Tori Spelling and Family Launch 'Mommywood'

04/15/2009 at 12:30 PM ET

Dean McDermott and children Liam Aaron, 2 and Stella Doreen, 10 months, help mom Tori Spelling celebrate the launch of her latest book, Mommywood, at Bond St. Beverly Hills on Wednesday. The actress, whose weight loss CBB readers have noticed, assures PEOPLE that she’s “not anorexic.”

“I acknowledge that I look thin in photos. I get it,” she says about the 40 lbs. she’s lost since delivering Stella last June. “Obviously I don’t want to lose any more weight, but people haven’t seen me not pregnant in two and a half years. I’m eating healthy, I just have a crazy lifestyle. I’m the first to admit that sometimes I don’t have the time to sit down for a well-balanced meal. Usually you kind of just finish whatever your child doesn’t eat. I’m like, ‘Cool, you have a few pieces of hot dog left and one broccoli floret and a fry, I’ll take it.’”

“I want to be a positive role-model for my daughter,” Tori continues. “The last thing I want to put out there is that it’s acceptable to be too thin or have an eating disorder because you’re in Hollywood. I have two kids that I need to be healthy for because they need their mom.”

Liam wears Blume Forever Striped Tie Tee ($62) paired with Converse All Star High Tops in Black ($26), while Stella wears Cach Cach’s Rosette Headband ($19) and Bubble Romper ($65) — available here in pink — paired with Stride Rite’s NMS Nicolette in Black ($50).

Stella is just too cute! (And I’m not one to normally say this, but I really don’t like that colour lipstick on her! I think she should go for more pink tones!)Cute dress though!

Kayla on

“I look thin in photos” All I see are bones and breast implants. I hope for her kids sake she puts on at least 10lbs. She is a pretty woman. Maybe try those weight gain shakes from GNC.

gianna on

Liam and stella are so cute, and look a lot alike. Stella looks exactly like dean though, while liam is a bit more spelling looking, but both so cute and bare a strong resemblance to each other.

anne on

i like this family n luv the green but she looks awful.she looks like a 11yr old and dean and the kids look healthy.dnt mean to sound mean or rude buther shoulders look wider than her body.glad she realises shes 2 thin.

Felicia on

I’m smitten with Stella’s dress!

That’s great that Tori is addressing the weight loss issue. I understand she has a busy life and this is the first time she hasn’t been pregnant in a while.

BUT she is still too thin. Period. She needs to make the time to eat if that is the real issue. She is right about her kids needing a healthy mom and she does not look healthy. She needs to make eating a priority. It’s important. She can afford to have meals packed and sent to her and have someone watch the kids while she eats them.

Emily on

Your bones don’t start sticking out like that unless you live in a Third World country and you’re malnourished due to poverty… or unless you have an eating disorder. It’s a slap in the face to her fans to not just admit that. All of us mothers living a hectic life know that you don’t just get that skinny by nibbling off your kids’ plate. It’s by skipping meals, lots of meals and the definition of that is anorexia. I’m sure Tori loves her family very much, and I hope she gets the help that she needs.

Courtney on

She looks thin in photos because she is thin. And more than thin, she looks frail. I understand about being busy. I have 4 kids and travel 4 days a week and I have no nannies. A great husband but thats it. You can still find time to eat. I know that at dinner time I make 6 plates, 1 for each of us. Then I sit by my youngest(22 months) and help him learn how to master silverware..;). But by no means has my dinner ever consisted of a bite of hotdog, a broccoli floret and a french fry.

I hope she gains a little, because being underweight is just as bad as overweight.

Kids are cute in that pic too!

Katie on

My gosh people lay off her! I too lost a lot of weight after I had my second child. I eat, but chase my kids all day so it just stays off. She said she realizes she is thin, and it obviously is something she is working on.

Alice on

I understand that she is busy, but too busy to even eat? Her health is far more important than any work. I swear I think sometimes these celebrities like all the attention they get when they lose weight. Sad.

Nikki on

Look back to before Tori was pregnant and she was exceptionally thin then. She was pregnant for 2 years straight and never actually lost the baby weight from Liam before getting pregnant with Stella. She has always been thin and doesn’t seem to be too thin if you look at her in the past.

Wendy on

The kids are beautiful and I think Tori is under a lot of pressure being in the business she is in to look good all the time, although looking good does not equate to being so skeletal, someone tell her that curvy women are the new trend, bones are not attractive and people who get that thin must definitely have eating disorders, denial and cover ups are all part of the disorder – get some meat on those bones please Tori, lots of people are worried about you.

Anne on

The kids are just precious, and Stella is the spitting image of her daddy!

I agree though that Tori looks awful, not only how frail she looks but her make up job is awful and also makes her look terrible.
I have never thought she was a beautiful woman, but I saw her on 90210 last night and she looked pretty good there.

Sadie on

I have never understood people who say they don’t have time to eat because they have kids. I have never had a problem with fitting in time to eat, I sit down and eat a meal WITH the kids.

Why can’t the whole family sit down and eat together. I think it’s important to teach kids that everyone in the family counts, and that Mom and Dad deserve to have their basic needs (like eating) met too.

Stevie on

There is seriously no Tori in Stella…haha…she is all Dean. I guess she has blue eyes huh…I was wondering but these pics show them! Beautiful!

Alex on

I like Tori, I always have, but she does look way too thin. I think weight loss looks more severe on her than some people because of the breast implants and the fact that her facial features are quite pronounced. I’m not saying that’s a bad thing, I happen to think that Tori has beautiful eyes, but the combination of several factors probably makes her look skinnier at that weight than she might if she was another celebrity, for instance (if that makes sense). She looks lovely with a bit more weight on her, being skinny doesn’t suit Tori.

JMO on

I saw a video of this. I heard Liam is wearing shades because of the flashes of the lights from the camera. I couldn’t believe how many flashes went off. If I was Tori and Dean I’d be concerned about my children’s eyes! I am sure it’s fine but that baby just kept blinking like a deer caught in headlights!! I don’t know why they’d take them to HER book signing anyways I don’t believe the children have to go to everything. And Tori talks alot about keeping certain things private with her family but she always seems to exploit them as well.

The children though are adorable and I don’t mind seein them but looking at a picture is not the same as a video and now when I see all these kids in photos like this I can’t help but think that when they aren’t smiling it’s probably they’re completely traumatized by the lights and people screaming at them!!!!

Angi on

I love Tori. Everyone needs to lay off a bit. People gets so judgmental and have no idea what is really going on behind the scenes. Also, it should be noted that her mother is playing the “Pity me” card with the press. I am sure that is adding some stress to Tori’s life right now.

Marilyn on

I want to see Stella smile. I don’t think I’ve seen a photo of her smiling. She definately looks like Dean.

Sadie on

“Everyone needs to lay off a bit.”

No, we don’t need to lay off. We have a right to express our opinions too.

Katie on

Yes, everyone should lay off. Calling her anorexic and comparing her to someone in a third world country is absurd!

beatrice on

They look like a lovely family.
But all comments about anorexia aside, every time I see pictures of Tori I want to offer her a sandwich or a cookie or something.

JK on

Tori is look way too skinny…sorry..maybe it’s a bad pic but when your arm is the same size as your baby’s leg it’s time to seek counseling.

Val on

I love this family! It is obvious how much love they have for each other. I think everyone should take it easy on Tori. Have any of you seen 90210? She was always the thinnest cast member, and it was evident she was naturally thin. She has been pregnant almost back to back, so we are used to her looking a little heavier. I am sure she is taking care of herself, and I am sure Dean is seeing to that.Maybe she is on the thin side but,we have no idea what is going on in her life, so who are we to judge?

Sadie on

“It’s a slap in the face to her fans to not just admit that.”

It never ceases to amaze me the sense of entitlement some people have when it comes to celebrities. They do not owe us an explanation for anything that goes on in their private lives. If she does have a problem (and I don’t know if she does or not) then I think she owes it to herself and her children to admit to the problem and seek help. But she does not owe the rest of the world an explanation.

Christine on

Angi is right, you people DO need to lay off!!!!! You can have your opinions this is a website about babies… make your comments about the babies and how freaken adorable Liam and Stella are! Leave Tori alone!

lilly on

stella looks just like dean, and for tori, she does look very sickly. I know its not a nice thing to say, but she looks older and frail by being that skinny. Even though she has two kids, doesnt mean she cant sit down for 5 mins and eat something. Thats how you balance life with kids, u got to make time for yourself as well. Her kids will look at those pics one day and see her mother looks to skinny. Hollywood is very judgmental and if i were her id try to gain a few lbs, so ppl would stop talking about her.

robinepowell on

Now that I’ve seen a photo of just Tori and Stella, I’m more convinced then ever she looks like Dean, just like her two big brothers do.

bungalowbliss on

Would anybody make these comments if Tori’s weight were at the other extreme? “I’d sure like to snatch her plate away from her the next time she eats.” “She looks horrible, she really needs to lose some weight!” It amazes me that people think it’s okay to make such comments when someone is thin but whoa, no! Don’t you dare say anything about someone who’s overweight. Rude comments are rude comments–period.

Lorus on

“when your arm is the same size as your baby’s leg it’s time to seek counseling.”

I agree. I know plenty of mothers who have THREE or FOUR kids, jobs, and NO nannies yet find the time to eat. Yes, Tori is naturally thin but THIS isn’t her natural size. Add another 10lbs and she’s good.

I feel for the kids when parents bring them out on the carpets for paps pictures. It’s fine if you’re an adult and understand what’s going on but I’m sure it’s scary for little ones not to mention hurtful to their eyes.

marlee on

Hmmm… when I eat off of my kids plates I end up GAINING weight!

Candace on

After I had my 2nd baby I really worked hard to lose the weight and ended up losing 20 pounds past my pre-preg weight! It was like once my body got going….it didn’t know how to stop! It was something I had NEVER experienced before: Trying to STOP losing weight! It took awhile to find the balance of maintaining while still being a busy mom. I’ll bet that’s where she’s at. Cut her some slack!

Bancie1031 on

You know it kills me, if she didn’t take her kids it would be something along the lines of she had these kids now we never see them with her or where are Liam and Stella or must be nice to have a nanny so you don’t have to take care of your kids ……. WHATEVER.
Liam and Stella are just absolutely adorable!!!! Stella is getting to look more and more like Liam everytime I see her. She doesn’t seem quite like a little ham as Liam did at this age. I love this family, they are so freaking cute and adorable. Does anyone know if they are still doing their show?
Tori does look painfully thin! But I’m sure now that it’s been addressed she will make sure to correct it. She probably just didn’t realize how thin she looked/was getting because she has been so busy with everything going on plus taking care of two small children. I don’t believe that Tori intentionally got this skinny but it just kindof happened. Yes I’m sure people believe that she’s just making excuses but accidents and mistakes do happen, even though she is a celebrity she is still just a human being that isn’t perfect and makes mistakes and has accidents, just like everyone else.

Leah on

Wow…the kids are cute, but Tori, you look ill. What kind of example is that for Stella?

Bieta on

I don’t know why she feels to address her thiness it is her body. On top of that, her answer was kinda b.s. I work 70 hour weeks and have two step children. I don’t forget to eat, not to the point where I’m emaciated.

Karen on

Why does Liam have sunglasses on & not Stella? Those poor baby eyes being blasted by flashbulbs ;(

Cate on

She seems like an intelligent young Mom who is busy raising her children. She was always very thin and has been pregnant for the last couple of years. She also has a large head and I think that emphasizes her thinness.

Leila on

Ack, seriously, she does have a problem. Maybe it’s not done purposefully but she can’t think she looks good? Her head is too big to be that small. The proportions are all off. And that first picture, she looks like the Joker. Does she think that is attractive? She surely is NOT portraying the picture of health here.

Sadie on

“You know it kills me, if she didn’t take her kids it would be something along the lines of she had these kids now we never see them with her or where are Liam and Stella or must be nice to have a nanny so you don’t have to take care of your kids …….”

Tori is at a work event. I have never seen a mother on here being criticized for not taking her children to a red carpet (or similar kind of work event). So you’re just speculating that people would be upset. I agree with those who think the children should have been left alone. It’s not always best to take children everywhere. I remember reading an interview with Shania Twain where she said she doesn’t always keep her son with her backstage, because she doesn’t feel it’s a stimulating enough environment for a child and she would rather send him with his nanny to a museum or park. And I really respected her for that comment.

Lisa on

This will probably show my age, but looking at Tori reminds me so much of Karen Carpenter. Put your priorities in order and be a good role model to your children. I know it is hard juggling everything that comes with marriage, children, work, etc. but when life gets so busy you cant find the time to eat… its time to make some adjustments.
I’m sure the kids would give up everything material in order to have their mommy around for years to come. Her life seems like one big whirlwind, maybe its time to relax and take care of Tori for a while?

Jana on

If Tori doesn’t want comments about her weight being made, perhaps she should leave the spotlight for a bit, hmm? As long as she parade sher skinny self in the media, fans have the right to address her weight. It amazes me that Jennie Garth has three children and is nowhere near as skinny as Torrie. I think Jennie is comfortable in her own skin.

crimpe on

Stella is a sweet little deer in headlights. I LOVE Tori’s dress, too. Yes, her head appears large just as other lollipop actresses who have lost so much weight. I feel sad for Tori right now, with her every detail in the spotlight. However, she has also placed herself there. I don’t know if it is due to her being so thin, but that one implant looks quite different from the other. Hopefully these kids will be given the opportunity to grow and develop with a bit of privacy.

Heather on

Liam looks just like Aaron andStella looks just like Dean. Cute family. Not buying the I forget to eat thing. I think it really gives post partum women the wrong idea about what to expect of theirbodies. If she was gaining weight she’d have to acknowledge that she has an eating issue, so I don’t understand why she cannot do the same just b/c she is underweight. But who am I to judge? I really do not understand why this site, and others, give this family so much face time. They really don’t contribute anything to the entertainment business. Other than the reality show, when is the last time Dean has earned a job in the acting field?

Nicole on

Stella is just adorable and looks just like Dean. She is very different looking then Liam, I think she looks more like her half brother Jack. Dean is very handsome, and I have been a fan of Tori for years.

Kassandra on

Wow, I see her comments but her picture does not reflect it! I adore this family but I am soo worried Tori! I understand with being a mom its tough and eating whats left but there is something seriously wrong here. This picture here was just not her at all. I really love Tori and hope that what she is saying is true because I am thinking the way she looks is NOT healthy at all. Its a great photo of the kids though, there precious!

Terri on

Stella’s eyes do indeed looks blue now. Tori has always been very tiny. I wish people would stop speculating on her having an eating disorder. If she says no, then respect that.

JMO on

hmm I wasn’t going to comment on the weight thing but has anyone looked at Kelly Ripa? That girl is as thin as a tooth pick after three kids and at one point claimed she never worked out (but now I think she says she does). Anyways, I think Ms. Ripa looks far more sickly then Tori and Tori stated on the Today show that the rumors about anorexia are outrageous so I’d say if it’s true well it’s her demons she needs to fight, not ours.

Julia on

Stella looks like a baby body with Dean’s head in such a weird way, but I’m sure she will be beautiful

“It never ceases to amaze me the sense of entitlement some people have when it comes to celebrities. They do not owe us an explanation for anything that goes on in their private lives.”

I don’t necessarily agree with this statement. Celebrities depend on us to pay their bills. They want us to be interested in them when their latest movie, album or book comes out, but suddenly they want us to switch off the interest when it comes to their private lives. It doesn’t work that way. If you value your privacy there are plenty of other professions. You can’t have it both ways, either you want the attention or you don’t.

I could care less about Tori Spelling’s weight, but I did want to address this comment.

Angi on

When you call for a plumber, you pay him money. You invited him into you home. So, does that give you the right to ask about his personal life, since you are”paying his bills”?

Also, no one is forcing you watch movies, read celebrity magazines or watch their shows.

There is such a thing as free will, which allows you turn the channel.

Lis on

I think Chi Chi’s right.

Lis on

And Angi, I’m sorry, but that’s a silly argument…

pinkfluffgirl on

I love how people want to defend certain celebrities when it fits their mood. It’s the perils of being in the spotlight constantly, talking to the press constantly and writing books about your family. Don’t forget an ongoing public fued with your mother. Even through all that, I never have had issues with her..until now.
She goes to events looking that skinny…she clearly KNOWS how skinny she looks and is…or she wouldn’t bring it up and try to cover up saying she has kids to chase around. And she also threw in the eating disorder comment. Of course that is going to spark debate. She is spread too thin. Mothering is hard enough by ITSELF. She’s got books, a jewelry line, acting, a reality show…that is bound to take it’s toll WITH eating right. I have no idea if she’s still nursing or not, but that can take even more out of you. She has plenty of resources at her disposal to ensure she eats and has meals to eat on the go or after her children go to bed/nap. She looked fantastic after she had Stella. Thin but HEALTHY. You don’t lose that much weight, that quickly, without skipping many meals and neglecting yourself. She’s too thin. Everyone can see that. She’s lost so much weight that even her IMPLANTS look tiny now. The camera ADDS weight, it doesn’t make you smaller. The contradiction of “I eat healthy”…but I don’t always have time to sit down and eat a well balanced meal is blatant. If she can eat a broccoli floret and piece of hot dog, she could have made herself extra and sat down with the kids and eaten while they did. I would respect her more if she would SAY “I’m too skinny..I’ve let myself go lately and I’m re-prioritizing and going to be at my optimum health again.”

And I really wish they would have let the kids skip the red carpet or put sunglasses on Stella, too. I saw video of that red carpet walk and *I* nearly seized(I’m not epileptic)…I can only imagine what Stella saw and thought.

Kasee on

Calling her anorexic is not absurd, and “laying off” is how anorexic people get to weights like 90 lbs. I was anorexic and I denied it forever. I would say I was sick or just walked a lot (I went to a very large university)or I was naturally skinny (I’m 6’0 tall) but the other readers are right: you do not get to the level of skinny she is without trying on some level (even subconsciously). I’ve read about several girls on the new 90210 being way too thin and maybe being in their company gave Tori and skewed idea of how she looks.

Jeanine on

If shes too “fat” people complain, if shes too “thin” people complain.. shes never going to win.

her kids are adorable! they are such a great mix of the both of them.

Chi Chi on

“When you call for a plumber, you pay him money. You invited him into you home. So, does that give you the right to ask about his personal life, since you are”paying his bills”?

Also, no one is forcing you watch movies, read celebrity magazines or watch their shows.

There is such a thing as free will, which allows you turn the channel.”

The difference with a plumber is, you hire a plumber to fix your toilet or your sink. They are to do a certain job. They have every right to ask you if you flush paper towels down the toilet, because it pertains to their job. You couldn’t say, “That’s my toilet, it’s none of your business what I put in it!”

It’s the same with celebrities. She had a reality show for goodness sake. She obviously wanted attention from people when it was convenient for her. But now you don’t want attention because it’s going to be negative? Sorry, it doesn’t work that way. No one forces us to watch anything, but that’s not going to stop the paparazzi…the very same people Tori courts when she’s selling her latest book or reality show for a photo op. If you like the spotlight, you want the attention. Sometimes it’s good and sometimes it’s bad. You have to take both in the entertainment industry. It’s the price of being a celebrity.

Chi Chi on

I misread your plumber comment. It would give you the right to ask him/her what he was doing pertaining to his/her job, yes. In Tori’s case, with her being on a reality show, her job IS her life. She’s blurred the lines. Some people keep their family out of the public eye. She has talked publicly about having an affair with Dean, her relationship with her mother, other things. She made her personal life everyone’s business. These are the consequences.

Estella on

I have to ask, who honestly cares about reading about about how a rich person born with a silver spoon in her mouth raises her family. Are there people out that that really care? Are there people out there that have such mundane lives they would waste their time and money on such a book? I would much rather spend my valuable and precious time reading a book about a read person who is down to earth and has an interesting and compelling life in today’s economy dealing with real life issues. I could care less about celebrities.

Angi on

1: If you don’t care about celebs, why are you here?

2: Tori IS honest about her life, but the way some people judge is kind of mind blowing. I do wonder how those people would react if someone said really awful things about them. Just because someone lives their life in public does not make them less of a person.

Matt. 7:1 “Do not judge, or you too will be judged.”

Chi Chi on

If you notice I haven’t judged her. I haven’t said one thing about her weight one way or the other. But I don’t feel badly for her that people are judging her, because she opened herself up to it. The saying goes, “If you can’t take the heat, stay out of the kitchen.” If you can’t deal with people judging you, you’re not cut out to be a celebrity, so get out of the public eye.

I don’t believe in the Bible BTW.

Kasee on

I am not “judging” her. To judge her would be to call her cruel names like Bobblehead or Scarecrow. I just see someone who honestly looks like something is wrong and I hope that people don’t ignore the blatantly obvious for fear of being politically incorrect.

Catherine on

She can eat with them, there’s nothing wrong with eating with them! She is way too thin, and she needs to hand the kids off to Dean, if they are the actual cause(which I doubt it is)for her weight loss! I think Hollywood is pressuring her!

aww stella looks like her daddy!! Never really knew about tori and her family b4 as she’s not that big in the uk, but caught one of her programmes and I now love watching them. I think it’s a really sweet family who seem normal and very doting on their children. Good luck to them xxx
