Ana Ortiz: Pregnancy Made Me Psychic!

Brad Barket/Getty

Since becoming pregnant with her first child – due the end of July – Ugly Betty star Ana Ortiz has gained something unexpected: psychic powers!

“Before I found out I was having a girl I dreamt that I was having a girl,” Ana, 38, told PEOPLE at the Point Honors gala in New York City Monday. “I even dreamt what her name was, so I guess that name should be her real name.”

While Ana remained mum on the baby’s name – except for joking, “It’s going to be Watermelon” — she did say, “We have a short list, but when we see her, hopefully, one of those names will fit. I’m hoping at least for a Latina flavor to it. But we’ll see.”

The first time mom – the dad is Ana’s husband, musician Noah Lebenzon – is most looking forward to meeting her daughter.

“I can’t wait to see who she looks like, my husband or me. I think she is going to look like my husband. I’m really excited to see how she looks like. Also I want to see my mom as a grandmother. So it’s going to be fun,” says Ana.

When it comes to shedding her baby weight, “I’m not going to lie,” says Ana. “I’m immediately going to try to get back into shape. We start work [on Ugly Betty] two weeks after I give birth. The pregnancy was not written in the show, so I wish I could be cool and let nature take its course, but no, I’m definitely going to try to get into shape.”

Ana plans to combine old-fashioned and modern techniques to mix up her post-pregnancy workouts. “They say breastfeeding helps, so I’m going to be doing that, but there is this thing called The Belly Bandit and apparently that is supposed to help, but I’m going to pull out all the stops.”

She looks FABULOUS!!

She is so tiny…she looks adorable! I cant wait to hear (or read) what they name their daughter.

When I was pregnant with my daughter, EVERYONE I would see, family, friends and even strangers at the mall would tell me “you are having a boy’ so I really thought I was having a boy, but then I had a dream that I had a girl and that I named her —– and bought all these pink clothes…I was only 2-3 months at the time, I kept dreaming of a girl but I was so sure I was having a boy (I think since everyone told me I ‘looked’ like I was having a boy I believed it), I went for my ultrasound at around 6 months, and the doctor told me, ‘Congratulations you are having a baby GIRL’ I was in shocked and so happy…I had a few names ready, but when she was born, she was clearly a —– the same name I dreamt about.

So weird huh?

I dreamt I was having a girl named Adela, but I had a boy…not named Adela. lol. But, I have several friends who got the name of their child in a dream. One of my friends said he felt that was his daughter’s way of naming herself.

I feel bad for Ana that she has such pressure to get back into shape early. Your body needs time to rest after birth and you need at least some extra calories while breastfeeding…

If that picture is anything to go by there won’t be much baby weight to lose anyway! O_o

She looks fabulous. Better than a lot of non pregnant women, her belly is so high!

I just love some of the dreams that I had about my daughter while I was pregnant. I knew for years before I even considered getting pregnant that my first child was going to be a girl. And when I found out I was pregnant, there was no convincing me otherwise and referred to the baby as “she” from the start. Everyone around me felt the same way.. when we announced our pregnancy, everybody’s reaction was “It’s a girl!”

The first time I heard her name, I knew that’s what she was meant to be. Almost like she named herself, because I had names from when I was younger what I was going to name my children, and none of them fit. I also used to dream that she had my eyes and my husband’s nose, and sure enough I was right. I was due May 28 and guessed that she would be born May 18 or 19th.. and she was actually born May 17. Sometimes there’s no stopping a mother’s intuition.

Is it just me that finds the comment about breastfeeding just so she can lose baby weight kinda sad for baby?

Poor kid, mommy just wants to look good. It’s not about you!

I saw these pictures on Imnotobessed yesterday when I was on the phone to my mum, I gasped in amazement. She looks unbelievable. She has the cutest bump I have ever seen, no contest.
I wonder if the tan is from her babymoon?

Just as we got our BFP (big fat positive on a home pregnancy test!) – I *knew* it was a girl, and a name popped into my head. It’s stuck since – and we found out we are expecting a girl in our 18 week scan :) She arrives any day now! There’s no other name we have in mind for her, and it’s not a name i’ve had before being pregnant. Strange!

She looks AMAZING!!!

burnice- Uh, you’re twisting Ana’s words. She never said that she’s breastfeeding ONLY to lose weight, just that it’s one of the things she’s going to do to lose weight. I’m sure she’s going to breastfeed for the baby’s sake as well.

- CelebBabyLover on

I don’t think the reasoning behind breastfeeding matters as long as you breastfeed. The baby is getting the nutrients she needs so it doesn’t matter that momma is trying to get back into her Ugly Betty wardrobe(which is very form fitting for Ana). She’s doing it so lets just be happy for her and leave it at that. I’m sure her daughter isn’t going to come back and be like I can’t believe you only breastfed me to get your figure back. People love to nitpick. GOOD-LUCK Ana!! You look BEAUTIFUL!!!

At least she’s being honest. I’m sure it’s the same with other celebrities, they just don’t admit it.

She’s stunning in that dress, baby and all! And I wonder if she’s onto something about dreaming of the baby and the sex it’ll be. If so, my dreams sure have me on the right track…:)

- FC on

what difference does it make why she’s breastfeeding? she’s giving her child nutrients and in the process it’s good for her body too. get a grip

- jessie on

My mom also had a dream about me while pregnant. She didn’t find out the sex ahead of time, but she had a dream that she would have a girl with brown hair and blue eyes. She didn’t even pick a boy name because she was so certain. (Fortunately, she was right!)
