Gwen Stefani Dishes On Zuma's 'Quirky' Name

Brian To/Film Magic

Ask Gwen Stefani what she’s been doing the last few years and her answer is an obvious one: “I’ve been making babies!” In a new interview with Detroit’s Mojo in the Morning, the mom of two says that her laid-back lifestyle since completing her last tour is about to head down a new path as she and her husband, singer Gavin Rossdale each gear up for their world tours.

Coincidentally the same age as his older brother when he traveled the world during Gwen’s Sweet Escape tour, 6-month-old Zuma Nesta Rock will be along for the ride and the proud mama is worry-free when it comes to her “sweet, chunky” baby boy. However, the same does not ring true for 2 ½-year-old Kingston James McGregor! “King has [a] really big opinion about what we do, so we’ll figure it out,” she shares. “We’ll pretty much be going to all the zoos and different places on our days off.” Although thrilled to take her boys with her, Gwen laughs that sometimes she finds herself longing for the old days!

“Some days I miss the old selfish touring days where you just sleep all day, but those days are gone. I just need to accept it!”

Planning the tour “on a whim” following being “cooped up” during her pregnancy, Gwen admits that she is yet to gain back her body before baby. Having gained “definitely way more than with Kingston,” the 39-year-old says that shedding the pounds has been “a million times harder” the second time around. “I had all these plans that I wasn’t going to get fat this time, but you don’t have control over it,” she explains. What’s Gwen’s secret to looking fabulous in the No Doubt promotional ads for the tour? Planning ahead!

“We shot that right when I got home [from my Sweet Escape tour] because I was like, ‘You know what, I’m going to get pregnant right now so you better take a picture of me. Capture this moment because I look good!”

Asked about her baby boy’s unusual moniker, Gwen references Zuma Beach, Calif., a location “really close to where we live.” Pressed further for an explanation, asking if Zuma was in fact conceived on the sandy shores, the songstress can’t help but laugh. “Yeah, we’re doing it on the public beach, dude. The paparazzi!”

According to Gwen, the idea actually came from fellow No Doubt member Tom Dumont, whose wife Mieke happened to be expecting a baby at the same time. In lieu of working on their record, Gwen laughs that the two were swapping name choices when the name Zuma popped up for Tom and Mieke. ”I kind of stole it from him…I didn’t steal it, I mean his wife didn’t want it,” she says. “It was just one of those things that just happened. I just wanted [Zuma] to have a little bit of a quirky name.” (For the record, Tom and Mieke chose Rio Atticus for their second son, now 9 months.)

Nicole Richie's Flirty Florals

Limelight

Dressed in a flowing floral maxi dress, Nicole Richie stepped out of the car as she arrived at the Eco-Mom Party, held Thursday night at a private residence in Los Angeles, Calif.

Currently expecting her second child, Nicole attended the event with partner Joel Madden, whom she recently described as “the best dad” to Glamour UK.

“When you’re parents you have to make every decision together, so you become a team. I can wholeheartedly say that he’s the best dad I have ever seen. He’s as good as my dad [singer Lionel Richie]. Him and my dad are really close. Joel is superdad.”

Burney Lamar Says Ciel is 'Absolutely Perfect'

George Holz for PEOPLE for use on CBB

All you have to do is listen to NASCAR driver Burney Lamar to hear how much he’s enjoying fatherhood, nine days after welcoming daughter Ciel! The new dad “love[s] everything about my daughter” — including the stinky bits! “I know you hear about some dads not changing diapers, but not me,” he says. “I am trying to just spend as much time with her and do everything I can right now — even the diapers!”

Burney, 28, also likes dressing his daughter. “Putting clothes on a couple day old child is the coolest thing!,” explains the proud papa. “She is so small and the clothes are so tiny. It is just amazing!” However, his favorite thing about his daughter is her scent.

“She smells so good. And, this is going to sound funny, but even her breath smells good when she cries. And her crying is the cutest thing ever. She makes the sweetest faces. She is absolutely perfect.”

Overall, Ciel is “a great baby. She sleeps well so far, only up two of the five nights. We actually have to wake her up to feed her,” says Burney, quickly clarifying that his wife, supermodel Niki Taylor, is the one on “night shift.”

Ciel is the first child for Burney and Niki, 34. Niki is also mom to 14-year-old identical twin sons Hunter and Jake.

Valco Universal Drink Holder

My son was born two miles from Starbucks’ headquarters in a land where grocery carts have cup holders installed, so it’s a mystery to me why some strollers come without one. Valco Baby has solved that problem with its Universal Drink Holder ($10-15) that fastens to almost any stroller. It has four flexible spokes inside so it holds nearly any shape bottle or cup, and the angle adjusts so it’s always upright.

Brady Wilkerson's First Birthday Fun!

Update: Melissa answered a few of your questions from the comment section:

“Hi there,

I’ve worked for the Disney company for over 13 years. My show [Sabrina the Teenage Witch] was on ABC, I’ve done two TV movies for ABC Family (My Fake Fiancé airs April 19th), and they also aired Tying the Knot [my wedding series]. So they take good care of me and my family — but we do trade pictures for park passes. They get us a wonderful tour guide to help make our day amazing and we get to skip lines which is incredible. The characters came out to see us, but they were inside at the Minnie Mouse breakfast with all the guests that were in the restaurant. However, like some of you have said, they treat all guests — and especially birthday guests — very special.

Brady’s look on his face cracks me up because it’s bordering on crying and laughing. He is unsure at that moment what he is feeling. So funny!

[As for the other questions,] yes, I changed my hair and cut some awful bangs that are just starting to look decent. They look weird in the pics because I had my “ears” on and Brady pulled them off! My necklace was a gift from a friend from Bellies N Babies.

Thanks and love,

Melissa”

Candace Parker: 'Everything Happens For a Reason'

Courtesy ESPN for use on CBB

Although her pregnancy was unplanned, Candace Parker is a big believer in fate. “I was surprised,” the 22-year-old Los Angeles Sparks forward admits in a cover story for the latest issue of ESPN The Magazine. “But everything happens for a reason.”

What’s more, Candace says that she’s looking forward to integrating baby-on-the-way — reportedly due in May — into her life as an international basketball star. “It will be exciting to have my child share my career,” she explains, “and to remember what I was like when I was young.”

Softly proclaiming that she’s “not worried” about impending motherhood, Candace notes that she has nieces and nephews who have helped prepare her for what lies ahead. “Of course, [husband] Shel[den Williams] and I joke that we can’t send this one home,” she adds. The couple never wavered on how they would handle the pregnancy, however. Says Candace,

“I knew my decision. I knew people would have positive and negative reactions to it. But I’ve been a people-pleaser my whole life. I needed to get over that.”

Still, there are contracts to uphold and endorsements to keep; To that end, Candace says she intends to return to the court as little as two months after her due date. She’ll try to avoid a C-section at all costs while trying to prove her detractors wrong. “I’m stubborn,” she says. “I’ve been through knee, ankle, shoulder injuries…I feed off of doubt, people telling me I won’t be able to come back. We’ll see about that.” Basketball has a calming influence on Candace, so a speedy return to action is something she says she wants.

“The baby will be along for the ride, with me on trips, at the court. You don’t hear about male players doing that, do you? Women, we just have to balance more things. It’s harder for us. That’s just the way it is. For now.”

Baby-on-the-way will be the first for Candace and Shelden, a forward with the Minnesota Timberwolves. The couple were married in November.
