With my first, I gained 18 pounds, exercised and ate right (didn’t stop me from having high blood pressure!). I was back in my pre-preggo jeans five days after giving birth. With my second, I gained and gained and gained. I was miserable. And I’m still waiting to get back into pre-pregnancy jeans…a year and half later!

I have to say that with my first pregnancy I really went to town with the extra calories and finding excuses not to exercise just because “I thought I could”. I gained 60 lbs and didn’t feel that great during the pregnancy and had a hard time losing it afterwards. With my 2nd and 3rd pregnancies I ate a really healthy balanced diet ( no more donut elevenses and ice cream every night!), exercised moderately and gained 25-30 lbs each time–had way less nausea, swelling and niggles during the pregnancy and had nothing to worry about weight-loss wise after the baby was born. My advice to first time moms is “don’t use pregnancy as an excuse to pig out”–it really benefits no one.
