Diana Krall's Happiness Radiates on New Album

There is a sharp delineation between pre-baby and post-baby life for songstress Diana Krall, and nowhere is that shift more evident than on her new album Quiet Nights. In music USA Today deems particularly intimate, Diana sings from her heart — a heart which doubled in size after welcoming twins Dexter Henry Lorcan and Frank Harlan James, 2, with husband Elvis Costello. “I’m just really happy,” she beams, adding:

“I didn’t have just [music] to focus on; I always looked forward to the end of the day, when I saw my kids. So the whole process was a joyful one, very natural, not at all self-conscious.”

Diana will embark on a tour to support Quiet Nights this summer, and as often as is possible the twins will be along for the ride. “I’m a stay-at-home mom as much as I can be,” Diana says, noting that the twins “started touring at 6 months old and were on a bus through Europe last summer.” When they’re not able to hit the road, Diana says the twins are in good hands. “It’s torture to leave them,” she admits, “but I know they’re with Elvis.”

It’s clear that the 44-year-old Grammy award-winner is relishing motherhood.

“I’m such a big kid myself. I’m a great meal planner; I get up and make pancakes and we all sit and talk. They love certain films and books; now they’re discovering dinosaurs. They’re just the most delightful beings.”

Dexter and Frank are the first children for the couple, who married in 2003. Quiet Nights is available now.

I love Elvis and am glad that his twins are so funny and cool – like the man himself! My hunch is that Elvis and Diana will have at least one more baby, another boy.
