Prop Departments Working Overtime Hiding Prime Time Bumps

Theo Wargo/WireImage

There is no shortage of pregnant stars gracing the small screen at the moment, but television viewers would be hard-pressed to spot a bump. That’s because the vast majority of characters being portrayed by celebrity moms-to-be have not been written as moms-to-be! “Blue scrubs and lab coats hide quite a lot,” ER star Parminder Nagra, expecting a baby in late spring, tells Access Hollywood. “I actually have a pair of my own custom made maternity scrubs courtesy of our wonderful wardrobe department made with stretchy fabric to fit round the bump…The guys at ER have been extremely supportive,” she adds.

Ugly Betty actress Ana Ortiz, expecting a daughter in July, has had a similar experience. “What’s amazing to me is to see these huge guys who are part of the crew for the show, turn into big teddy bears,” she notes.

“They take such good care of me. Who knew? Chivalry is not dead after all, at least not on the Ugly Betty set. The subway is a different story.”

Unlike Parminder, Ana won’t have the attire of a surgeon to hide behind! “It’s not going to be easy,” she admits. “Hilda Suarez is not one for the baggy look. She’ll probably be standing behind her salon chair a lot.” Grey’s Anatomy star Chyler Leigh will make the most of her role as a doctor on the hit ABC show, however. Due May 15th with daughter Aniston Kay, Chyler says that since hitting the six month mark she’s “totally showing” and scrubs are no longer “cutting it” in the ongoing effort to conceal her bump.

“You’ll begin to see me carrying various medical items (charts, notepads, etc.) more often…I keep wondering when the transition from carrying charts to pushing wheelchairs to pushing gurneys to close up face shots in the [operating room] will happen. I guess the positive is, I’ll have really buff arms from all the carrying and pushing of random medical equipment.”

Julia Roberts On Mixing Motherhood With Movie Making

Kevin Winter/Getty

Sitting down for countless interviews as she makes her way through the promotional tour for her movie Duplicity, Julia Roberts has heard the whispers that refer to her new role as her sexiest yet. The 41-year-old actress, however, brushes off the compliments and jokes that the praise is all based on her temporary assets — a result of breastfeeding her son, Henry Daniel, now 21 months. “That’s just because my boobs are so big in it,” she laughs.

That said, Julia is full of pride when it comes to the work — both onscreen and off — she put into the film. With her three kids on hand, she explains that her success in balancing her loves of life has given her much to be proud of. “To make a movie as a mother of three children under 3? That’s an accomplishment I’m proud of,” she reveals to Entertainment Weekly. Fortunately for the busy mama, twins Hazel Patricia and Phinnaeus ‘Finn’ Walter, 4, along with their little brother Henry, had no problems adapting to their environment!

“They were in the trailer, hanging out, reading books, jumping on the one bed they’re allowed to jump on, Henry’s taking naps.”

Opening up about her good-looking brood, a proud Julia gushes that her son Finn is a true “dreamboat.” Taking after his father Danny Moder — “green eyes and red hair” — Julia shares that her little boy has the “exact color hair” her husband sported as a child. As for Hazel and Henry, they are two of a kind! “[They] both have platinum hair and blue eyes,” she says.

Duplicity is in theaters Friday.

Jaime Pressly Dishes on Potty Training Dezi

Vince Flores/ Celebrity Photo

The Spelling-McDermott‘s aren’t the only ones in the potty training trenches! During a Wednesday appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! actress Jaime Pressly revealed that her own 22-month-old son Dezi James is ready to shed his diapers in favor of some Pull-Ups! In fact, it was the little man himself who decided the time had come after seeing a neighborhood pal named Ava – described as Dezi’s “little girlfriend” — using his potty chair. “It lights up and plays music,” Jaime explained, “and it has a toilet paper roller that when you roll it, it goes ‘good job!’”

Armed with new-found motivation, Jaime says that Dezi soon began asking to use the chair, himself. “So yesterday morning I put Pull-Ups on him and he realized those were the same things Ava wore, and he ran straight to the potty chair, sat down, and went ‘Mommy…potty…yay!’” Jaime recalled. “I went, ‘Good job’…And then I realized there was no music [coming from the chair].” She added with a laugh,

“So he stands up and – pants still down — goes ‘potty…yay!’ as he pees on the floor beside the potty chair.”

Dezi is the first child for Jaime and her ex-fiancé Eric Calvo, aka DJ Eric Cubiche.

Michael J. Fox On Facing Parkinson's With His Family

Michael Loccisano/FilmMagic

Since being diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in 1991, at times Michael J. Fox finds himself considering the toll his health has taken on his family. However, all it takes is an outsider to ask how he is coping with his life to put things back into perspective for the actor. “I think, cope?! It’s really hard to even think that way,” he admits in April’s issue of Good Housekeeping. “Sometimes I’ll stop and think, ‘Am I selling short the experience my family is having?’ But then I’ll look back at it and say no — they’re having fun.”

Melting away his initial worries is the fact that, according to Michael, his kids – Sam Michael, 19, twins Aquinnah Kathleen and Schuyler Frances, 14 and Esmé Annabelle, 7 — have willingly stepped up to the plate when needed most. “And you know, with Parkinson’s, my kids just make that transition,” he explains. “If I’m reaching for something, they’ll just do it and carry on.” While there is no argument that the family has faced its share of hard times, the father of four says his kids have managed to come away from the experience with a sense of maturity and wisdom, which, most likely, would never have been addressed. “[My kids have learned] empathy, resilience, and also sorting out what’s important from what’s not — things like vanity,” he shares.

That being said, Michael believes the teaching has become a two-way street. Realizing that there is “not one moment that is frozen in time,” the 47-year-old’s outlook on life has him savoring each second with his kids. According to Michael, the same goes for his illness. “I’m not feeling particularly steady right now, but this is not going to last for more than a couple of minutes,” he explains. “Same with raising kids. There are no moments you have frozen in amber. It’s moving, it’s changing, so appreciate what’s good about right now and be ready for what’s next.” His parenting advice? Choose your battles carefully!

“I remember my son wanted to go to bed with his cowboy boots on, and we had this fight for like an hour. Then I realized that the only good reason I had for him not to do it is because I didn’t want him to. There was really no other reason. And finally I said, ‘Okay, fine.’ It was a great victory for me because I realized it doesn’t really matter.”

More on the family’s favorite pastime and Michael’s determination to have a big brood below.
