do you have a professional assistant/nurse who monitors or does things for sophie’s condition or do you do everything yourselves?

i just had twin preemies so the process of keeping everything clean and sterile is mandatory. have you ever run into any issues with that, coupled with the fact of having another child or with sophie touching or pulling at any of the devices she needs?

i wish your family nothing but the best with your future endeavors and work with foundations.

I also wonder about distributing attention and time among siblings. Its hard to find time for a healthy child when his or her sibling is in constant need of attention and affection. ]]> By: Mary http://celebritybabies.people.com/2009/04/30/have-a-question-for-boris-kodjoe-and-nicole-ari-parker/#comment-105912 Fri, 01 May 2009 06:11:03 +0000 http://celebrity-babies.com/?p=45339#comment-105912 i guess i have more of a rhetorical question/comment. in the beginning, it felt like they were ‘hiding’ their daughter’s condition. almost like it was shameful. and i couldn’t for the life of me figure out why they didn’t discuss it for what it was. it was a random birth defect that happened, through no fault of their own. and being a fan of both of theirs, i remember hearing about ‘surgeries’ little Sophie would have as a baby. but it was never discussed as something the more serious and complicated condition we now know it to be. the situation was played down. and now they have this great foundation, dedicated to helping their daughter and others like her with the same defect. perhaps maybe early on they weren’t quite ready to discuss it publicly and they were still dealing with the reality of the situation on a personal level. which is fine and makes perfect sense. in any case, i commend them for doing whatever they can to help their daughter. she should never feel ashamed about her defect. if anything, i think kids who deal with these types of things learn to be tenacious early on, and they seem to have this mature spirit about them.

What schools are you looking at for her? Will she be able to attend the same school as your other child? Where I live most private schools do not have elevators to accommodate a child in a wheelchair in the lower grades but the upper campus high schools can. Public schools are equipt. Its such a hard decision.Do you face that to?

How do they strike the balance of attention given to a child with serious health issues, and one who is basically healthy? I have a dear friend whose oldest son is in and out of the hospital with a hereditary disease that (thankfully) their second son didn’t inherit. But my friend and her husband run themselves ragged to make sure the second son doesn’t feel neglected or overshadowed. Any advice?

I am impressed with how they have so gracefully handled the challenges their beautiful daughter faces. I am thrilled they are bringing awareness to Spina Bifida. Also, I fell in love with them as a fan of Soul Food. I sat on the floor, in front of my TV, and watched Teri and Damon get married. I cried, as if I was attending a wedding of someone I knew. I was beyond thrilled to find out they were an actual couple, they were expecting a baby, and getting married. They are one of the most gorgeous families around – inside and out.
