. It’s expensive but may just be worth it for a special occasion, especially considering that it can be worn as a top or a dress. If preppy’s not your thing, the Celia Tunic Top ($25) may appeal to moms and daughters who are into the hippie-chic thing.

Peek… Aren’t You Curious has a dedicated celebrity following including Uma Thurman, Kate Beckinsale and Camila Alves, probably because the chic aesthetic helps famous little ones pull off “California Casual” with ease.

Mom Said It

"I had to make a decision that I could sleep with every night. I did feel responsible for the young girls who I probably confused and let down. I apologize for that. But I wasn't trying to glamorize teen pregnancy."
