Jennifer Lopez On Her Babbling Babies: 'Mama When They Want Something!'

Roger Wong/INF

Watch out! Little Maximilian ‘Max’ David is on the move, says his mom Jennifer Lopez. With the 14-month-old up and running, the proud mama reveals that his fraternal twin sister Emme Maribel prefers to take things slow. “Emme is a little bit more careful about not falling,” says Jennifer during a recent appearance on Good Morning America.

Although the dynamic duo is, for the most part, sticking to baby babbling, the songstress laughs that the two already have a favorite word among their limited vocabulary and it isn’t mama!

“There’s dada, there’s mama. Mama when they want something, dada just for fun all the time — yeah it’s awful!”

Completing her first triathlon only six months after the birth of the twins, Jennifer looks back on the experience and takes extreme pride in all of her hard work. The decision to participate, she says, was an easy one. “I just felt like I needed to do something to regain myself back again because when you have babies, your body becomes kind of a temple for the babies,” she explains. “I just felt like I needed to feel like Jennifer again.” Fortunately for the new mama, her husband Marc Anthony supported her completely, although he took the opportunity to playfully poke fun at his wife’s strong inner drive.

“Of course, true fashion, like Marc says, [I] don’t go for the simple thing, [I] go for, like, the crazy thing that I’ve never done. Actually, it was really great for me, not just physically, but emotionally and mentally just to get me back thinking about achieving again and doing things again.”

The pregnancy was announced in September. In November, Anna admitted that she had trouble adjusting to being pregnant both onscreen and off. “I forget when we cut that I’m still pregnant when I walk away!” she said. “It’s very weird in my head because you’re thinking in pretend when you’re acting.”

Sophie Ellis-Bextor Opens Up About Kit's 'Traumatic' Birth

Eliot Press/Bauer Griffin

Although she delivered her first son — Sonny, 5  — by emergency C-section due to pre-eclampsia, Sophie Ellis-Bextor says she was caught off-guard when earlier this year she again developed the life threatening condition, this time during her pregnancy with son Kit Valentine, 11-weeks. In fact, the 30-year-old songstress blogs for Shloer sparkling water that she discovered her medical emergency “almost … by accident.” Scheduled to play a gig in Moscow, a 31-weeks-pregnant Sophie visited with her consultant to obtain a note granting her permission her to fly; It soon became apparent that travel was out of the question, however. “She was concerned as I was displaying some classic signs of pre-eclampsia; mainly very high blood pressure and swollen ankles — very glamorous,” Sophie recalls. “She told me I wasn’t going anywhere, not even out of my house, and was sent home to rest.”

Informed that she would be lucky to carry her son for even one more week, the dire prediction proved to be prophetic, for Kit was born just six days later. Sophie and her husband Richard Jones were unable to hold their new son at first, for baby boy was confined to an incubator. Although she’d already been through such a scenario with Sonny, Sophie said the experience was “traumatic” nonetheless.

“Richard and I got through it by telling ourselves that if Kit wasn’t in hospital then I’d still be pregnant with him. Knowing there wasn’t any way that he’d be home with us no matter how things had gone made it easier so we just tried to go with the slight feeling of limbo and tried to be patient as he started to get well enough to come home.”

Given his unexpected early arrival the couple “didn’t have anything ready” for Kit, but his five-week hospital stay gave them plenty of time to “get things sorted,” and they even ”managed to have the nursery ready by the time he came home,” Sophie says. Kit and Sonny share an “uncanny” resemblance to one another, down to their red hair, and Sophie admits that neither boy take after their mom. Noting that her sons “are going to look so sweet running around together,” she adds:

“Although it’s still very new, we just love him being around and he is really enjoying finding out what it is to be part of our family and the world that he is now a part of.”

Kathy Ireland: Not Afraid To Stop The Car!

Roger Karnbad/Celebrity Photo

Many parents have threatened to pull the car over and make the squabbling siblings in the back seat get out, but not all will follow through. Kathy Ireland isn’t afraid to make good on the threat, however! The 46-year-old model and author recalls driving down the freeway with Erik, 14, Lily, 10 and Chloe, 6, when a fight broke out. “It was very distracting,” she tells Cookie. “My ugly mad-mom voice came out!”

“I had to get off the freeway, find a safe place to pull over, and make everybody get out of the car and sit on the curb. I stood in front of them to block the traffic, while I let them work it out.”

Although the kids were late for school, Kathy feels it was worth it in the long run. “They stayed there until there were sincere apologies and forgiveness all around.” That said, Kathy says her role in the family is not good cop nor bad. “As their mother, it’s my responsibility to love them, protect them, teach them and discipline them,” she explains.

Listing bedtime as her favorite family activity, Kathy admits it’s a “lengthy process,” but it’s also one she enjoys. First up is a bath for Chloe, and then the family — including Kathy’s husband Dr. Greg Olson — moves on to brushing teeth and completing their evening chores. “I love telling stories to our kids,” Kathy says. “My children’s books all came from family bedtime stories.”

“I read three books to Chloe, followed by a made-up story, a prayer, and a song. Then I read with Lily, our 10-year old…Lily plays guitar and sings some songs. Our oldest son, Erik, is 14. I spend some time with him, talking about our days and learning what is on his mind and in his heart.”

Her willingness to take her time is as beneficial for Kathy as it is for the kids. She says that “their honest perspectives on life, their carefree joy, their quick wits, and their great senses of humor,” are what make her laugh.
