Mary Lynn Rajskub Says There's No Planning For Parenthood

Elizabeth Messina for PEOPLE for use on CBB

Among the many perks of a celebrity pregnancy are the gift baskets filled with goodies received by the expecting mama. While the presents usually come in handy, Mary Lynn Rajskub admits that, in her case, she could have done without a few!

With a bundle of products coming in after she announced her pregnancy, there was one item in particular that left the then mama-to-be a bit frazzled: her baby kicks counter. “So the kick counter’s like, ‘Did you get this many kicks per hour?’ And you start trying to count the kicks and then you freak out because the baby’s not moving, and you’re like, ‘He didn’t kick enough!” she explains.

“So I’m like, you know what,  I don’t wanna count the kicks. I’m stressed.”

Understanding that during pregnancy “all these things could happen or none of them might happen,” Mary Lynn has adopted the same philosophy in her approach to motherhood. Since welcoming her 7-month-old son Valentine Anthony with her boyfriend Matthew Rolph, the new mom realizes that the journey of parenthood “is everybody’s unique process, so I don’t really see how you can plan for it or expect anything,” she shares. “You have to figure it out while you’re doing it.”

One thing Mary Lynn already knows is not for her are mommy-and-me classes! After coming across an online list which invited new moms to spend time sharing their experiences thus far, the 37-year-old’s first thought was “Oh, I should do that.” However, in addition to not having “the lifestyle for it,” the 24 actress admits she already feels the added pressure.

“I mean, I could probably show up to random meetings from time to time. But it’s like, ‘Lifetime friendships are formed! Sign up for eight weeks!’ And I’m like, ‘I can’t commit to that. It’s supposed to not be stressful, but I would be too worried about showing up or bringing the cupcakes.”

Portia de Rossi Puts a Positive Spin on Pregnancy Rumors

Lester Cohen/WireImage

Fans of Ellen DeGeneres, 51, and Portia de Rossi who are breathlessly awaiting a pregnancy announcement can exhale! In a new interview with the LA Times, Portia muses that although motherhood would be “amazing and exciting and wonderful,” it is nonetheless a state of being she “definitely” won’t be experiencing “in the near future.”

“It isn’t really something that’s on the immediate horizon for us.”

The couple — married in August 2008 – were recently the subject of baby whispers after reports surfaced that Portia, 36, was undergoing IVF. “How [the] rumor started, I really have no idea,” she says. And while the stories were ultimately untrue, they weren’t exactly unwelcome. “It’s great that Ellen and I are a gay couple and people are open-minded enough to talk about us having a family,” Portia explains.

“I feel like we kind of get all the same stuff that any heterosexual couple would get in the public eye. And that is great, that is wonderful — including the baby bump.”

In denying that there is a baby-on-the-way, Portia adds that she’s hoping to avoid the embarrassing scenario all actresses dread. ”I just don’t want those horrible pictures in magazines where they circle your stomach and point and go ‘baby bump,’” she admits.

Portia’s new series Better Off Ted debuts Wednesday on ABC at 8:30 p.m.

Julia Roberts Dishes on Her 'Sunny Existence'

Steve Jennings/WireImage

As she publicly promotes her new film Duplicity, Julia Roberts can barely conceal her private happiness.”I think of my life as a pretty sunny existence,” the Academy Award-winning actress tells the LA Times. So sunny, in fact, she says that she can no longer convincingly play characters who are looking for love. “It just doesn’t work for me at 41, with three kids and happily married…It doesn’t hold the same interest that it did for me once upon a time.” The family of which she speaks – husband Danny Moder and the couple’s 4-year-old twins Hazel Patricia and Phinnaeus ‘Finn’ Walter along with 20-month-old Henry Daniel – were nearby while Julia conducted the interview, and she wouldn’t have it any other way.

“We move as this pack. This morning Danny got them ready while I got me ready. Load them up in the car, and here we come.”

Signing on to the film — her first headlining role since 2003 — was something Julia initially declined, because she was pregnant at the time with Henry. She reconsidered after his birth and says that the shoot was baby-friendly, with breaks built-in every 2 ½ hours for breastfeeding. “It was like being Swedish,” she explains. “You felt like the mother is so completely supported in her motherness.” That she got to share the screen with her former Closer co-star Clive Owen was also a big motivator; Watching the 44-year-old actor spend time with his wife Sarah-Jane Fenton and their daughters Hannah and Eve convinced Julia that they are of like mind.

“I looked at the four of them, and thought, ‘That is an impenetrable club. They are four people moving together in this whole world. It was so touching to me, the way their four heads moved together. That’s how I feel about my family.”
