Constantly photographed out and about with their 9-month-old son Levi, Matthew McConaughey and his girlfriend Camila Alves always seem unfazed by the pursuing paparazzi, often offering a small smile or a quick wave. In a recent interview with Ryan Seacrest, the 39-year-old actor reveals that he refuses to stop living his life as a result of his celebrity status. “You can either stay inside and stay away from them … or you can get out, live your life [knowing] sometimes you’re going to get documented,” he says.

Make no mistake, however — the photographers have been forewarned by the protective papa!

“I just say, ‘Guys, law says you can … take pictures [and] I’m not changing the law right now, but do not make any lewd comments to my lady or get up in my child’s face to scare him at all because that’s crossing the line.’ So far, they’ve been respectful of that. [Levi] doesn’t know what the heck is going on and doesn’t know why these flashing lights are in [his] face, and as long as they’re considerate with Camila, we’ll deal with it.”

That said, Matthew gushes to PARADE that his son is quite the happy baby boy; Elated with fatherhood, he can’t help but “get a kick out of making [Levi] laugh,” a game that has become frequent for the father-son duo. “You get more foolish really quickly and you’ll do anything to get a smile from him,” Matthew explains.

Ghosts of Girlfriends Past is now in theaters.

I like that! “No lewd comments to my lady” and don’t scare the baby: He put them on alert. They know what he means and I think they also know that he wouldn’t have any problem “handling his business.” Excellent quote.

Good on him. That’s a very realistic approach to the chaos that can sometimes be created by the papp’s. He’s absolutely on target about them needing to respect that his lady is a lady and that his son is a child. If they want a picture all they have to do is say your name and not be overly invasive.

I love the way you ALWAYS see him with Camila and Levi. He isn’t away from them too long. I think with a career that has you traveling all the time and that can be a real time suck it is great he has create a space in his life for them. I also think it says a lot about other celeb dads that I think this is such a rare and amazing thing. I love this family. Too cute 🙂

What a cute little family they are. I love how protective he is, and I’m sure the pap’s know he wouldn’t have any problems “protecting” them if they got out of line.

Even thought I like to look at Peoples site, I think the paparazzi are horrible leaches and there needs to be laws stopping them from horrassing celebraties.

The problem between the paps and Matthew is that many of the photographers working today (X17 in particular) only have wide-angle lens and do not even own a zoom or telephoto lens—hence they have to get closer to the celebrity to get their shots.
The closest I get to a celebrity is about 20 or 30 feet away using a 70-200mm lens. I use a 300mm lens if I need to give the celebrity some space.
Also, many of the paps I see in the field today lack the basic common sense to do their job. Ninety percent of them have no idea what photography is all about.

I love how he refers to Camilla as “his lady”, it’s just such a gentlemanly phrase!

He seems to have set some guidelines and that’s nice.
