Devon - Okay. I live in Scandinavia where, I suppose babies are generally a bit bigger than in some other places around the globe. I've read somewhere that Scandinavian people are considered quite tall. Not all of us but some of us. :-) I'm 5'8, for example.

The reason I'm asking though is that I recently saw a documentary series from an American maternity and delivery ward and they induce and perform c-sections almost every time on that show, which is supposed to be very real and reflect true regular births. Anyway, a baby weighing almost 8 Ibs was considered BIIIG. And he was born by a woman who looked to be quite big. But then again, big doesn't mean tall... 8 Ibs in Sweden is just your average baby and they seemed to think the little guy was huge.

That's the reason why I'm asking about this. No judging involved, I'm just curious to know. :-)

Love the name Jasper. It was the name of our first baby -- our dog! :) After we named him, I felt kind of sad that I didn't save it for a future son's name.

Also, my second child (a son) was 9lbs 14oz (3 days EARLY!) and the delivery was faster and easier than it was with my 8.5-pound daughter -- no stitches even! I'm only 5'2" so I think it all depends on your pelvis. Of course the doctors had no idea my son would be that big, maybe they would have encouraged a C-section if they knew? And there is no way I'm going for a third child. Don't want to be on the local news next time with a 15-pound baby! :)

I was just wondering about the C-section, because like Kimberly, I was very tiny before having my first son and he was also overdue. They induced me because they had determined that he was over 8 lbs and if I waited any longe to have him, I may need a C-section. This also happened to a close friend of mine. She was overdue and the Dr's thought the baby was too big to deliver vaginally so she had a C-section. I think sometimes when it is your first baby (in my case it was) you just do what the Dr says.
