Roger Federer: 'No Clue' What to Name Son

Jon Furniss/WireImage

Now happily ensconced in wedded bliss, tennis ace Roger Federer and his new bride Mirka can attend to the business at hand — choosing a name for their baby-on-the-way — which is a boy, Roger reveals! Speaking at a press conference in Monte Carlo, Roger admitted that it’s a daunting task. “You know, we’ll see,” he mused. “There’s quite a few books around that are that thick, so we’ll see where it takes us.”

“But, no, we haven’t decided anything yet. I have no clue right now myself. Thank God we have time left to decide.”

Speaking of their wedding day, while it was quickly assembled it wasn’t exactly unplanned, either. “We’ve been talking about it for many years now,” the 27-year-old former World No. 1 reveals. “Basically 95% of the people we invited could come, so they changed their schedules around for us.”

“Everything really worked out really well for us, otherwise we would have waited and done it maybe one month down the road, or maybe one year down the road. But everything worked out for this last weekend.”

Roger and Mirka’s son — the first child for both — is due this summer.

How crazy would it be if their son would foray into men’s tennis?
Can’t wait to know what they do name him. I’ve got Phillipe in my head, it sounds very european.

So they rushed into the marriage because they didn’t want their child to be illegitimate? I know that it’s a personal choice and I’m not criticising them for bringing the marriage forward, but I would wait until after the baby was born so that I could properly plan and enjoy the day, without being pregnant. Besides, everyone is going to know that the baby was conceived before they were married so does it make a huge difference? My parents married after my brother and I were born (and we were both planned babies, they never intended to be married when we were born) and nobody I know ever gives it a second thought.

But anyway, I’m glad they had a great day and I hope they have a happy, healthy baby.

I wonder whether they will use Czech names for their son? :-)

She is Slovak, not Czech

Rushed into marriage? Quite the opposite … They’ve been together for almost a decade! It was more a case of them finally getting around to it.

It really doesn’t matter what people say. Whichever way they do it, people have something to say. It is Roger and Mirka’s life anyway. What matters is that they are happy together.

For you Roger and Mirka, have a great life together. Keep your focus to what is important to you: everything else is seconday.

Here’s some samples of names: Stephen Joseph or James Wyatt. Maybe their dad’s or grandfather’s names? Just saying..
