Have a Question for Soledad O'Brien?

Bennett Raglin/Getty

CNN Special Investigations Unit host Soledad O’Brien is a busy woman — in addition to her duties as a news anchor, the 42-year-old is also a mother of four! As mom to Sofia Elizabeth, 8 ½, Cecilia, 7, and twins Charlie and Jackson, 4 ½, balancing it all can be tough — Soleded recently said “the craziness of a career balances the craziness of family life!”

We’ll be speaking to Soledad about motherhood and her work with TrueChild, a national organization helping all children reach their full potential. They’re kicking off their second annual True Flavors Celebrity Cook-off at The Institute of Culinary Education in NYC on Friday, featuring a faceoff between Soledad and MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski, who are both mothers passionate about TrueChild’s messages.

We’d love to include your questions for Soledad! Please leave them below.

Hi Soledad-

I’m curious to know how you balance the demands of traveling overseas for broadcasts with being a mom to four young children? Do you choose not to travel to certain areas that are dangerous for journalists for fear that something may happen to you and your children may lose their mother?

Also, what is your opinion on children watching the news? Do your kids watch and stay aware of current events, or do you try to shield them from the news until they are older?

I’m a reporter for a DC radio station, so imo, you rock! Keep up the great work!

Hey soledad,

Being biracial, do you make an effort to involve your children in their afro-latino roots?

I thought Ms. O’Brian did a fantastic job on the recent CNN story about the last days of Martin Luther Kind Jr., and I’d just like to ask how it was for her personally to visit the sites of some of his important events and interview people who knew and worked with him.
Thanks!
Sasha

whoops, King, not Kind!

My children are very close in age…I have girls that are 8, 6 1/2 and 5 1/2. I have a son that is nearly 2.

I like to believe that I am open and honest with my girls about things such as gay marriage, racism, and other hot button topics. Since you are in the media and report on these things, do your daughters ever ask you questions that you are not comfortable with and how do you answer them?

Also, is there anything special that you do to keep your kids connected to you as you travel? I travel 3 days a week and strive to make sure they realize that they are loved and not forgotten but I am always looking for more ideas on staying connected to them.

Ok, 1 more. Have you ever missed something at school for your child and how do you explain it to them?
