Matthew McConaughey: Jose Cuervo Was Not an Option

John Calabrese/Gaz Shirley/Pacific Coast News

With Brazilian-born Camila Alves giving birth to her first child in Los Angeles, it was important to have a feeling of home in the delivery room. The sense of familiarity for the 26-year-old came in the form of music, with her partner Matthew McConaughey in charge of the playlist. While the actor admits that Camila was the one who had requested the tribal tunes, her strong contractions — lasting 14 hours — certainly kept Matthew on his toes! “Oh [your partner will] snap,” he tells Elle.

“She was also really quick to say, ‘Skip that f–kin’ song!’ So here I was blazing through this playlist while she’s nodding her head yay or nay, and I’m like, ‘This next song better have that groove or I’m going to have to run across the bed and change it.’”

Following a labor to be remembered, the happy couple welcomed their son Levi, now 9 months. Despite speculations early in the pregnancy about their name choice, Matthew shares that the two “wouldn’t dare compete” with his brother Rooster, who famously named his son Miller Lyte. “Like calling [our baby] Jose Cuervo?” jokes Matthew. “[Rooster's] got a daughter coming, and I think her name is going to be Margarita. I’m serious.”

OMG!! how funny!! Matthew’s brother is so funny

I have an aunt and her name is Margarita…we call her Maggie though

All right all right all right.

Eh, McConaughey can’t really do wrong in my book. He interviews about how he wants to die like his dad (apparently, having sex), he plays bongos naked, he takes treks with his family — this is a guy who made more money than he’ll ever need, and unlike most of the population, I think he’s actually satisfied with what he’s got and happy to just coast from here on in.

Rooster, Miller, Margarita… They’re just icing at this point. Nice to see an unfazed, unfazeable celebrity.

I don’t think Margarita is just a drink name, like XOXO said :)

But good for Matt and Camila haha, Levi is a much better name than Jose Cuervo :P

I like parents with a sense of humor.

I happen to really like the name Jack Daniel thank you very much! And Samuel Adam ain’t bad either *wink*

J/K — I do however intend to name my first dog “Kahlua”… so there :O)

I think no matter what Matthew had chosen to name his son, he would still be just as beautiful… and there are still far worse names in the world than just about any alcoholic beverage I can come up with… except for maybe Pabst Blue Ribbon.

My mother in laws name is Margarita. Its a family name.

Margarita is a common spanish (latin) name…so i don’t find it weird, well maybe in the U.S.A is strange, but not in latin america (or Italy which is Margherita)
btw, Margarita is a flower name, Daisy in english.

I don’t think Margarita is a weird name, I think Rooster is a weird name!!

I’m so glad that Matthew didn’t follow in his brother’s naming tradition. LOL! FYI, Matthew’s brother isn’t really named Rooster. It’s his nickname, his real name is Michael. :)

Obviously he is not implying that Margarita is a weird or unusual name. He is just stating that his brother named his son after an alcoholic beverage and is probably going to name his daughter after one as well. It is the brothers reasons for choosing the name that is unusual, not the name itself.

I love Matthew and I think him as a dad makes me fall in love with him even more. He’s great. :)

Rachel my sis has two Dachshunds named Kahlua and SoCo…my dad’s Dachshunds are Corona and Cabo Wabo :) I promise we aren’t all alcoholics!

Are Rooster and his wife really pregnant?

Margarita’s a common and pretty traditional name, no more out there than Margaret. I knew a girl in my Spanish classes who picked Margarita as her Spanish name.
