Inside the Obamas' Easter Egg Roll!

Larry Downing/Reuters/Landov

The day after Easter Sunday, a long-standing tradition occurs in Washington, D.C.: The annual White House Easter Egg Roll! This year was the first egg roll for the Obama family, who celebrated with the Easter Bunny, singer Fergie and hundreds of local children. Check out our behind-the-scenes photos of Malia, 10 ½, Sasha, 7 ½ and parents Barack and Michelle Obama enjoying the spirit of the day!

Sasha wore Converse One Star for Target Lace-Up Oxfords in black ($20).

i’m not from the states, so maybe this is common knowledge there… can anyone go to the easter egg roll? or do you have to be invited? i think it’s so neat that they do that. some countries keep their politicians locked up and they’re treated like a demi-god or something. it’s nice that america keeps their leaders in a human perspective. (also, i love that the president’s daughter is wearing shoes that cost $20! so much better than some celeb kids decked out in $500 shoes!)

You do have to have invitations to go. You can’t just walk up to the white house and expect to participate. The tix for this event are a hot commodity each year. This year, in addition to giving tix to kids from the DC area, the White House set aside tix for children of gay and lesbian parents, children of kids whose parents are in the military, and children to represent each of the 50 states.

wow, looks like it was a great event this year. i think it made the occassion that much more special, because there are smaller children in the White House, so naturally the President and First Lady are in that frame of mind. Sasha and Malia seemed to be genuinely enjoying themselves. I love how open and accommodating the White House atmosphere is. nothing seems closed off.

You do not have to have invitations to go. You order tickets online. They are free. The White House does send out special invitations to the military, low income families, etc. I had to order mine online with the rest of the nation. It was hard to get them…due to heavy traffic on the web site. But I got 4 tixs and we had a great time!!

They did reserve a few tickets for certain groups, such as children of Gay & Lesbian families, military children, and a few other groups. The majority of tickets were available for the general public.
